Mona nodded. “Good. I haven’t seen you in a while though. Were you still busy with your new project?” she asked politely. Then Mona smiled. “Ali, I’m better now. Really. Doctor Kingston told me so myself. He would not let me out if he’d knew I was still gonna be a danger to you and your friends.”
“My project?” Alison’s brows knitted in confusion before she remembered her prom queen campaign and how Mona had been -A, of course she knew all about that. “Yeah. I am.” Better? How can she be better? Why would they even let her back in the same school as us? Alison thought to herself. “Well, if Doctor Kingston said it it must be the truth. At least I hope it is,” she said with a smile that would’ve seemed genuine to the untrained eye. “You know I’d hate to see you go back to that place. Or worse.”
“Thanks Ali.” Mona smiled. “This really means a lot to me. I hope you realize how sorry I am, for... you know. I’m happy we talked in Radley.” Mona spotted the rest of Ali’s clique coming closer. They must wonder why we are talking; Mona thought. “Well, have a nice day at school.” She told Ali. “I’ve gotta get my schedule.” Mona quickly walked away, before any of the other girls were close enough to ask her questions.
