How To Survive the Third Trimester
I’m not gonna lie, and I’ve never tried to hide this: this pregnancy has kicked my ass all over town. I am so, so incredibly relieved that we’re closing in on the final lap here. That doesn’t mean these last few months are going to be any easier than the rest of my pregnancy has been, or that the last trimester is anything but pain and exhaustion for most pregnant mommas.
But, this isn’t my first rodeo. I’ve been through this miserable neck of the woods enough before to have a good idea of how to make it suck a little less while I wait for my bun to be done cooking. So I decided to slap together a list of what I do (or plan to do) to survive the third trimester.
Get a body pillow. Or twelve. Sleep can be difficult at any time of pregnancy but if it hasn’t hit you yet, it’s pretty much guaranteed to in these last three months. Body pillows are my favourite thing ever. I have two.
One word: TUMS. The bigger your little bean gets, the more likely they are to cause heartburn. Don’t wait for it to hit to stock up on TUMS. I keep them in my diaper bag my whole pregnancy as well as keeping at least one bottle around the house at all times. Heart burn sucks.
Comfy clothes. Whatever this means for you - for me, it’s baggy t shirts, basic cotton tank tops, and sweat pants. Some swear by overalls, others by maxi dresses, but find whatever makes you feel your most comfortable in your gargantuan state, and live in it. If anyone judges you for it, just sit on them (kidding…. kind of)
Nap. Since sleep doesn’t always happen at night - the time babies usually decide to perform an interpretive dance - take advantage of any time you can during the day to get the rest you need when you’re feeling fatigued or run down. With other kids running around this can be especially challenging, but don’t feel even slightly guilty for passing out the moment they’re down for their own naps.
Hydrate! It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated, but it’s especially crucial in pregnancy and in the third trimester. Dehydration can cause preterm labour, so eat some watermelon and buy yourself a pretty water bottle to encourage you to drink more water and stay hydrated!
Do some yoga. Now before you scoff, hear me out. I’m not talking about some super intense work out, I’m talking about easy, low-key, gentle stretches that can help loosen up your aching muscles and relieve some of the pain brought on by everything your body is doing to grow your baby.
Indulge. At some point you’re going to finally be fed up and over being pregnant. You’re going to get frustrated and grumpy and you’re going to want to hide in bed with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and watch Friends. Do it. Eat your ice cream, your twizzlers, whatever it is you’re craving and just indulge in being a massively pregnant woman for a while. You deserve it.
Have a bath. And finally, my favourite thing to do - run a bath. Light some candles, sprinkle rose petals in the tub, spend your entire savings account on bath products from Lush if you have to. Warm water and aromatherapy go a long way to relieve pregnancy related aches and lift pregnancy related stress off your shoulders.
Can't wait to take my little lady for swimming lessons

Can't wait to do this with my baby
