Travel isnât always pretty. It isnât always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But thatâs okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.

Scenes From Above with Highliner @carlmarrs
To see more of Carlâs highline views, follow @carlmarrs on Instagram.
âItâs like, âYeah Iâm out here balancing on a one-inch-wide [2.5 cm] band of nylon fibers above a great drop, and I feel really good about it. Yeah, I like this. This is good.ââ Welcome to the inner-dialogue of Carl Marrs (@carlmarrs), a 23-year-old climber and highliner from Seattle. Highlining is slacklinging â walking on webbing that is fixed to two anchors â but at elevation. âI think itâs cool that as human beings our mind has the power to transform a situation from something dangerous into something exhilarating,â Carl says. But before ever becoming attracted to the adrenaline of great heights, Carl was inspired by the photographs of climbers and highliners he admired.
Carl started climbing with high school friends in 2010 and later discovered a passion for slacklining during a trip with to Yosemite, the site where some believe slacklining was invented. âIâve slacklined as much as possible since then and donât see any signs of slowing down,â he says. Through slacklining, Carl has found more than just an athletic challenge with amazing views. He has found belonging in a vibrant community. âThe times Iâve spent at highline festivals surrounded by the tribe are the best of my life,â Carl says.
While Carl enjoys being out on the ropes with fellow athletes as well as sharing his photographs with a diverse community, he also values the meditative and solitary feeling he gets out in the wilderness. âThe best moments come when Iâm out in the middle of a highline, comfortably balancing, feeling a light breeze blow by and hearing nothing but the calls of swooping birds echoing through the canyons hundreds of feet below me.â

Counting down to FIFA Womenâs World Cup Canada 2015!
Despite FIFAâs controversy with its corruption and gross double standards against women playing football/soccer (perfectly summarized in John Oliverâs recent episode) I am still very excited to make noise for the WWC this year, as always!
Some links to prep you for the WWC: *100 Facts about WWC history* *Top 10 Players to Watch* *Last WWC Final Shoot-Out Japan vs USA 2011* *General info about the WWC on the official website* *Players respond to FIFA president Sepp Blatterâs sexist statements*
Shout-out to debut WWC teams this year, which includes Cameroon, Costa Rica, CĂŽte dâIvoire, Ecuador, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Thailand (my home country, yay)
Unlike when I watch menâs WC or league football for some reason I donât particularly cheer for one team to win, but I hope to see Brasil and Japan put up a good fight against who I think will be the two mighty teams this year, Germany and USA.
Players I adore and will be cheering for: Homare Sawa (Japan) || Marta (Brasil)âhave you seen her footwork? || Abby Wambach (USA) ||  Asisat Oshoala (Nigeria)âalso the forward of my favorite English football club, Liverpool
Who are your favorite WWC players? Favorite WWC moments?Â
Selfie with my mom, the #gata. Which in Brazil would mean hot mamasita.
This is a normal Sunday in #Rio. Land of bodies and futebol.
