the scene where Dave is starting to shut HAL down and HAL just keeps repeating “Will you stop, Dave? Stop.” in his calm, neutral, robotic voice.. it has my cnc heart fluttering. like ooobviously Dave is ‘killing’ him… but i can’t help imagine a very similar scene that would play out very differently, where Dave is fucking around with HAL’s most sensitive circuits and whatnot (i know jackshit about computers) and HAL is panicking because it feels good but it wasn’t made to feel things like this!!!!
