a fight for the maiden's heart (when we met)
pairing: king erwin smith x marleyan princess reader x knight levi ackerman
summary: after a century long war, the biggest feud in history came to a stop. eldia and marley, the two nations that hated each others guts more than anything. the war having strained both nations economically, resulting in famine, resource shortages, and the devastating cost of war, decided that they cannot sustain the war without total collapse. the two decided on a peace treaty and trade relations..... but that also included a particular princess to be involved.
note: hello 🦋!! I love that you gave yourself an emoji, hope to see more of you soon
the afternoon sun slanted through the tall windows of the council chamber, turning the piles of parchment and ink into golden monuments of duty. erwin sat still at the head of the long table, eyes scanning reports but mind clearly elsewhere. his coat hung over the back of his chair, sleeves rolled up to his forearms, the room silent but for the scratch of his quill.
Miche stood by the window, arms folded, staring down into the palace gardens.
"shes out there again," he said softly.
erwin didnt look up. "she finds peace there."
miche's gaze lingered on the solitary figure below, the marleyan princess moving gently between the blossoms, fingers brushing across petals as if memorizing them. her posture was graceful, but there was a tension in her shoulders, the kind carried by those who never quite belonged. a child from the servant quarters ran by and tripped near her. without hesitation, (name) knelt, dusting them off, and smiled. no pomp, no performance. Just kindness.
levi stood at a distance beneath a tree, arms crossed, ever watchful.
miche turned from the window.
"why did you do it?" he asked.
erwin paused, quill hovering mid-word. the ink began to pool.
marley, months ago
the marleyan court was cold and colorless, all sharp lines and suspicious eyes. erwin stood beneath the high ceiling of the embassy hall, cloaked in formality and guarded words.
(name) was introduced as a gesture of peace. draped in traditional marleyan silk, chin lifted with practiced grace, she bowed. a perfect performance. but her eyes...
they werent cold. they werent empty. they were watching him.
later, as the court moved around him in murmurs and sideways glances, erwin found himself near a neglected corner of the hall, where a frail, aging servant fumbled with a tray and was nearly trampled by a passing noble. no one noticed.
except her.
she stepped in without hesitation, helping fhe man steady himself, speaking in hushed, gentle tones. she stayed longer than necessary, making sure he was truly alright. no one else had spared him a second glance.
erwin hadn't looked away once.
that night, he sat at his temporary quarters in marley, maps sprawled out before him, negotiations weighing heavy on his shoulders. but his eyes werent on the borders or the fleets. they were on the small strap of paper with her name.
"a princess," he murmured, as though trying to convince himseld she was just that. but all he could see was a quiet soul trying to survive in a place that would never truly welcome her.
like him. like his people. like every dream hed chased behind stone walls.
---
miche's voice broke the silence again. "you knew what this would mean to her."
erwin leaned back un his chair, exhaling slowly. "i did."
"and still...."
miche looked out the window once more.
"so why do I get the feeling it wasnt just about peace?"
for a long moment, erwin said nothing. the sunlight had shifted, casting the council chamber in a softer, almost melancholic glow.
then, quietly, he replied...
"because it wasnt."
erwin remained seated, hands folded before him now, his eyes no longer seeing the parchment in front of him.
"she wasnt what I expected," he said softly, as though confessing something he hadn't even told himself before. "the marleyan court wanted her to be a symbol. obedient, polished, easy to use. but she was..."
he stopped, searching for the right word.
"human," miche offered, his voice low but understanding.
erwin gave a small nod. "yes. painfully so."
a breeze stirred the edges of the documents on the table. dust caught the light like flecks of gold.
"she reminded me of what we are behind all of this," erwin continued, motioning vaguely fo the scrolls, the armor, the titles, "people trying to protect our own in places that don't want us to exist."
Miche's brow furrowed. "you saw yourself in her."
"I did," erwin admitted. "and i knew that bringing her here would make her a target. that she'd be walking to unfamiliar halls filled with people who'd rather forget she even exists."
his eyes shifted back to the gardens. (name) was crouched by a bed of roses, one hand tracing the bloom of a white-petaled flower.
"but i also thought...." he trailed off, jaw tightening.
miche turned to him again. "you thought she could survive it "
a beat.
"no," erwin said, gaze sharpening. "i thought she'd change it."
miche leaned back against the stone frame of the window, arms crossed again. "you always bet on people who shouldn't win."
erwins mouth quirked slightly, not quiet a smile. "its worked out. so far."
"barely."
they fell into a companionable silence, the kind forged by decades of shared burdens and words unspoken. outside, (name) moved to the fountain, cupping water in her hands, releasing it in ripples. levi shifted a step closer but didn't interfere.
miche watched erwin carefully. "is it just her you saw in that court, or was it the war you didnt want to fight?"
erwin glanced sideways at him. "i wanted to end on our terms."
"but not like this?"
"no," he said quietly. "not like this."
another pause. miche's eyes narrowed slightly. "then what was she? a tactic? a shield?"
erwin closed his eyes for a moment, as if trying to sort through the tangle of logic and instinct that had led him here.
"she was... the first thing I saw in that palace that wasnt calculated cruelty," he said. "she reminded me that even in places like marley, there are people who can see others. who want to see others."
"and so you brought her here," miche said.
erwin nodded.
"to this lions den."
erwins gaze didn't waver. "because she's stronger than they think. and because if we are to make a future out of this rubble, it should begin with someone who still remembers what kindness looks like."
miche turned back to the gardens, watching the way levi lingered just out of touch.
"she might not thank you for it," he murmured.
"im not expecting thanks," erwin replied. "just change."
---
down in the garden, the world felt quieter.
the wind whispered through the hedges, the scent of blooming jasmine and crushed grass curling into the air. (name) let her fingers skim the rim of the stone fountain, cool water trickling over her skin.
it was strange, how a place so beautiful could still feel like a gilded cage.
eyes were always on her here, even when she couldn't see them. behind curtained windows. around garden corners. inside guarded glances. no matter how softly she walked, she felt the tremble in the ground left by the things they feared she might do.
(names) reflection in the water rippled as she dipped her hand again, watching the distortion of her own face blur and twist. sometimes, she didnt recognize the woman staring back.
a faint crunch of gravel drew her attention. she didnt look up, didnt have to.
levi.
he lingered a few steps behind, quiet as a shadow, but constant. she'd grown used to the weight of his eyes. like iron, not unkind, but solid and unmoving. he didnt speak much, didn't trust her yet. but he didnt hate her either.
not like nile did.
(name) shifted to sit on the fountain edge, watching a bee drift lazily from blossom to blossom. in marley, moments like this were rare. peace was always a performance. but here, she found odd pockets of it. the gardens, the morning light in the eastern corridor, the stable girl who let her feed the horses without speaking.
and... erwin.
she didnt understand him. not really. he was too careful with his words, too good at hiding meaning in kindness. but when he looked at her, it was never the way others did. not with suspicion. not with pity. he looked at her like she was real. like he saw something in her that she wasn't sure still existed.
(name) wasnt sure if that made him cruel.... or hopeful.
and maybe it didn't matter.
her gaze drifted up to the council chamber windows. she couldnt see him through the glass, but somehow, she knew he was watching.
she didnt speak when levi approached, just tilted her head slightly, acknowledging him without turning. he stopped a few feet away, as always. close enough to intervene if he had to. far enough to keep his distance.
for a long while, he said nothing. Just stood there with his hands in his pockets, eyes scanning the garden like it was enemy territory. she let the silence between them, warm and unthreatening.
then, finally,
"you always come here alone."
(name) glanced at him. his tone wasnt accusing. Just... observing.
"its the only place that doesnt ask anything of me," she murmured.
levi looked at her then, not just glanced, but really looked. his eyes were sharp, unreadable.
"they still watch you," he said.
"I know."
"they wait for you to mess up."
"I know that too."
she smiled faintly, not bitter, just tired. levi stepped closer, just a little, his boots crunching against the stone path.
"you havent," he said quietly.
that surprised her. her head turned toward him, brows lifting. "what?"
"you havent messed up."
she blinked. no one had said that to her since she arrived. maybe not ever.
there was a long pause between them. the garden rustled with wind and birdsong.
"im not here to make enemies," (name) said softly.
levi nodded once. "good. because you have enough already."
she huffed a breath of laughter, small, dry, but genuine. "including you?"
levi's mouth twitched. Just a fraction.
"ask me again in a week."
she turned her eyes back to the fountain, and for a moment, he didnt move.
but then...
he sat down beside her.
not close. not touching. but closer than he ever had before.
the silence returned, but this time, it felt different.

note: hiiii! sorry it took me months! I actually love this story sm and Ive actually always been more of an erwin girl :P but I will try not to let my bias show
The air was crisp, tinted with dew and the scent of budding jasmine. The soft shuffle of feet on the stone path broke the stillness as (name) made her way through the gardens, arms wrapped loosely around herself for warmth. She wasn't alone long.
"Couldn't sleep either, your highness?" Came the familiar voice, warm and slightly gruff.
Pixis stood with his hands behind his back, eyes on the horizon where the sun was just beginning to rise, a flask in his other hand. There was no formality in his tone, no rehearsed stiffness, only a quiet familiarity.
"I've stopped correcting you when you call me that," she said lightly, a ghost of a smile tugging at her lips as she moved to stand beside him.
"You have. Progress," he chuckled, offering her the flask. "It's not royal wine, but it'll keep the chill away."
She accepted it, taking a sip and wincing. "Bitter."
"I didn't say it was good," pixis grinned, then sat down on a nearby bench with a dramatic sigh like he'd just fought in a war. "You'd think after thirty years id stop waking up with the sun, but here we are."
(Name) sat next to him, close enough for comfort but not quiet touching. "It's quieter up here. Easier to think."
"And what are we thinking about this morning?" He asked, though his tone was more inviting than probing.
There was a pause. "I keep wondering if I belong here," she said finally. "Not just... as part of the treaty. As a person. As myself."
Pixis didn't respond immediately. He just hummed, nodding thoughtfully as he gazed out over the gardens. "It's a strange thing, isn't it? Belonging. Some of the people in this palace have lived here their whole lives and still don't feel like they do."
She looked at him then, surprised by the simplicity of the wisdom. "Do you?"
"I feel like I've made enough peace with myself that it doesn't matter much anymore," he said with a shrug. "But you... you're still building that. You're doing fine."
A small silence settled between them. Comfortable. Companionable.
(Name) looked down at the flask in her hands, then back at the older man. "Youre not like the others," she said softly.
Pixis raised a brow. "I'm older. Which means I had more time to make mistakes."
She smiled at that. A real one. Not the kind she wore for the court.
He gave her a pat on the shoulder as he stood. "Come on, let us take a walk."
The soft hum of the sea below was a distant lull, waves cresting gently against the rocky shore. Morning mist still clung to the horizon, veiling the Marleyan port in a ghostly haze. From the edges of the cliffs, one could make out the tall masts of ships swaying, the banners too far to read, but familiar all the same.
(Name) stood there quietly, fingers resting on the cool stone of the ledge. Pixis stood beside her, arms tucked behind his back, watching the same view.
"You miss it," he said, not unkindly.
Her breath caught slightly. "Not marley. Just... the parts of me that came from there. Even if they never truly belonged to it."
Pixis tilted his head toward her. "Thats an important distinction. And a rare one."
She turned her gaze to the sea again, eyes scanning the docks as if trying to recognize something... or someone. "sometimes I wonder what my life would've been like if I'd never come here. if I'd married a marleyan noble. if i'd stay quite and play the part."
pixis chuckled. "you don't strike me as someone meant for quiet roles."
she smiled faintly. "maybe not anymore."
the wind picked up slightly, tugging strands of her hair across her face. she didn't brush them away. "do you think... they hate me? the people here?"
pixis didn't answer immediately. instead, he pulled a flask from his coat again, offering it wordlessly.
she took it again, no complaint about the bitterness. it grounded her. reminded her that she was still standing here. still breathing.
"they don't know you," he finally said. "sometimes it will take longer than others to see past what you represent. but every time you walk through the halls, speak with someone, laugh, ask a question, stay up too late in the gardens," a knowing glance "you chip away at what they thought you were."
her grip tightened around the flask. "and if they never see past it?"
"then you keep living. keep trying. not for them. but for you." he looked at her, smile softening. "and for those who do see it."
(name) nodded, the wind brushing past her again. somewhere in the distance, a gull cried out and dipped low over the water.
"i think I needed to hear that," she said quietly.
pixis just grunted, taking the flask back. "course you did. thats why I said it."
"i don't know here I belong," she kept her eyes fixed on the sea, her voice fragile but honest.
pixis didn't interrupt. he only took a slow sip from his flask, eyes forward, listening.
"i was born in marley. raised in those gilded halls, watched like a pet behind palace windows. I was dressed like a princess, taught to act like one, but it never felt like it meant anything." her voice wavered for a breath. "i hated it. the rules. the silence. the lies. the things they told us about you, about eldians. about paradis."
her hand rested on her chest now, fingers curled as if steadying something inside.
"and yet.... even after everything, marley is my home. its where my people are. the maids who helped raise me. the gardens i used to hide in. the air. the food. the songs the kitchen women would hum when they thought no one was listening."
she glanced at him now, face caught between shame and defiance.
"being here... being part of all this... sometimes it feels like im betraying them. that im only pretending to belong, pretending to care. and if I do care, if I choose this kingdom and this crown, then what does that make me?" her jaw tightened. "a traitor to them? or a fool to you?"
pixis let the silence sit, heavy and thoughtful, before he replied.
"you want the truth?"
she nodded.
"you're neither," he turned his gaze to her now, steady and grounded. "you're someone trying to survive... and trying to do it with dignity."
he gestured towards the sea, to the ships drifting in the harbor below.
"those waters dont belong to anyone. but everyone wants to claim them. thats how the world works. they carve lines through land, through people. but you... youre not a line. you're a bridge, if you let yourself be."
her breath caught in her throat.
"you dont have to stop being marleyan," he said. "and you dont have to prove anything to anyone by trying to become something you're not. but if you care about this place... if you care about them," a subtle nod towards the palace behind them, "then your loyalty will show in your actions."
she looked back out towards the sea, to the hazy port that once felt like a cage and now felt like a memory.
"I dont know if i can be what they want me to be..." (name) whispered.
pixis smiled, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "good. because what they want doesnt matter. what you choose to be... thats the part that will last."
port of Sina - late morning
the harbor bustle below with clinking chains, murmuring sailors, and the occasional squawk of gulls overhead. from the dock, Nile dok stood with his arms crossed, his eyes fixed not on the ships but on the cliffs above... where two small figures stood against the horizon.
"is that pixis?" rico asked, squinting into the sunlight. "and the marleyan girl?"
Nile didnt answer immediately. his jaw tightened.
ricn continued, almost absent-mindedly, "they've been up there for a while."
"she shouldnt be up there alone with him," nile muttered. "she shouldnt be here at all."
rico shot him a sidelong glance. "youre still on that?"
"shes marleyan," he said coldly. "and now shes playing confidant to one of our highest-ranking commanders. who knows what shes saying."
rico raised an eyebrow but kept her voice even. "pixis is more than capable of handling himself."
Nile didnt respond. his gaze was sharp, accusatory. as if just the image of (name), her form barely visible beside pixis, was offensive. "i dont care how many smiles she earns or how many of our people she charms. shes not one of us."
rico exhales through her nose, not annoyed... just tired.
"she will be. whether you like it or not."
Nile turns to her sharply, but rico didnt flinch. she adjusted her gloves and stepped past him towards the waiting guards.
"I dont care where she comes from," she added over her shoulder. "so long as she does what's best for the kingdom."
that left Nile standing alone at the edge of the dock, arms crossed tighter, eyes narrowing on the cliff above.
the breeze carried the scent of salt and seaweed as (name) rested her arms on the stone railing, eyes trailing the horizon. below, the port buzzed with activity, but up there it was calm... removed. safe, in a way that felt fleeting.
pixis stood beside her, hands tucked behind his back, the lines around his eyes crinkled with thought rather than mirth.
"theyre watching," (name) said, quietly.
pixis gave a small nod, as if hed been expecting her to say that.
"mhm. always are."
she didnt look at him. "not just the people. the council. Nile. maybe rico too."
pixis hummed, low in his throat. "Nile... well. hes a man built on history. he doesnt trust easy. especially not when it comes to leave paid with a ring."
she didnt flinch, but something in her shoulders tensed.
"and rico?" (name) asked.
"she trusts what works," he said simply. "if you prove yourself valuable, not as a princess but as a person, she'll stand behind you. If not... she'll be the first to say so."
(name) was quiet for a moment, staring at the distant outline of ships docked in the marleyan port. "i dont think ill ever be enough for them."
pixis didn't interrupt her.
"I grew up in marley. I know what they did. what they think. but I still... I can't change that part of me off. I dont even know if I should. does marrying your king mean my loyalty belongs here now? does it erase where I came from?"
there was a beat of silence before pixis responded.
"no," he said gently. "it doesn't erase anything."
she looked at him, finally and he was already watching her, with the same patient, fatherly look he always seemed to wear when the world was too cruel for someone so young.
"you dont have to cut marley out of you to belong here," he said. "you just have to be willing to stand for something greater than either nation. thats what erwin sees in you."
she blinked at that, caught off guard. "he hasn't said that."
"he wouldnt," pixis chuckled. "but I've known the man long enough to read the spaces between his silences."
the wind picked up slightly, brushing a stand of her hair into her face. she tucked it behind her ear, not realizing her eyes had started to sting.
"you may never win them all over," pixis added, voice quieter now. "but some of us... are already watching for the right reasons."
(name) smiled, small and sad, and turned her gaze back out to the sea.
the sun was beginning it's climb higher, casting golden light across the courtyard. the clash of blades dangling in the air as knights-in-training practiced under the supervision of senior guards. dust kicked up with every step and strike, turning the whole place into a blur of movement and noise.
(name) walked through the far edge, wrapped in her own thoughts. she wasnt trying to hide her emotions, not really, but she was quiet... distant in a way that made her look like she didn't quiet belong to the space around her.
levi stood near the barracks wall, arms folded, eyes lazily watching a pair of trainees sparring with wooden swords. his attention shifted subtly when he caught sight of her moving past, expression unreadable as always. he said nothing at first. but as she passes by, he pushed off the wall and fell into steps beside her, not close, not invasive, just... there.
"you look like you had a talk with someone who actually made sense," he said casually.
(name) glanced at him, surprised, then gave a faint smile. "pixis."
"mhm..." levi nodded. "that explains it."
they walked in silence a few more steps. the noise of the courtyard faded slightly as they moved towards the archway that led back into the palace.
"you always this quiet after a revelation?" he asked.
she hesitated. "i dont know how to carry it yet. what i feel, what i want. i still dont know what side of the line im suppose to stand on."
levi slowed slightly, eyeing her from the corner of his gaze. "and you think it's a line?"
(name) blinked. "isnt it?"
he shrugged. "people who pick sides usually forget theyre standing on people to do it."
that made her pause.
they stopped just before the doors to the palace. she looked at him, really looked, and saw for the first time a flicker of something in levi's eyes that wasnt cold or suspicious, just understanding. quiet recognition.
"I dont know where I belong yet," she admitted.
"you'll figure it out," he said. "youre not as clueless as you look."
a breath of laughter escaped her lips... light, surprised, genuine. levi almost smirked, then gave a small nod and turned back towards the courtyard.
"go inside," he said over his shoulder. "you smell like the sea."
(name) stepped in through the tall wooden doors, the coolness of the stone walls immediately wrapping around her after the warmth outside. she took a breath and leaned against one of the pillars, still thinking about levi's words.
"rough morning?"
she turned to see nanaba walking towards her, carrying a stack od freshly written ledgers and notes under one arm. there was a calm elegance in how she moved. sharp, capable, but never overbearing.
(name) straightened and offered a small smile. "not rough. Just... full."
nanaba tilted her head knowingly. "full morning are often the ones that stay with you."
there was a pause before (name) spoke again, quieter this time. "thank you."
nanaba blinked. "for what?"
"for everything you've been doing since I arrived," (name) said, shifting slightly in place. "the food, the arrangements, the people you've sent to help... I know you've had a hand in all of it. even if it wasn't always obvious."
nanaba's expression softened. "you noticed."
"I did. I don't think i couldve survived the first week without you."
there was a warm chuckle from the older woman as she adjusted the papers in her arms. "its not often we have foreign royalty living under our roof. I thought it was only fair you were treated as more than just a political arrangement."
(name) looked at her carefully. "do you think that's all I am?"
nanaba was quiet for a moment, then gave a light shrug. "at first, maybe. but not anymore."
that caught (name) off guard, the honesty and the gentleness in it.
nanaba stepped closer and nodded softly, "youre doing better than you think. it's not easy to change people's minds around here. but you're not running. you're showing up."
a beat passed between them, then nanaba smiled and glanced towards the long hallway ahead. "Come on. let's find something warm to drink. I hear Carla's started baking early."
(name) followed with a small, genuine smile... feeling a little lighter.

OMG IM SOSO HONOURED 😭😭 HERES ANOTHER ONE 2 CHAPTERS IN 1 DAY
So what if Levi and Sunny are playing Dti(it was Sunny's idea) and the server recognized them so someone made a theme Sunny/Levi.
Another one were Levi was looking roblox games to play(he got bored immediately with dti😞). He saw Dead Rails and Foresaken, and during the whole gameplay he was just protecting her</3.
Hope this is not too much of a request😭🥰(tag me toooo)
HELLLLOO!! sorry I've been gone for awhile but my job literally got me working 7 days straight 8 hours and I REALLY wish I was kidding 😭😭 but I found some time to make these so I hope these are okay 💗
~ when sunny finally makes levi play roblox
I was also thinking if levi had a roblox account I feel like bro dgaf to change it so he's unfortunately the noob (bro doesn't want to spend MONEY on ROBUX)
guys my bf doesn't gaf either he has the bacon avatar and it hurts to look at
BUTTTT if he does get bullied by sunny or/and Connie he would choose I think something minimalist?
not EXACTLYYYY this but I hope u get the vibe I'm going for?
I think he'd also get bored of obbies and dress up games and would rather play survival games or tycoons lol maybe a pet simulator if the cats are cute
and now obviously sunny is you so you get to choose what ur roblox character looks like 😌💗
Omg omg omg I'm soooooo excited for your new series!! The premise is so good?! I can't wait!! And I can't wait for you to continue "clickbait" either! Please please please never stop you have such great ideas and good writing!! (No rush though, don't feel pressured 🩵)
thank you so much for your sweet words!! I always loved writing and reading fanfics hehe but sometimes i never find the ones I want so I started writing them instead :P I hope to finish clickbait soon and maybe just take request for it 😁 but I also take request I general 💗
