YOU NEVER NEEDED TO FIT IN
Today is April 2nd, World Autism Awareness Day!
I always felt like a different child from the others when I was younger, I was always... in my own world... The children would call me to play... I would go, but I never felt that connection with the play, I didn't really understand what it was, why this emptiness?
Sometimes I had strange impulses... I wanted to... swing, I wanted to spin as if I were playing right there and then, but I held back... It wasn't what a "normal person" would do.
At school, I was always very advanced in other areas, but in math I never was, I wasn't good enough at math, it made me feel bad, "math is easy," "it's just counting."
They explained and explained and I couldn't retain the information in my head, the years passed, I got older, but I still couldn't understand what was wrong with me. The light hurt me, my ears felt like they were being pierced, and someone who should have helped me said, "Why are you crying? It's not even that noisy."
It was like that every day, after I got off the crowded bus, I walked home, lay down on the living room floor, and wondered why this was happening. I was tired, very tired of wondering why this was happening.
And then... When I was in the middle of my second year of high school, I received my diagnosis.
Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1, and ADHD
After all this, it all made sense. I wasn't a problem, I was just a little different, and that was okay.
I am a person with a late diagnosis.
And I'm not yet undergoing treatment. If you suspect any kind of condition, get tested; it can help you a lot.
A big hug from your friend, Max :]
