Watched this at random on Netflix and it’s pretty good. The story follows a set of twins, in particular the sister as they suffer under the curse of family sin and some very real family ghosts. Doomed to live a life ruled by the spirits that haunt their home and family, the twins take different paths in how to live with it, the brother accepting and the sister refusing. The story is a pretty good Gothic tale, if it falls a bit short in the horror department. It’s a little creepy but not overly scary or frightening. That said, if you watch it as merely a supernatural period drama it’s a lot better. The film is pretty simple but set in Ireland at the end of the first world war and right before the Irish Civil War and although politics are not a major part of the story, a historical back drop gives the story some depth and saves it from falling flat. At the same time however the story abounds in Gothic fiction tropes, including a cursed family, a decaying mansion, doomed love and tragedy, not to mention some ethereal visuals and creeping ghouls that seem to hang just out of the corner of your eye. The slow pacing and lack of horror factors might be a turn off for some people but if you enjoy Gothic tales this might be a good watch for you.

That’s right. I’m back. I got your cute messages and I feel bad for not updating in so long. But I’m gonna be honest, I had to concentrate on myself and a lot of stuff going on in my life so this pause was necessary. The sad thing is I don’t think I’ll be able to be as active as I used to with everything going on right now. But the good thing is I’m still there.
