It's been awhile since I posted anything because I've been caught up in playing so much.
I actually have more posts upcoming as well, one related to this photo even, so I hope you all have also been enjoying the game so far!
I'm really curious about what's been everyone's favorite hunt so far and/or if anything in game surprised you.
It took me awhile to start noticing our Cahoot around the village but I love how they like to be around us. Also, I'm glad that they're super chill with sharing the stuff they bring into their nest with us.
I wasn't sure if I was gonna be as attached to the Cahoot as I've been with Poogie and Moofy in the past, especially since we also have the Palamute, but it didn't take long to win me over.
I took some pictures in front of and above the wirebug nest in the Buddy Plaza. Thanks again cstalli for giving me the heads up about this!
It's really cool to see how all of the buddy's really are trained/raised in the same area of Kamura village. I could go on about it but right now I think it's good to recognize that this really does show how integral the wirebugs are as well as the kind of space they occupy in the minds of the villagers.
It's really interesting how wirebugs seem to cooperate with us in the same way the palamutes and felynes do.
This hasn't really been covered in media, or even most wiki sites, as far as I can tell and I think it's interesting to consider given how they're treated in game vs how popular perception seems to only consider them as tools.
These tiny creatures are able to bind monsters, send us flying, keep us mid air momentarily, and so much more. Yet we don't get to see how/what they eat.
Apparently the males only ever look for and then chill out by jewel lilies which might be good if one great wirebug could sustain itself off of them but we don't know.
We aren't aware of a lot about them despite the hunting methods being used in the region relying on them. I hope we're able to uncover more about them either with new info yet to be cataloged or in later updates.
The dynamic of interacting with companions during gestures and at the end of quests is great. I know we got to see this in the demo but it feels even better to be seeing with with our own characters.
It's been fun playing and learning so much about the endemic life. I already have a lot to say. Though I'm also wondering, since I've seen so many positive responses from people taking time to explore the maps, do you have a go to kind of endemic life?, do you use whatever is on your path?, or do you largely ignore them all?
Feel free to share any response!
Happy Hunting!
Just got my copy so I'll have more to share soon enough I'm sure!
Tomorrow is the day! Have a Splooting Almond.
Tried out several poses with the palamute
Using wirebugs to jump across large gaps often leads to nicer benefits! There's a nearby puppet spider for all of the hunts but you'd miss it if you overlook more difficult jumps.
From a gameplay perspective this incentives exploration and mastery of the wirebugs.
From a lore perspective a lot of rare endemic life try to be away from the paths taken by larger creatures it seems.
I'm looking forward to find out more about both tomorrow!
I'm really interested in learning more about wirebug moves as well as more about them in general. I find myself thinking about the endemic life in general but I feel like I've already almost overlooked wirebugs and the idea that these bugs produce this wire like substance is fascinating.
Finishing the demo's tutorial hunt on Master Utsushi's palamute let's you pose with them
I realized like 5 minutes ago that someone else has a blog going by "monhun-musings" and with how frequently I search the Monster Hunter tags I probably saw it and forgot that it was a thing while thinking about what to name this blog.
So I'm brainstorming new names if anyone has ideas lol
If you're Monhun-Musings, sorry my bad. I'll be sure to check next time.
The Palamute will pose with you!
I've been struggling with the demo's Magnamalo fight but I've been getting a little better at it. I know a part of the difficulty for me is the shorter time limit since it has me playing a bit more recklessly to try and get in more damage in time but I just want to focus for a moment here.
I think there's a lot of focus on successful hunts and I've been hearing about new players being scared away from the demo because they don't think they can get better and they haven't been able to do the Mizutsune hunt yet.
I really want people to see that it's not just new players that will see this screen. We are all playing, improving, and learning together. Whether or not I'll finish this hunt before release my progress is built off of each attempt that's ended on this screen.
It's not just me playing either. Other people have succeeded where I've failed, which means I can seek out guides and learn more about what I can do. Maybe there's a strategy I haven't considered or perhaps a wire bug related maneuver I'd have never known about on my own. Maybe there's nothing new to add to how I'm going at this hunt but I can try to improve my own reaction time by getting more accustomed to how the monster moves.
At the end of the day it can be frustrating but it's also fun and an experience I'm sharing with friends along with a whole community of players. You don't have to already be great at the game because the game is in part about your growth. Both in the gear you'll get as well as the skills you'll learn along the way.
Just know you're not expected to be perfect and sometimes you need to try and fail to understand how you can accomplish your goals.
Happy Hunting!
Ethical Hunter
The more I'm digging into the lore the more I'm realizing that although the main message of the series to overall good there is also an underlying theme of morality being waved away for selfish reasons.
Really simple details are overlooked based on wording and suddenly your actions in game become questionable. Those Kelbi horns you were gathering for medicine?, well they're BELIEVED to have healing properties so why not help someone stock up? Grab some livers while you're at it! Do they actually heal?, unimportant cause you're a hunter!
It's made me rethink how I've been looking at the game world more. Not only is there criminal activity happening behind the scenes but you are also encouraged to aid it for your own benefit and you have no incentive to read into the requests since avoiding completing them simply means you aren't rewarded.
It's also interesting to note that these quests seem to largely come from villages or other sources. The Guild itself seems to only be interested in assigning you hunts that are said to be about helping the people of an area survive in some way.
So are you playing a Hunter who believes they are always helping even when they're being taken advantage of to do someone else's dirty work? Or are you perhaps a criminal running away from persecution by joining the guild? Willing to commit crime for your own benefit, or maybe wishing you could live in a world where you didn't have to anymore? Were you a soldier who decided you didn't want to only obey orders about controlling Jaggi populations to help people? Were you really ONLY ordered to help control monster populations?
We get such a small slice of the world in our role as a hunter and I'm both excited to try and uncover more details I missed in past games as well as possibly rethinking how I view my character in game.
