Actually life is beautiful because the sound I make while trying to breathe around hot food sounds like my dog trying to eat an apple. When I yawn my cat tries to put his face in my mouth like a little dentist man and when he yawns I put my finger in his obligate-carnivore trapzone and we both know he will not hurt me. When I do not fold my clothes, they do not hold it against me.

I am demonstrably sad, and lonely, and full of fear. But there are other people who will hold my hand, who will point out the hawk overhead, who will give you That Look in a public place. The other day at a coffee shop a child said “look! It’s snowing!” so all of us strangers went to go look out the windows. It wasn’t the first snow and it won’t be the last but wasn’t it lovely, like that?

How wonderful to live in a world where birds and frogs both say beep! How wonderful to have an ocean of beautiful sharks with their dinosaur teeth! How wonderful the moon and her changing face, how wonderful the bees and their dancing to communicate, how wonderful shrimp and their forbidden layers of vision! How wonderful, you, and what you will give the world! The way we love things enough to spend entire blogs devoted to them? How people will let me explain my Pokemon team to them? Weekly reading for 23rd-29th of April

You are in a transition period. Old things, patterns, places and people may start to fall away. Are you finding yourself losing friends? Losing grip under your feet? Or perhaps you are facing a lot of uncertainty about what’s ahead? Do not worry. Your change is a beautiful and positive one. You are a phoenix rising from your own ashes. Make note of any emotions or triggers that come up. Perhaps childhood traumas that you haven’t thought of in a long time. They are coming up to be cleared, so allow them to rise to the surface, and have love and compassion for yourself as you let them go, so that you can enter into your new life baggage-free. You deserve this pain-free life. The king of pentacles in reverse symbolises a controlling, domineering male energy. For some of you this could be you trying and failing to regain control in these times of change. This is futile. Surrender to the changes and know that they lead to happiness and a better life, or maybe a better you. Do not cling to your old ways. Other patterns you might be letting go of right now are possessiveness, greed, laziness, fears of instability and financial insecurity. This card can also suggest that if you have been feeling stuck in your life (especially financially) this period can bring an end to your struggles providing that you are willing to surrender to the changes, trust the universe and let go of negative patterns of thinking and behaviour. For many of you this card could symbolise a man in your life who has somehow controlled or abused you in the past. The pain and anger associated with these memories may feel next to impossible for you to deal with, but you are strong enough to leave your past behind and step into your new life. Also, can you say to yourself “I messed up” and expect loving compassion and support? Or will you be met with harshness or a lack of acceptance and self-love? That little boy/ little girl is still alive within you. Do not tell yourself anything that you would not say to a 5year old you, because that part of you is still there, scared and misunderstood. Love yourself, accept yourself. Scoop your inner child up in your arms and never let them go. Find your deepest, darkest wounds and give them so much unconditional love that they have no choice but to heal. Be your own parent, be your own best friend. Nurture yourself back to health.

What kind of love do you want? I’ll tell you what kind of love you deserve. The kind that makes it harder to go to sleep at night but easier to wake up in the morning. The type that makes you feel safe, secure, and good about yourself. The kind of love that you never have to question, chase after or try to “fit in” for. You deserve someone who will sweep you off your feet and who you know for sure is absolutely, unquestionably crazy about you. This kind of love never has to be chased after, and this kind of person will never make you feel jealous or insecure, or like you have to work for their love and attention. In love, giving is natural and free. I am not talking about not putting in the effort. It’s just that in love, effort does not feel like effort at all. You WANT to give, and you never feel like you have to work to be deserving to receive. I see a lot of jealousy, insecurity and a lack of belief in yourself. If you are single right now you might benefit from looking at old patterns in your relationships and deciding right now what you are willing/ not willing to tolerate. I love it when a spread is reflective of itself (for no reason other than it being really cool) and this is one of those times. If Adjustment stands for the balance of contrasts and action from introspection and wisdom, but also a suspension of action, then what better way to present it as than the reversed Change (two of disks) and the Prince of Swords? Excuse the inner geek. The message for today is short and sweet, and quite literal. What Adjustments are required for Change to occur? The Prince of Swords is intellectual, opinionated and quick-witted. He loves a good debate and scientific research. That is the energy that would be beneficial to cultivate in yourself today. He is riding a chariot, but when you look from a different perspective it looks like he has his sword raised ready to cut some cords. Oh, how wonderful. Cut the bullshit! Whether that means cutting away unnecessary obligations that are weighing you down, cutting away toxic thoughts, certain HABITS (!) that are getting in the way of you getting stuff done… Snip snip, mf. Do it. Cut it off. Maybe you won’t have your dream job, dream house, dream body or dream partner by tomorrow. But what adjustments can you make today that will bring you one step closer to your dreams? How can you facilitate change? Ruin breeds creation. Just as Rome was burning under the emperor Nero, who then used this newfound space to build himself a “palace worthy of the gods”, so you can burn and start anew. My favourite quote from the creator of this deck is “die daily”. Don’t be afraid to change. Whether it’s about changing your mind, your beliefs or your character, do not be rigid in your ways. What a wonderful concept for the first week of the new year! We also had the full moon in Cancer on the 1st of January, a watery, lunar energy, inviting us to loosen (or let go completely of) any constraints that we may have put upon ourselves. The ruin card, just as the Death card, can invoke a lot of fear. What does ruin mean to you at this time? A ruin of plans? Of your own self-perception? Maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. It is only when you let go of limiting perceptions about who you are, that you can become something much greater. So what area of your life, or yourself can you allow to “die”, to fall away? What doesn’t feel right anymore? Where can you allow yourself to become less rigid? Look at the princess of cups, how unconstrained and free she is. This could be you, if you are brave enough to LET GO, trust the universe, and flow with the current of life. The Star has got the be my favourite card in the whole entire deck, and you can probably see why. Not only is it absolutely stunning, the message it brings it that of hope, renewal, a bright future ahead.
