he was so proud of himself and probably so happy she didn't automatically rejected his ass
Strattland Give Each Other A Look
The funniest but also really heartbreaking thing about the “Grace gets kidnapped” scene is how both Stratt and Grace look like theyre trying to hold in tears. Both their lips are quivering. Grace is terrified sick, meanwhile Stratt looks exactly like this
“You believe in god?”
I believe in goddess. Goddess:
Starwars strattland
Breha Organa “why do you bring Grace everywhere you go”
Stratt “he dumbs down the important Science without making people feel stupid and he is a petty face, people pay more attention”
Breha Organa “smart”
Stratt “yes, he also has bad separation anxiety and he stops me from punching some senators”
Breha Organa “I know that feeling of wanting to punch someone in the face for being so egotistical”
in the background Grace and Bail are doing different experiments. And set something on fire by accident as the guards look at the chaos.
someone write a scene that is literally that scene from friends where they are talking about who could be the guy rachel slept with and they have a sweater as a clue, then ross walks in and it's his sweater and everyone is like OMG
but instead is ilyukhina, dubois, shapiro and yao seeing grace had left his cardigan in stratt's room
probably ilyukhina or dimitri:
like i said before, i need more hail mary crew gossiping and betting over stratt and grace. so here a little headcanons:
dubois, ilyukhina, shapiro, redell, leclerc and the stagering waste of carbon voted: they are totally jumping each other bones
yao, dimitri, hatch and lokken werent that sure so they voted no.
shapiro betted that it was just sex.
the carbon waste betted it was only grace climbing up positions.
dubois betted that it could turn into something else.
ilyukhina betted that sooner or later they would get catched in a compromised position.
just imagine the face of the stagering waste of carbon when both dubois and ilyukhina and the rest were right
sometimes grace looks at his phone half-way through a meeting once eva has gone through both her venti coffees and is rapidly developing a migraine to then tell her they're both needed at the lab.
they are not.
but it gets them both out of the room, and the very first time he does it, he just looks at her and goes "you needed a break".
she briefly considers telling him not to do it again, then she sighs and starts walking towards the nearest room with a coffee machine; grace follows a step behind her, and invisible to each other, they're both smiling just a little.
it becomes routine after that, because he somehow always knows exactly when she needs to get away from people, like some sort of sixth sense he developed for her on purpose. one time he wasn't even in the room with her and supposed to be halfway across the ship in his lab.
instead, he knocked on the door and let himself in, ignoring the dozens of eyes immediately on him. it fascinates her how all the awkward anxiety bleeds away, how she becomes the only person in the room to him. grace doesn't say a word, just looks at her and tilts his head. an offer, really, an opening she can take or ignore, and she takes it without a moment of hesitation. the information she needs will get to her, it always does.
eva could ask how he knew, why he showed up when he did, but he hands her a warm cup of coffee and a blueberry muffin, and she decides she doesn't care — she just hopes he'll be there again the next time the world starts to suffocate her.
(he is, inexplicably and solid and carrying exactly what she needs.)
Tedbecca fic idea.
Before Ted returned to Kansas, he wrote a letter to Rebecca, saying everything he couldn't say, something like this:
"Dear Becca.
I'm sorry to have to leave, but Henry needs me.
These past three years have been the most unexpected thing that ever happened to me, but it ended up being the best thing because it led me to meet you. Meeting you was like finding the missing piece of my being, and in the midst of these three unexplained years, I ended up falling in love with you, with your smile, with your "fuck me" whenever you eat your biscuit, or with something extremely good But essentially I fell in love with you, all of you, the good and the bad things. And you, Rebecca, you deserve someone who makes you feel the same way you make me feel, and I hope that one day you'll have that, even if it hurts me that it's not me. Thank you for everything, Becca.
With love,
Ted "
Rebecca never read the letter, and three years later, with Ted back in Richmond coaching the women's team, she stumbles upon it in a closed box with memories from another lifetime while packing to meet the boat guy.
Will anything change now that she knows the truth?
Thoughts on the “you don’t even have a dog” line that seems to be making its way around the phm fandom?
Many!! Which you may or may not agree with lol
It's a brutal line. Like yeah. Of course it is. I won't pretend it's not cruel and devastating. That's the point!! Stratt will say absolutely anything necessary to get Grace on the Hail Mary in that moment. If he'd had a partner and children and other 'traditional' attachments, she would have used that as motivation instead. That's the TLDR, my ramblings below will probably be kind of talking in circles
look I'm not going to take away from people who read that in a more malicious way and who connect it with their own experiences of having their life devalued because of a lack of traditional romantic and familial relationships. especially given the widespread aroace reading of Grace, I completely understand reading it that way and am genuinely happy for whatever comfort it brings people!!
that said, I do like to take it a step further and really like. see it through Stratt's eyes? she also has given up everything for this project. she also seemingly has no attachments outside of work. she also is sacrificing unfathomable amounts for this project and for the world. she doesn't have any family, she doesn't have any friends, she doesn't even have a dog. actually, she's being forced to kill the closest thing to a friend she has. everything she says to him she can easily hold up in a mirror to herself
I personally, seeing as I love the secret third thing between them, also really like the reading where they ARE friends and they do have something deeply strange and intimate between them and Grace really does feel betrayed by this choice. It's not just being asked to die by his boss, it's being asked to die by the person he's closest to, one of the only people he's allowed himself to be vulnerable to in who knows how long... and she's asking him to die. Not only asking him to die, but hitting him in all the places she knows will hurt him the most. It's awful. It's part of the tragedy.
I like to also read it as her doing whatever she can to put some distance between them. She says the cruelest thing she can think of (and, as I recall, goes back to calling him 'Dr. Grace' instead of just Grace in the book, even more distance) as a way of severing the tie between them. She does it for her sake, to try to make it easier to watch him go and know she's sent him to die, but I think in her own way, she also thinks she's helping him. Like maybe if the last thing she does is say these awful things and hurt him, it'll be easier for him to move past whatever they had and be okay on his own and maybe he'll even think that the problem is her and not him, because I think she really put in so. much. effort. into making him see that he's not fundamentally flawed or wrong or broken. and here she comes doing something that she KNOWS will make him feel like he's worthless (even though in her eyes!!!! he could not be worth more!!! he is the man capable of saving the planet!!! there is no one more important to her than him!! but she knows him and she knows how he'll hear it and she knows he'll interpret it as being unloved and expendable)
it is a really hurtful line and it is pretty cruel. but beyond the fact that she would have said anything in that moment, I also think the cruelty was the point. I think, to her, it seemed like it would be a mercy to be this easily hated monster in this eyes. and really doesn't that just make the whole thing so much worse?
Eva is full of Grac -i say as they drag me with a hook.
*comes back fixing hair* I DID'T MEAN IT LIKE THAT. hannah means grace and that's their daughter's name...
Is the crew gonna notice they had a roll in hay? -gets dragged again
*comes back again*OKAY, OKAY. no bad jokes.
in an universe where the inminate extintion of the human race isnt breathing in their necks, in a universe where the lab didnt explote, dubois and shapiro are safe and sound, eva doesnt have to launch grace to space. nobody dies. nobody gets betrayee, nobody gets sent to jail. everyone lives. the hail mary crew find rocky, save erid save earth, and somehow rocky and grace still becomes friends, somehow
family picture.

grace has mate, question
(he doesnt know he cant remember)
(Incorrect strattland)
Grace: would you still love me if I was a worm?
Stratt: No.
Grace: I- what the fudge?? Stratt you’re supposed to say yes!!
Stratt, turning the page of her newspaper: Why would I feel affection for a worm? They have their place in the ecosystem, but I hold no love for them.
Grace: But the worm is me!!
Stratt: Worms are incapable of hosting human consciousness. Regardless whether you were always a worm or transfigured, you would no longer be yourself.
Grace: But that’s not the point! Stratt you’re supposed to-
Stratt: I would put you on the garden compost heap. Happy?
Grace: No! No im not happy! Stratttt-
Stratt *deep sigh*: I will make you a little worm house and feed you kitchen scraps. Happy now?
Grace: … yes.
I've had another fic idea stuck in my head
Do I ship Strattland? No, not really, they'll always be a weird third thing in my heart
Do I hate the accidentally baby trope? Yes, yes I do
But I need a fic of Eva and Grace maybe having a drunk hookup one night, and they think everything is fine, but a few weeks after the Hail Mary launch Eva finds out she's pregnant, she knows exactly who's it is, a small piece of Grace stays on earth after all
And I need the angst of the baby growing up and all Eva can see is Grace. The child looks most like Eva, but they have Grace's nose, their hair is always slightly messy like his, they smile the same
And it's always the small things
Like the love for sweets, how they enjoy their coffee, how they can make fast friends with anyone, how they're slightly awkward yet sarcastic and charming all the same, their love for all things science
They even had their own crash out moment where they called someone a "Useless lump of cells", the apple never falls far from it's tree
And it hurts everyone who knew Grace. To look at this child that looks like their mother, but is so achingly similar to their father
And I need Eva to hurt knowing that Grace will never know he had a kid, that she can't look at her kid wearing a science pun shirt for too long otherwise she tears up, who has a complicated relationship with them, she loves them so much, but she also keeps seeing the ghost of someone else
Anyway, I need that hurt no comfort fic
