hi everybody
i came back to say that i am JELLY
Hi i wanted to ask other fellow mp fans what do u guys think about the song stone letter from tomahawk i wanted to ask toss-me-inside-a-hefty also but i dont have an account here :( ... what do u think about the lyrics do u know about who it is? or what hes talking about?i tried to do research about stone letters,do u know whats a stone letter or what mike might mean by this? Thanks
I just read this message since I had no idea it was there in the inbox, way to go, tumblr!
Most of Pattonâs lyrics are so criptic that I just tend to overlook all possible meanings and enjoy his perfomance in general. What I do in these cases, though, is to try to pay attention to the feeling I get from the music and the lyrics. Then again, this is Patton weâre dealing with here, so I can only speculate when I say that âStone letterâ is about him trying to get some kind of reaction from someone who has known him for a long time and is showing indifference towards their relationship  (of whatever nature it is). You could think itâs nostalgia on Pattonâs (the narratorâs) side, heâs like âHey! Whatever happened to us? You have changed, I have changed, but that doesnât mean we have to grow apart!â That is the feeling I get from this song. Very quick analysis, ha.
What do you think?
p.s. toss-me-inside-a-hefty it seems you were wanted around here ;)
Iâm not toss-me-inside-a-hefty but I have been a Mike Patton fan for a very long time (dear lord, itâs been over twenty years) so I thought Iâd weigh in.
While I unfortunately have no idea who or what Stone Letter is about, I have noticed, in the interviews Iâve read at least, Patton is usually pretty evasive when asked about his lyrics. (I vividly remember one interview where, when asked if his songs mean anything he replied âThey mean something to me. Hopefully they mean something to you fuckers.â)
I also recall reading an interview with Roddy Bottum once where he mentioned that Mikeâs lyrics are often less personal than character studies (an obvious example of this would be RV by Faith No More), where heâs playing a part and telling a story rather than revealing something personal about himself.
Iâm not sure whether or not thatâs the case with Stone Letter (it seems to be his lyrics have gotten more personal as heâs gotten older, though thatâs less a solid fact than my perception, which could be off), but it is a possibility.
Okay, sorry to jump into a conversation that didnât really involve me. Carry on. Have a wonderful day!
Youâve actually helped me answer this one ;-)Â
