if that strikes you as naive or nonsequitur, i want you to put yourself into the shoes of a palestinian in the gaza strip, suffering untold famine and trauma at the hands of israel and the US empire, living through a genocide of everyone you've known and loved.

now imagine that the only food that you can eat is food that violates your religious dietary restrictions, sent straight from the people who are supplying the bombs and guns for you to be killed.

is that not, too, a form of ethnic cleansing? of erasure?

In apartheid South Africa, funerals were often political events. They weren’t subject to the same limitations as other events that might draw a crowd (until 1985), and the speakers at them often denounced the apartheid regime. Of course, these often ended in riots against the oppressive regime.

Andor seems to portray the same thing. The writers of the show are thinking about how oppression really works, and how people have stood up against it. The show is successful because it cares about these issues, and has empathy for the real victims of tyranny, even as it examines their plight in a fictional world. I love this show.

just. losing my damn mind at the way andor shows acts of rebellion. culture is rebellion, language is rebellion, living is rebellion. and of course, like nemik writes, rebellion is collective. individual acts all across the galaxy add up and up and up until the spark catches and the flame bursts. we see it in the townspeople of ferrix — their mourning, their traditions are used as bait for cassian, an attempt to bring stop his acts of rebellion, but it doesn’t work. of course it doesn’t work. they move the funeral forwards, they use the bell tower to signal, they use their strengths to embody rebellion. and it’s just like nemik says — the empire is unnatural, it has to work and work and work to keep people downtrodden and consumed by the imperial machine. so naturally, like we see from cassian and maarva and brasso and the countless citizens of ferrix who are waking up, the empire can’t understand, syril and dedra (both of whom are shown to work and live in highly individualistic, cutthroat environments) can’t understand. that’s how the rebellion wins. together

Apparently a lot people are having a difficult time understanding what's going on so I'm going to be as clear as possible. People in Iran aren't protesting against Islam. They are protesting against their government and police brutality. They are protesting because their government is using religion as a means of oppression. They are protesting because women have had their choice taken away from them and they are being killed. Does this sound familiar in any way?????
