Chapter 6

Synopsis: Y/n finds herself unhappy in life, mostly at her job until she gets an opportunity to follow her lifelong dream of acting. She finds herself landing a role in Squid Game season 2, working alongside a crush she had while growing up – Choi Seung-Hyun (T.O.P). Starting out as friends, y/n and Seung-Hyung soon realise they mean more to each other than they originally expected.

You were used to people staring at you both at work recently, partly because of who Seung-Hyun was, and partly because of the gossip going around that you are now dating. But the stares that you were getting this morning were different. It was the Monday morning after the party last Friday, and it was the first time seeing everyone after Seung-Hyun punched Ha-jun in front of the whole cast and crew. “People are staring at us babe” you whispered to him, squeezing his hand as a form of comfort and support. He squeezed your hand back and just shrugged – “Are they? Didn’t notice. Just ignore them princess.” But something didn’t feel right. They weren’t staring like they normally would - like they were curious. Instead it was like they were scared, or like they knew something you didn’t. You had a bad feeling in your stomach which was starting to make your heart race. “Hyun...” You squeezed his hand again, and he looked down at you this time. “What is it baby?” he sounded concerned now. “It’s just that people are looking at us weirdly. Something doesn’t feel right.” While still holding your hand, he had a look around him at the people on set – as he made eye contact with some of them, they quickly looked away. He looked back at you tight-lipped and with his eyebrows scrunched together, a look of concern and knowing displayed on his face. He opened his mouth to say something to you but before he had the chance, someone called his name – “Choi Seung-Hyun!” You both turned at the same time to see a very angry-looking director Hwang walking towards you both with a man you didn’t recognise.

Once Director Hwang and the other man made their way in front of you both, Seung-Hyun greeted them with a small smile and nod – speaking to them in Korean. Director Hwang seemed quite animated compared to how he usually spoke, hands flailing around, voice slightly raised - whereas the man next to him seemed calmer, even putting his hand on Hwang’s shoulder as if to try and calm him. After a few, more calmer exchanges, Seung-Hyun turned to you – “I have to go into a meeting with Director Hwang and Mr Kim. Go wait for me in the trailer, I won’t be long.” You could tell that he was worried but trying to hide it from you. “What for? Is this about Friday night?” he confirmed with a nod. “Well, I’m coming with you then” – “No baby, there’s no need for that. Just go and relax, I’ll just be a few minutes, just need to discuss what happened with Director Hwang and HR.” Your eyes widened, looking at Mr Kim, who you now knew was in HR – “No. If they are going to speak to you, then they need to speak with all the witnesses there that night. And that includes me.” You were actually more angry than worried at this point. Why would Director Hwang be so angry towards Seung-Hyun when all he did was protect you? If anyone needed to get into trouble, it should be Ha-jun. Seung-Hyun looked at you with a hint of pride and turned back to the men as if asking for their approval, which they gave with a quick nod.

Once you all sat down in Director Hwang’s office, you were surprised that both men actually spoke in English most of the time. It was explained that Ha-jun filed an official complaint with HR, stating that Seung-Hyun punched him at the party, breaking his nose, and that it was a completely unprovoked attack. You laughed in disbelief - “You really think Seung-Hyun would do something like that? You seriously don’t know him at all do you?!” You shouted at Director Hwang - he looked shocked at the way you spoke to him but then appeared to be defeated. “I have other cast and crew members who confirmed that Seung-Hyun punched him and then proceeded to threaten Ha-jun. What else can I think?” You looked at Seung-Hyun - he was just looking down at his lap like a school boy that got in trouble with the principal. You were waiting for him to defend himself, but he didn’t - so you did instead. “They must have only seen the aftermath – there was cast members there who saw and heard the whole thing, go speak to them. Please. All Seung-Hyun did was protect me.” You then proceeded to explain everything that happened that night and also how Ha-jun was behaving when you all went out to dinner a few weeks ago. You explained that Ha-jun kept putting his hands on you and also shouted profanities at you, which then led to the altercation. Mr Kim agreed to try to get the statements from everyone who was there, but he couldn’t force people to come forward. Turned out that Mr Kim didn’t even have to do any leg work, as by the end of the day, more than ten eyewitnesses came forward and reported the real situation to Mr Kim, leading to Ha-jun being fired on the spot. To say that Seung-Hyun was grateful for you stepping in would be an understatement.

The rest of the week passed by in a blur, and before you knew it, it was yours and Seung-Hyun’s last week of filming. I’ve had so much fun that I don’t want it to end.” – “I know baby. But we’ll still get to see everyone again at reunion dinners and promotional events – plus, you’ll probably get asked to join another show after this.” You let out a deep sign – “Yeah, I know. It’s still sad though. But at least I’ll get some flowers after my death scene” you joked. “You like flowers that much that it’s enough to make you feel better over your death?” he joked with you – “I love flowers! No one has ever given me flowers before so I'm excited about it” he looked at you like you grown a second head – “No one has ever bought you flowers before?” You shook your head as confirmation. “Hmm I guess I don’t blame you for looking forward to it then” he joked again.

The morning of your death scene arrived and you were both in your room getting ready for work after spending the night there. You were nearly starting to run late as Seung-Hyun left in the morning to grab some coffee and tea for you both and had apparently ran into a very large queue to get your drinks. Just as you got into the lift, Seung-Hyun pressed the button to go up to his room instead of the lobby. “Did you forget something babe” you asked while giving him a puzzled look. “Oh, yeah I...forgot my jacket” – “You’re wearing your jacket” “Oh yeah...Ermm....my other jacket! You always steal mine so I need an extra one.” You didn’t quite believe him but decided not to question him further. You got to his room and he buzzed his key card to open the door, motioning for you to walk ahead of him. As you entered the dark room, Seung-Hyun flipped the lights on only to reveal his whole room filled with bouquets of different flowers – to name a few, there were peonies, orchids, tulips, lilies and of course, roses. It was like you stepped into the most beautiful garden you’ve ever seen. You turned around to face him – tears in your eyes – “You did this for me? You bought me flowers?” you hugged him tightly. He returned the hug, gently soothing your back up and down until he pulled back slightly. “Of course I bought you flowers. I couldn’t let director Hwang be the first person EVER to buy MY girl some flowers, could I?” you couldn’t help but laugh, kissing him again as tears rolled down your cheeks. “I love you so much. Thank you, Hyun.” – “I love you too my princess” he softly said to you, wiping your tears away with his thumbs.

By the end of the day, you were exhausted. Your final scene was filmed – unfortunately your character got caught in the same bathroom fight as Thanos and died trying to protect him. The flowers you and Seung-Hyun were given by director Hwang were beautiful too, but not nearly as beautiful as the ones Seung-Hyun got for you – you could clearly tell them apart when you placed them in Seung-Hyun’s room next to all your other flowers. You spent your last night at the hotel packing all your belongings as you were both leaving to go back home tomorrow morning. Luckily, Seung-Hyun already thought ahead and had scheduled for someone to come pick up your flowers after you leave the hotel for them to be delivered to his house so you could enjoy them.

Six months passed and you and Seung-Hyun were still going strong. Yes, you had small arguments, sometimes because you’d leave your makeup on the bathroom sink, sometimes because Seung-Hyun got into one of his moods and go MIA on you, but you would both still always end the day wrapped up in each other’s arms, never going to sleep angry with each other, both of you whispering “Sorry” and “I love you” until sleep took you.

On the 26th December, you had invited your closest friends and some of the Squid Game cast to the penthouse to watch the show being aired for the first time. The night was filled with laughter until everyone eventually fell asleep, either on the sofa, on in one of your spare rooms.

You stuck by him through all of the hardship that came along with him being in the spotlight again, holding him while he silently cried on your shoulder, expressing his frustration that whatever he did never seemed to be good enough, that it felt like the media was always against him, never letting him forget his past. It all lead him to cancel the release of his album, which he was planning on releasing in January 2025. Due to the backlash, he initially he even refused to attend promotional events, scared of what would come out of it, but you managed to convince him that it was not about the media, it was about his fans, who he dearly loved, and most of all, about him - about clearing his name and speaking his own truth, and that facing the critics head-on would be good for him.

He was glad he took your advise, because it only went up from there, being called to be interviewed by many different media outlets, both in Korea, and in America. He welcomed the American media, but was very selective who he would let interview him in Korea. After all, he still couldn’t forget the way they treated him throughout the years. Although at first he refused, he eventually accepted the offer to represent Squid Game at the Netflix Tudum event in America. You went along with him and watched him on stage and you were so proud of him, and he was so overwhelmed with the love and support he received attending the event, that he finally decided to start preparing to release his album again. But he had a plan.

It wasn’t going to be a quick announcement and just drop the album, no. He wanted to take his time, wanted to merely post teasers monthly, wringing out the fake fans until he knew only the most loyal ones were left, still waiting for him. But most importantly, there was something else he wanted to do first, before the official release.

“Where are you taking me Hyun?” you questioned him for the third time, holding his arms while he was covering your eyes with his hands and guiding each step you took forward. He didn’t answer your question - “Do you trust me?” “Of course I trust you babe, but you’re making me nervous” you giggled. He let out a chuckle, and finally stopped you from walking further. He took a deep breath – “OK. You ready?” “Yes Hyun, please can you uncover my eyes now??” he slowly lowered his hands, your eyes adjusting to the lights around you. You were on a roof top, the city all around you, fairy lights and flowers everywhere. As you looked around in awe, you noticed a small table right in the centre, two chairs around it and a bottle of champagne chilling in a cooler. You turned to face him and found him looking at you expectantly - “You like?” he asked with a nervous smile on his lips. You leaned up and softly kissed his lips - “No, babe. I LOVE” he smiled at your response, “Happy two year anniversary princess” he said as he returned the kiss but slightly harder until you were both smiling against each other’s lips. He pulled back again – “Just one more thing before we eat.” he laced his hands with yours and walked you close to the railing, turning to face you again.

As you looked up at him, and he was looking down at you, you could tell that he was nervous. His breathing was slightly heavier, and he had a slight shine on his upper lip and temples, despite the cool air. You’ve never seen him like this before and you were nervous too now, your heart was racing in anticipation for what you thought this was – what you thought he was about to do - what you were hoping he was about to do. “Princess. Since the first day I met you, I knew you were different. My heart literally skipped a beat as soon as I laid my eyes on you - I didn’t even know that was possible. Everything about you captivated me. Your smile, your laugh, your beauty, your intelligence, your kindness, your strength....everything. You’re perfect baby. Even the way you pick at your nails when your nervous” he laughed – “Just like your doing right now” he pointed out, making you laugh with him despite the tears that were already falling from your eyes. “I knew that you were special. I knew that I loved you even before our first kiss. You’re my best friend, and you’ve stuck by me through all the shit I’ve got through recently, even when I became distant with you, which I regret so much baby. You never left my side, pulling me out of the dark corners of my mind when I felt like I was drowning” your eyes were a waterfall now, he let go of your shaking hands only to bring them up to your face, wiping away your tears. He gave you a kiss on both cheeks, then your forehead, then your nose, until he finally kissed your lips. He pulled back and took out a small velvet box from the inside of his suit jacket and lowered himself on to one knee in front of you, opening the box up – “Y/N/L/N...I love you with all of my heart and more. Will you please do me the honour of becoming my wife?” You never took your eyes off of him, not to even look at the ring, you couldn’t care less about that – you just wanted him. “Of course I’ll marry you Hyun, I love you.” you cried. He had the biggest smile on his face, his own tears now rolling down his cheeks as he got up and lifted you up into a tight hug then lowering you down, kissing you all over your face as you both laughed.

Within a month, you were already married. Only a few people attended the private event. You managed to keep it out of the media completely and you both had no intention of announcing it either. It was your lives and no one else’s. Seung-Hyun had finally started to release the little album teasers on Instagram, each one slowly, slowly leading up to what would be the final post – the official album release date. You on the other hand had just got accepted for a lead role in a famous Korean detective show. You were both nervous about what was to come, but you knew that it would be one hell of a year, especially for Seung-Hyun. But you took it day by day, relying on one another and coming home every night, talking and laughing the night away on the balcony of your shared penthouse, just like you used to do on the hotel balcony when you first met. Except this time, with your hands intertwined, and as husband and wife.

Additional notes: Some warnings may not be relevant to this chapter as they cover the story in its entirety. The reader is English, with blonde hair and blue eyes but can be read by anyone really. So, this one is full of smut (finally) and I hope it is good and worth the wait. Took me a while to write it – I actually had it ready by chapter 2 but kept re-reading and re-writing (first-time writer here) so I hope you enjoy it and that I didn’t make any silly mistakes. The story will soon come to an end within the next few chapters (I think.) The plan was to have a total of 5 chapters because I like stuff to be in 5s, but it does seem to be working out that way because I have written too much for the next chapter and the word count compared to other chapters is annoying me.

“Y/n? Are you up? Open the door” someone urgently called in from outside your hotel room. “Hyun?!” You quickly opened the door, and as soon as you did, he stormed straight in, closing the door behind him, leaning his back against it once it was closed. He sounded out of breath, like he had run here. “What’s wrong Hyun? Why are you here so late?” you asked him, worried something was wrong. “I need to tell you something.” He said as he pushed himself off the door, taking a few steps closer to you. “You need to tell me something? Tell me what?” you were utterly confused now. He stepped even closer to you, basically towering over you now. “I heard the director” he whispered, staring into your eyes. You were so entranced by his eyes, how close he was to you now, and by how good he smelt, that you couldn’t understand what he was talking about “Heard the director say what?” you whispered back. He took a deep breath and exhaled “Cut,” as if he had been holding this secret in for days - “I heard him say cut the first time but I didn’t want to stop. I couldn’t” he confessed. You were speechless. He brought his hands up to you, cradling your face with his large hands, stroking your cheeks with his thumbs. “I’ve wanted to kiss you for so long y/n. Since the first day I met you, but I didn’t want to ruin what we have. You became my best friend, and I didn’t want to fuck that up by making a move on you when I didn’t think you felt the same way.” He said while shaking his head, one hand moved to your hip, pulling you closer to him while the other still stroked your cheek. “But when I was kissing you today, it felt so right, and I think you felt it too. I’ve wanted to kiss you for so long, so when Hwang said cut, I pretended not to hear him just so I could keep kissing you, even if that meant for just a minute longer.” He was so close to you now – your chests practically touching.

His eyes kept flickering from your eyes to your lips, then back up again and his hand on your hip started slowly making its way back up your body, settling on the side of your neck. His hands were large enough for his thumb to be under the side of your jaw, while his other fingers were at the back of your neck. Your hands were on his body too now, one on his hip while the other was flat against his chest, directly above his heart, and you could feel how fast his heart was beating. “There’s something else I need to tell you” he said, as he stopped caressing your cheek – “This wasn’t an accident” – Using his thumb, he started tracing the hickey he left on you earlier, tilting your neck slightly one way with his hand, and his head the opposite way to get a good look at his work. “I meant to leave it there. I couldn’t help it”. He then slowly moved to the other side of your neck and leaned in so close his lips were brushing your skin just below your jaw “Wanted to leave one here too.” He quietly said as he placed an open, lingering kiss to your neck – the kiss was so soft you barely felt it. “Would you let me?” he whispered against your neck, placing another soft kiss just below your ear, sending a shiver straight down your spine – goose bumps forming on your neck where he just kissed you, which he noticed. “I think you would.” He whispered again in your ear before continuing to kiss your neck, slightly harder this time. With the way he was whispering in your ear and kissing your neck, all you could do was let out a small whimper of his name. That seemed to be the permission Seung-Hyun was after as he now started backing you up towards the wall while peppering your neck with harder, open-mouthed kisses. Your hands flew up to the back of his neck, pulling slightly on the short hair there “Mmmm. I love it when you pull my hair” he groaned into your neck – your back hitting the wall with a soft thud. He pulled away, looking at you again – “And with the way you were shaking in my arms today, I think you wanted and enjoyed today as much as I did.” His hands were running up and down your body with a bit more urgency now – “And when you moaned my name in my ear? You have no fucking idea what you did to me. I haven’t been able to get your voice out of my head since then.” With his lips now hovering over your ear again, he whispered, his voice rough and deep – “I just wished no one else was there so I could have actually fucked you.” At that, you gasped his name loudly in his ear, and that’s all it took for him to lose control, pulling his head back from your ear, he groaned again and crashed his lips to yours, finally kissed you without a script telling him to do so. Last night meant everything to me, and I meant what I said when I told you I love you. I may not have realised it straight away and I may have tried to ignore how I felt in the begining by pushing you away, but I do. I love you. So no, I would never sneak out on you. I went to get us something for breakfast, baby.” You looked up at him with so much love and gratitude that he couldn’t help but feel his heart melt a bit as he looked down at you - your big, blue, doe eyes, and cute little freckles, he just had to kiss you. The taxi to the set was very different compared to the previous times you and Seung-Hyun shared a ride, you were both sitting so close to each other that you basically could have been in each other’s laps. You laughed, like actually laughed. “No way in hell am I embarrassed to be seen with you, that’s for sure. But aren’t you worried about what people will say? Isn’t it unprofessional?”. “Princess, firstly, loads of actors who work together and are in relationships don’t bother concealing the fact that they are dating, and secondly, I have waited a really long time to be able to show everyone here that you’re mine. Like really mine. So, yes, I want to go in there holding my girl’s hand. Is that OK with you?” he finished off the sentence by giving you a kiss on the lips, holding you close. You blushed at his words and smiled against his lips - “mmm OK. When you put it that way, I guess we should be OK then”. He smiled down at you one last time and started walking with you into the set, tightly holding your hand.

Once you arrived at your usual table in the cafeteria, the other cast members noticed straight away. He clearly didn’t even attempt to conceal it. Seung-Hyun was about to reply when Jae-won spoke over him ‘ “What about you, y/n? What’s that all over your neck?” he chuckled out while pointing towards the hickey and small bite mark on your neck. Before you could even reply, Seung-Hyun finally spoke up – “Oh I did that”. He said it like it was something to be proud of, chest puffed out at all. But with the look you gave him of sheer embarrassment, he quickly added on – “Y/n and I were filming a scene yesterday” he stuttered, “which involved a lot of....passion.” he nodded his head at the end like he was convinced that was actually believable. Everyone else just smiled and looked at him like they were humouring his little lie of a story. After breakfast, you both had some time to kill before you were needed to re-shoot some parts of your sex scene. Apparently, the director said that there were certain parts which seemed “too intimate” for two players who don’t know each other and just wanted a quick fuck – so you and Seung-Hyun headed to his trailer as usual. Throughout the night, you both stayed close, mingling with people you wouldn’t always have the opportunity to talk to, and also staying within your little bubble of cast mates you have now grown to care about. Seung-Hyun was mid-conversation with Jae-won when you realised that your drinks were nearly empty. “I’m going to get us another drink” you said to Seung-Hyun, giving his hip a slight affectionate squeeze. “Thank you princess” he said, leaning down and kissing your cheek. “Do you want anything, Jae-won” you asked. “No, thanks y/n” he replied with a nod of appreciation, smiling at the small display of affection he just witnessed. You got to the crowded open bar, and as you were waiting, you felt someone put their hand around your waist. By the feel of the person, you knew that it definitely was not Seung-Hyun.

You turned around and as soon as you found Ha-jun right in front of you, you instantly pushed his hands off of you. “Ohh come on sweetheart” he whined while trying to grab your waist again. You cringed at the nickname and how annoying he sounded whining out the words. “Stop it please Ha-jun. I’m not interested” you said as you turned your back to him, waiting to be served. The music was loud enough that at least the whole room didn’t hear the shouting – but people around you did, including Ae-sim. She looked panicked. Ha-jun spoke up again, this time in anger – “Don’t fucking touch me Ho-yeon, this is none of your business. I just want to spend some time alone with y/n here for a bit” he gave you a sleazy smile, reaching out for your arm – “Don’t fucking touch her” said a deep voice from behind you. You knew who it was before you even turned around. Seung-Hyun was standing there, jaw clenched so hard it was probably hurting his teeth. Hiding behind him was Ae-sim – she must have snuck away to get him. Han-jun clearly had a lot to drink tonight, as he stupidly told Seung-Hyun to fuck off – “This has nothing to do with you! Always getting in the way. She’s not yours, leave us alone – she wants me” he slurred out. You could see the rage in Seung-Hyun’s eyes and saw how he was close to snapping, so you quickly stepped in front of him, placing your hands on his chest “Hyun. Baby... look at me” he forced himself to look away from Ha-jun from over your shoulder. “Ignore him babe – he’s just drunk. Why would you do that? They could have sued you! And won!”. Chuckling at your reaction- “Yeah, they definitely would have won. But I knew they wouldn’t want to go through the hassle of recasting, reshooting AND suing me over a few amendments to a scene. So I called their bluff. It worked, didn’t it?” he laughed. “Oh my God babe you’re crazy. I can’t believe you risked that for me”. He kissed you, lips slowly moving against yours – “It was worth the risk. Couldn’t have you doing something you didn’t want to do baby” You smiled at him, fingers tracing his jaw, “Thank you Hyun.” You snuggled into his chest, feeling like the luckiest girl in the world, while he felt like the luckiest man, both of you cuddling each other until you both fell asleep.
