LawLu: “We don’t need kisses to prove our chemistry” edition
ok this isnt what i usually post but im jsut confused bc?? i dont understand lawlu??? like i just dont get it ig? im not going to kill a man over someone shipping it but at the same im im hearing a lot of people say the age gap is problematic and since their first real conversation was when luffy was in a very vulnerable state its kind of proshippy so i tend to not interact with the content cuz idk whats happening with that but i also just dont understand it? like this is a genuine question whats the appeal
There's a lot of reasons. But generally it's that Law seems fond of Luffy despite constant getting psychic damage from his Luffyness. And honestly, that psychic damage is incredibly important. Not just because of Brooding/Sunshine but to even out the emotional power imbalance.
The thing about Luffy is that he does what he wants. Period. If he doesn't want to fuck you, he won't. And if anyone tried to make him he'd kick their ass. "But what if he was tricked-" remember when he was tricked into a mine and then punched through a mountain to get out? Luffy is perfectly capable of throwing would-be molesters through an actual wall, regardless of how strong *they* are.
I (personally) haven't seen a single fic where Law is the knowledgeable older mentor leading a newbie through the ropes. He is constantly on his back foot trying to deal with a chaos gremlin trying to make him have fun.
It's a bit of Grumpy/Sunshine, a little Manic Pixie Dream Girl, some Give This Guy a Break, a bit Law is just hot, and a lot of repeating that expression he has when they tie Chopper to his hat.
It's also appealing to people who think fucking your subordinates to depend on you is worse than two thematic equals who are both adults consenting to it. I don't actually have a problem with either. ZoLu is adorable, and I have ideas about a ZoLuSan in the works. But it is, technically, problematic and a major squick for some people. Not that pirates care about being problematic.
Also that’s not their first real conversation.
In fact it’s likely they didn’t even talk when Luffy was so vulnerable. It was Jinbei talking to Luffy.
Law only cared for him mostly.
The first conversation / interaction is them fighting together after Luffy took down a Tenryubito which is kind of telling every sane person that luffy is no joke to deal with and will do what the hell he wants and if it is bringing the whole marine against him.
Next real real conversation one on one they have is the forming the alliance. Which btw luffy instantly turned around too.
Law noticed the next moment that Luffy won’t just do as he wants him too when they put Chopper on his head to carry him lol.
Also when Luffy says he want to take down all yonko anyway (just not shanks first)
It’s also Luffy who turns Law’s whole dressrosa plan around.
Law went alone. Why? Because he thought he would die. Luffy didn’t let him cancel their alliance and die. Luffy dragged him along.
And honestly reading the Law novel it’s even more obviously Law that’s following Luffy.
Because Luffy is the freedom that Law is seeking to find.
what do you mean it didn’t go this way,
So beautiful 💖 I just love pencil drawings.

Barbecue
Many people do it in the summer, ok, the die-hards also do it in the winter, the barbecue. This word actually has a maritime background. The name is derived from the French term boucanier, which means "meat smoker", and this in turn from the Spanish barboka, "to cook over a grill".
The Buccaneer was a Picturesque Fellow: illustration of a pirate, dressed to the nines in piracy attire. By Howard Pyle, 1905
The Arawak, people of the Caribbean, used this term to describe a type of grill on which they smoked meat (preferably manatees) over a small flame with green wood. The buccaneers during the 17th century had adopted this type of grilling for the wild pigs they hunted on the coasts before moving on to bigger catches at sea.
The innocent and enjoyable pastime of barbecuing in one's own garden therefore has some roots in the bloody history of piracy in the Caribbean.
