George Grosz (American, born Germany, 1893-1959) Drinnen und Draussen (Inside and Outside), 1926, Oil on canvas. Yale University Art Gallery.
On this day, 27 June 1968, police raided the Atelier Populaire — the Popular Workshop which produced the iconic posters from the May 68 revolt. The artists didn't resist: they took their paper, paint and small press and left. The police were expecting to seize a large printing press and didn't realise that all the equipment was carried out by hand, so posters continued to be made and plastered around the city. We have numerous reproduction posters and artwork from the Atelier Populaire available in our online store to help fund our work: https://shop.workingclasshistory.com/collections/may-68

The stretched-out hand graffiti on the Berlin Wall. Many people photographed this. I think my version is the best, of course.
