I’ve done about two grad student panels (advice for undergrads type thing) and they actually typically go really well but I’m always terrified because when people ask me about “grad school advice” all I can usually think of is
1. You’re gonna want a pet 2. You’re gonna want a hobby. 3. You’re gonna want a sport.
Which isn’t bad advice but really not all that specific.
Anyway, might do another upcoming panel so of course this has been on my mind.
Tell me your pet/hobbies/sports for grad school! Are any of them new? Mine are
1. My cat Wednesday, who I have had for as long as I’ve been here. 2. Knitting. Some sewing but I’ve been sleeping on that. Repainting ruined toys from Goodwill. 3. Ice Skating
1. My cat Atiko
2. Pole Dance Competitions
3. Pole Dance
Sifting through the library’s basement stacks, the grad student cannot tell whether the musty smell is from the old books or his withering soul.
Feeling no less confined after coming to a spacious coffee shop, the grad student confronts the reality that his work is his prison.
Exercising on the treadmill, the grad student is well-trained to feel exhausted while going nowhere.
Suffering from writer’s block, the grad student stares at a screen as empty as his hopes and dreams.
