The rhetorical choices that I decided to use for my DSA where videos and a Twitter post that all talk about Gun Violence Laws. The videos that I decided to use all have several pathos behind them. I decided to use these because the topic and its consequences also have pathos just as the video where President Obama talks about the new gun violence laws.

My topic for this assignment was the influence of society on body shaming. To me, this post on a tumblr blog was the most useful to me because the writer gave examples that seemed normal before the research but now they seem extremely dangerous. 

The post is really interesting and calls for attention. the pictures included are actual posts on social media like instagram and facebook which makes younger readers want to read the post. The main idea is that there are challenges on social media like the collar bone challenge or the belly button test that promote self esteem. There are pictures of girls who are actually doing these things and they look extremely skinny and as if they are still not content with their bodies. Which means that they are body shaming themselves. In this post we can see how it is society who is affecting the mentalities of these girls but on the other hand, why are they doing it? Because they are pressured by society or because they want to look good for themselves?

I believe that immigration will always exist and there will always be someone who will not support it which will result in it being a problem to some that will eventually lead to it being a constant issue

What are you essentially advocating for? Are you pro or against illegal immigration? Based on what you talk about in your video, how do you feel about Donald Trump’s racist comments toward mexicans and latinos? I’m advocating for immigration and those who really need it to be granted asylum. I believe that he has a wrong mentality towards Mexicans and Latinos, as if Mexicans were the only “bad” guys; you don’t necessarily have to be a Mexican in order to be a criminal or to sell drugs, anybody can do/be that. I believe that immigrants contribute both positively and negatively on different parts of the economy, for example a negative impact is on government expenditures

Week 13

I decided to do the Digital Source Analysis because I liked the idea of creating a video in which everything that I was writing about could be presented visually with pictures and facts in a certain amount of time. This assignment was a little easier thanks to the sources being required not having to be credible, YouTube was one of the main resources I used due to its multiple ways of presenting information about my topic.

Creating the Digital Source Analysis would get a little overwhelming, but at the end, I was happy with the result and was happy about how it connected with my topic.

Confused about Week 12 Assignments

I am confused as to what is due this week, i see post about people reflecting on their documentary and what they are doing, yet i didn’t that as an assignment on blackboard. Also, how do we submit the documentary video link, and i read on blackboard the we are simply turning in a rough draft but where and when is the final documentary due.

Literature Review Reflection

1. What patterns did you find in the development, or enhancement, of your research skills?

During the research process I found myself double checking all my sources and all the information that was going to be part of my lit review. I made sure that everything I was including in my assignment was credible.

2. Did your assessment/evaluation of the sources change? If so, how?Yes, I wanted to use certain sources but they just wouldn’t provide the information that I was expecting to find. 

3. Do you think the methodology described in questions 1 and 2 work? Yes/No. Explain.

Yes, this methodology worked because it helped the flow of my paper and it helped me stay on track and not go out of topic. It also helped me see if my paper was missing something or if it could be improved in a way.

 Question 3, for this question, if you follow a certain method, it will most likely lead you to the objective that you are trying to meet in order to accomplish the assignment. It will keep you on track and not lead you to the wrong way 0

Literature Review Process

The procedure in searching through a variety of platforms and databases and searching around to find different types of sources and different perspectives for the Literature Review took me longer than expected, once I got comfortable and knew exactly what I was looking for it became easier for me to gather all the necessary information that I needed in order to complete the assignment.

A few concerns that I have regarding the completion of the Literature Review would be:

- Not dedicating the time needed in order to write this paper

- Not having good sources to help me with this assignment

- Going out of topic, as it can easily happen

Week 5

1. What did you know about genres before this assignment and what impact do you think studying genres may have on your writing?    

I was aware that genres were different types of sources from which you gather information that is given/presented in different forms. I think that the impact the genres had on my writing contributed to how I presented my analysis.

2. What are the complexities of using genres?

Genres can be somewhat complex when using them, personally I would start off right, knowing exactly what I wanted to write but then I would catch myself going out of topic and it made me see that if you don’t pay close attention you can end up with giving your opinion when you’re supposed to be neutral on all sides.   It is easy to make an error.

3. What is the value of studying and/or writing about genres?  

The value of genres helps you think beyond the reading, it makes you think much more and helps you analyze everything better.

4.Select one of the questions listed and explain the rhetorical choices you made towards answering the question.

I choose question number three because most of the time when I’m working on an assignment I tend to overthink things and that just makes it harder for me to accomplish when in reality it is very simple.

Week 3 Tumblr Post

     The student model I decided to analyze was “Campus Violence Against Women” written by Maria Eugenia Martinez. Based on the rubric, I would give this paper an A; I believe that the examples given were very well chosen to support the analysis on the topic, the genres were well developed, and the paper met most of the requirements based on the outline.

     The introduction explains the issue based on violence that occurs in university campuses around the United States. The writer addresses hat the issue can no longer be ignored by colleges and universities. The information that will be provided through the author is important because it informs the reader about the new law that will be implemented in campuses passed by President Obama; also, the club which is organized by students at school campuses informs others about the violence issue and how to help solve the problem.

     In my opinion, the student did a good job when focusing on the genres content, it described them in detail and presented them in an orderly manner. Provided enough examples and explained well each of the genres. Does a very good job informing the reader about the format of the genres.

Genre Analysis

Unsettled migrant crisis is my genre analysis. Its intended audience is for 18 year old and older and people interested in knowing more about immigration. The audience is aware of the current issue happening in Central America and the resulting causes in the Unites States; reading the article will take the reader around five minutes. The purpose of the article is to inform the reader about the danger caused when trying to flee from Central America into the US causing many to return to Mexico’s southern border. A visual is presented in the article with it being a warning sign which seems like two parents and their little girl running away.The article gains its credibility from a recognized newspaper being The New York Times. The genre is attempting the audience to evoke knowledge from the article by using accurate data obtained from the year 2015.

My name is Monica, I am currently a sophomore majoring in Business. I was both born and raised in El Paso, Texas and I have an older sister whom I consider to be my best friend. I have an associates degree in Pastry and my dream is to own my own bakery in the near future.
