Dew shining faintly on small tufts of grass
A day full of rain has now come to pass
And maybe he shouldn't as dusk turns to night
But he gets in his car and turns on the light
He shuffles through his glovebox to find
A messenger's tool to keep men in line
He turns off the light and begins to drive
Tonight is someone's last night alive
The rain picks back up and visibility's low
But there's no time to waste, and he can't be slow
The rain overhead may be heavy and strong
But that never stopped him, so he takes a long
Drag off his cigarette and parks at the bar
Where his target is sitting, on his fifth drink so far
The man from the car approaches with glee
As the man at the bar attempts to flee
The scene becomes quiet as the struggle ends
Between the two men, who used to be friends
Til the driver found out that the drunkard had killed
A young little woman who was nothing but thrilled
To drive for her first time, but she happened to be
On the same road as he when the gnac said to speed
The inebriated man left the crash fine
And didn't feel guilty for his careless crime
The driver, with pride, stepped away from the view
Just far enough to see the red and blue
Lights hit the wall so he slinked through the rear
He got back to his car and floored it for fear
That he might get caught for his act of retribution
But the lights never followed, and he called it absolution
For his action killed a man who was a dangerous force
And he tells himself that so he won't feel remorse
And he gets some good rest once he's home from his ride
Or that was the plan 'til he crashed and he died
On his way to the bar when he swerved from a deer
And so his drunken nemesis had a sixth beer
