DOWNTON Abbey star Michelle Dockery has told how she went into stern “Lady Mary mode” when she lost her cool in a noisy hotel.
The actress was in her PJs when she was woken by other guests in the middle of the night before an important day of filming the hit ITV drama.
Michelle, who returns as the intimidating aristocrat in the new series on Sunday, said: “Laura Carmichael and I were sharing a room as we’re good mates and there was loads of noise coming from downstairs.
“We couldn’t sleep because of the noise and we had a really, really early call for filming, so we phoned reception “But these people wouldn’t calm down and kept on talking.
“So I went down in my pyjamas and went into Lady Mary mode, knocked on their door and said to them ‘We can hear every word that you’re saying, can you please keep it down!’ I think that they were aware that we were in the hotel and knew who we were so we did automatically scare them.
“They calmed down eventually and we were actually sent a crate of champagne as an apology.
“It was late as our pick up time was about 6am and this was 2am!”
Laura, who plays Lady Edith, said of the incident: “It was hilarious, it was the funniest thing ever.
“We both woke up grumpy and Michelle went downstairs and she suddenly became Lady Mary telling these people off!”
But Michelle insisted she was not normally like Lady Mary in real life.
She said: “I think people initially think that I’m going to be quite cold and intimidating like her.
“But then I get responses from them and they realise I’m a bit different.”
