Review: The Epistick (Facial hair removal)
You're probably thinking 'What on earth is that? How do I use that thing to get rid of hair?' Let me explain.
This handy tool is great for pulling out hairs from areas around your face, it's a bit like threading but far less painful! This is a must for those who want to get rid of their lady stache, lady beards, cheek fuzz, what have you. This Epistick is pretty much a spring with handles on either side, and as you roll the spring against your face using the handles, the hairs on your face will get trapped in the spring and eventually will be pulled out by the motion in which you use to role the gadget. It's so simple to use, really, with some practice at the beginning. If you YouTube 'Epistick demo' I'm sure you'll be able to find a lot of demonstrations to follow.
This worked wonders for me and I've been using it for about three years now; I replace my old one with a new one every year as it tends to lose its effectiveness overtime. Don't fret! this little gadget is super cheap on Amazon at only £1.27 and free shipping!

This will save you a lot of money on hair removal.
Please note that it may or may not work for everyone! My friend who has thicker hairs on her upper lip found that it didn't work for her because the spring couldn't quite catch the hairs. But if you are similar to my friend and want to give it a try then go for it! For £1.27 it's worth giving a shot. Whether something on the market will work for you or not is totally up to trial and error.
Enjoy!
Update
I've been really bad with my posts lately. I have a review that I've been putting off doing but I will eventually get round to it, hopefully today.
I've ordered the absorbic acid (vitamin c) for my serum making. I've also spent big money on an Avene product, and I'm so nervous because I have no idea how it's going to react with my sensitive skin. I'll talk about these a bit more once I've tested them out first.
I really want to try the dermaroller to improve the scars on my face, and I've been researching like crazy; reading review after review. I want to buy one off of Amazon but I've read warnings about how those are usually of poor quality and shouldn't be used on your face. On the other hand, I've also read really good reviews. I'm so torn.
In other news, I've also been researching serums and I plan to make my own serum (Vitamin C).
I've been wanting a travel notebook to write in whilst I'm out and about, because sometimes I have ideas for writing material or I feel like venting and I'll always tell myself that I will write as soon as I get home and I end up forgetting those thoughts.
So I decided to hunt for a pocket sized notebook. Whilst I was grocery shopping at Sainsbury's today I came across these cute floral notebooks. I decided to buy a mummy one and a baby one, because Sainsbury's is currently having an offer on school supplies and these notebooks were part of the buy one get one free (the cheapest), so I thought why not! I got the baby one for free and I've only spent £3.99/£4.99 :) I can use the bigger notebook for bigger thoughts, and the smaller one for little fleeting thoughts and for when I'm on the go.
I've already started venting in the baby notebook.
Help! I need a new face moisturiser. One that will help really dry skin please! I'm looking into some of the Lush ones and gosh they're expensive. I can't decide whether I want to try Skin Drink or Celestial! If anyone can recommend anything that will help parched skin that would be fab.
Lipsticks and Lip Liners (Part 2 - Lip Liners)
Lip Liners:
Natural Collection Lip Liner: Espresso £1.99
Avon Glimmerstick Lip Liner: Red brick £6
Top - downwards: Red brick, Espresso.
Yet another very small collection, if you would still call it that. But like my lipsticks, I'm somewhat content with just these two lip liners. I use these in combination with the lipsticks I have, or on their own.
Avon Glimmerstick Lip Liner (Red brick):
"Vitamin enriched for smoother application without dragging."
Application: It does not glide on as easily as a lipstick, it does drag a little bit but it doesn't bother me. It has a very small tip application which I like so that I can have a more precise application. You also don't need to sharpen it, it's a twist up lip liner.
Colour pigmentation: Opaque, and a very nice bright cherry colour.
Price: I bought this lip liner when it was on offer, but £6 isn't too bad. The quality is definitely worth the money.
Longevity: It helps keep my lipsticks in place (I use this under my buttered rum/ravishing rose lipstick.) and it also helps them to last a bit longer. It does the job right :)
Overall finish: Matte, and very drying on the lips. I suggest exfoliating the lips with a lip scrub or your toothbrush beforehand and then slather on some moisturising lip product afterwards to make the application smoother and avoid accentuating already dry lips.
To repurchase and to recommend?: This is my second purchase, and I'm still happy with it! I'd love to buy this lip liner in other colours. If you're looking for a really good lip liner, try this one!
Natural Collection Lip Liner (Espresso):
Application: It does not glide on as easily as a lipstick, it does drag a little bit but it doesn't bother me. It's a pencil application so sharpening will be needed.
Colour pigmentation: Opaque, a dark brown that will continue to get darker if you build up layers of it.
Price: A very cheap £1.99
Longevity: It helps keep my lipsticks in place (I use this under my buttered rum/mauve it over lipstick.) and it also helps them to last a bit longer. It does the job right :)
Overall finish: Matte, and very drying on the lips. I suggest exfoliating the lips with a lip scrub or your toothbrush beforehand and then slather on some moisturising lip product afterwards to make the application smoother and avoid accentuating already dry lips.
To repurchase and to recommend?: I'm not sure whether I'll be repurchasing this as I really love the avon lip liner and there seems to be brown colour in the range which I'd love to try. We'll see. :)
Lipsticks and Lip Liners (Part 1 - Lipsticks)
Lipsticks:
Avon extra lasting lipstick: Vintage pink and Ravishing rose £7.50 each
Avon ultra colour rich (satin): Buttered rum £7
Revlon matte lipstick: Mauve it over £7.49
Can you tell which one's my favourite?
Left to right: Vintage pink, Ravishing rose, Buttered rum, Mauve it over.
As you can see, I only have a small collection of lipsticks and most of them are from Avon except for the one Revlon. I don't endeavour to buy any more lipsticks at the moment, because I'm comfortable and content with some of the lipsticks I have now. But I thought I'd let you know what I think about them since I've been using them for quite a while
I've never paid full price for the avon lipsticks, I bought them when they were on offer. I order mine from an avon representative who leaves an avon magazine outside our door for us to pick up and flick through, but you can also buy them online.
Avon extra lasting lipsticks (Vintage pink and Ravishing rose):
"Moisturising high-definition lipstick with Fresh Wear Complex lasts up to 8 hours. Feels luxurious with a silky satin finish. SPF15."
Application: Glides on with ease with its slightly creamy texture.
Colour pigmentation: Opaque and are very bright colours. The colour gets more vibrant if you build it up. I'm talking Nicki Minaj vibrant.
Price: Bought whilst on offer, but the full price (£7.50) is still pretty cheap for a lipstick.
Longevity: Sadly it does not last long in my experience, despite its claim to be 'extra lasting' up to '8 hours'. For me, it lasts for about 2-3 hours. Perhaps a lip liner beforehand would help to keep them stay in place longer. I haven't tried that yet. Blotting and reapplying another coat helps a bit.
Overall finish: Semi-matte, it does feel silky on the lips but it's not very 'moisturising'. The colours are beautiful.
To repurchase and to recommend?: I personally wouldn't be repurchasing from this lipstick line. The only thing that impressed me was the colours, but I think I can find dupes of these colours within other lipstick brands that will last longer on my lips. I wouldn't recommend it.
Confession: I did not like the way Vintage pink looked on me at all, it looked way too bright and it just looked wrong on me. I actually use this lipstick as a cheek blush.
Avon ultra colour rich, satin (it comes in different finishes e.g. satin, glossy, matte) (Buttered rum):
"With vitamin E and jojoba to hydrate lips, get gorgeous colour that gives a voluptuous look to lips."
Application: Glides on with ease and it feels very creamy.
Colour pigmentation: Opaque and the colour gets darker as you build it up
Price: Bought whilst on offer, but the full price (£7) is still pretty cheap for a lipstick.
Longevity: It doesn't last that long (about the same time as the avon extra lasting lipsticks, 2-3 hours), but with the avon glimmerstick lip liner in 'red brick'/natural collection lip liner in 'espresso' it does last slightly longer on the lips, they're also good combos. Also by blotting and applying another coat of the lipstick a few times over. However, the boldness of the colour wears off a bit throughout the day, especially if I've been eating and drinking so I do tend to need to touch up every now and then (annoyingly).
Overall finish: Slightly glossy. It's definitely hydrating and I'm in love with the colour. I love browny, brick reds on myself. This is my favourite lipstick of them all.
To repurchase and to recommend?: If I can't find a dupe of this colour with a longer staying power then I will definitely will be repurchasing. I cannot live without red lipstick. I would recommend this lipstick for you all to try if you're interested.
Revlon Matte Lipstick (Mauve it over):
"Revlon® Matte Lipstick gives suede-like application and maximum colour. Rich matte colour glides effortlessly across lips."
Application: Glides on with ease and it feels creamy.
Colour pigmentation: It looks nothing like the lipstick bullet. On my lips it comes off as a sheer peachy pink/burnt peach colour. The more you build up, the more opaque the colour.
Price: This lipstick retails for £7.49 which I think is still relatively cheap.
Longevity: It lasts a couple of hours (about 5-6 hours) but I do find that the colour eventually fades.
Overall finish: A matte finish that doesn't feel dry and uncomfortable. I sometimes like using this with my natural collection lip liner in 'Espresso' (a brown) to make it look darker.
To repurchase and to recommend?: I would definitely repurchase and recommend! Especially those of the same skin tone as me and are eager to try nudes. It's of good quality and I'd love to get my hands on their reds! This is my first nude-ish lipstick and I'm very impressed. I've always wanted to try nude lipsticks, but I've always been worried about it looking odd on me. I'm also more accustomed to red lipstick so this was a big jump, a good and lucky jump.
I'm going to be working on two posts today. I've just finished taking some pictures, now I have to do some write up :)
This is what I wore today before I headed out to the post office. I love anything that cinches in at the waist.
Crochet cardigan - Charity shop
Stripey crop top - New Look
Floral high waisted skirt - Tesco
I decided to leave my hair in pin curls last night, with no idea what I'd end up doing to my hair the next day. So I woke up, took all the pins out and then brushed through my hair with my fingers. Of course, I ended up with massively extra curly hair, but then I had realised that it would be too hot to leave my thick hair down.
So I created my own rendition of this lovely hair tutorial I absolutely adore. It's very easy and everyone and anyone can do it! Give it a go and feel free to show me how it turned out :)
The alterations I've made:
I've let loose some hairs at the front to make it look a bit messy (I like messy.).
I've left my fringe to naturally quiff up.
Instead of putting my hair in a low ponytail and twisting it inwards as seen on the video, I've pinned up all my hair to gain the finished result because I couldn't find a black hair band to help me. Section by section (of hair) I coiled it inwards towards my head and pinned it down, but I made sure the coils were big and not small.
Instead, I suppose you could say I made a faux bob.
necklace: Local vintage fair, £5
shoes: hand me downs
Skirt: Primark, £10
Ring: New Look, £2
Scarf: Lush, £3.95
(kindly modeled by willow)
Necklace: Freedom at Topshop, £2.50
You'll be seeing a lot of Scarlett and her wonderful finds on here :) Go follow her!
