Happy Pride Month everyone! Remember 4 months ago when the CEO of this platform harassed and chased a trans woman off this website just for posting her transition timeline, then chased her to other social media platforms to continue harassing her, and threatened to call the FBI if she continued disputing the multiple dubious terminations of her blogs that did not violate tumblr's terms of service in any way? And despite tumblr staff insisting that the CEO was acting against their interests, the broad transmisogyny evident in the site's culture and moderation policy has still not been adequately addressed?
Remember that staff is continuing to nuke the blogs of trans women even after all of this. Remember this post when they call this site the queerest place on the internet again this month
holy half assed ending. it's been a couple years since i finished the show and i am still upset about it. yes the crossover episodes were so cool and that storyline was so awesome. COULD THEY NOT HAVE ADDED ONE SINGULAR MORE EPISODE. EVEN A FEW MINUTES. FOR SOME GODDAMN RESOLUTION. ohhhhmygod. we spent. five whole entire human years of real time. developing a story that was supposed to be very eloquent and nuanced and that would age with the audience. we watched romance and death and grief and war and strife and then.... it just.... ended.....?????
i don't know all the circumstances here. i know that sometimes shows get cancelled and people get laid off and there's not a whole lot you can do about it. but they HHHHADD to know that the show was going to end soon. and instead of going out on a good note that would tie up the loose ends and give us some literary resolution and serve as a true farewell to such an eternally beloved series... all we got was a dogshit joke and a physically painful anticlimactic ending. i will literally never ever forget the shock and horror i experienced. they had to have been so sick and tired of this show because how does this become this. you know what i mean????
i know i'm ranting about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles not having a beautiful cinematic ending but seriously cmon guys be real rn
my fave baron draxum fact is that he said he used turtles specifically because they were so built for defence so if he mixed them with lou jitsuโs offensive strength he would have a grand army. makes sense, right? but then you look at donnie. he specifically chose a spiny softshell. a turtle that isnโt built for defence like, at all. it has a soft shell. and you look at this and your first thought is oh ok plot hole itโs a kids show whatever. and i say no. when you look at it like itโs purposeful the actual reason is so much funnier. spiny softshells are one of the most aggressive breeds of turtles and will bite if given the chance to. they also have a decently powerful bite. baron draxum chose 3 turtles specifically for defence and then also decided to choose 1 guy specifically to just be feral and chow down. assigned violent at birth.
TMNT 2012, ROTTMNT AND MUTANT MAYHEM SPOILERS AHEAD!!
what i'd like to see in plot:
someone that dies and doesn't come back. 2k12 tried it with splinter, but they ultimately caved and brought him back after the whole space storyline. it's good to have aspects of the show that age with your audience; someone who watched first when they were 10 would be an early teenager by that point and able to handle that level of emotion. they just had bounds that couldn't be crossed.
i'd like to see a donnie that REALLY leans into the Mad Scientist trope. there have been some drabbles throughout ROTTMNT especially, but it never went much further than "URANIUM!!!! :P" let. bro. get. crazy. he ALMOST killed somebody in 2k12, but was stopped. (2k12 also seemed to have a lot of weird rules involving death and gore and such) let donnie go fuckin nuts just once ok!!!!
real emotional turmoil that isn't immediately resolved within the episode nor is it still carrying a funny undertone
explicit mentions of queerness, non-whiteness, and disabilities. it'd be cool for a turtle to fall in love in a way that's not just comedic; it'd be cool to see the social implications and possible injustices of mutants joining human society and fulfilling a niche of their own; it'd be cool for, say, donnie to have explicitly mentioned autism that really chronically disables him. shit like that is more emotionally charged and is going to hit harder for a more mature viewer
when the turtles get in fights, their injuries create lasting scars and disabilities (also a design thing). in 2k12 leo probably should have been out of commission for way longer if not forever; that would have been a devastating and developmental story arc for the leader to give way and the others to have no choice but to lead themselves as a trio. only leo's injuries in that season were more of a convenient way to accomodate his VA change and so it didn't last very long afterwards.
obviously cursing and crude humor and maybe a little substance use, but not so much that it becomes excessive and unfunny. we're going for like a Smiling Friends, not a Helluvaboss.
^ also "tmnt fans" who would be mad about """wokeness""" in an ADULT ITERATION that is MARKETED TOWARDS ADULTS WITH LIFE EXPERIENCES can go suck a lemon
what i'd like to see in design:
as mentioned above, scars and wounds
clothing and shoes and gear and such
turtles that actually look like turtles (complex designs with patterns and anatomy and such; a lot easier if you're working with 3D like the bayverse films or stop motion which hasn't been done with TMNT yet to my knowledge......!!!!) (also 5 fingers, both humans and turtles have 5 fingers WHY DON'T THEY HAVE 5 FINGERS??? they also should have webbings and claws and so forth)
blended personal and Japanese cultural styles when it comes to clothing
especially if it's 3D or stop motion, make it GOOD QUALITY! i don't mind sacrificing some spare change for a beautiful Arcane-esque rendering style. the 2k12 animation physically pains me and i KNOW it isn't just because it's older; the 2k9 movie was light years ahead of them animation wise.
why it's a good idea:
i would wager a guess that most of the TMNT fans currently are adults and teens who grew up watching the 2k12 series and before. not only that, but the "shock value" of having an adult-oriented turtle series would no doubt bring in viewership as well. kids change interests like clockwork, so there wouldn't be as much viewer retention there, and if they wanna watch turtles, there are plenty of other kids series already. besides, even just a feature film for an adult audience would do absolute NUMBERS.
the current generation of kids growing up on turtles will find the grown-up movie/show when THEY'RE older too, almost like it's a little gem for those at the end of a turtle-ful childhood and the beginning of a turtle-ful adulthood.
it would be so cool and refreshing to see. mutant mayhem and the ROTTMNT movie both are some of the most beloved and memorable products of the franchise because they both dared to market towards a more mature audience. obviously the rules are changing as to what's allowed in a kids movie, but i'll tell you i did not see a single child in the sold-out theatres for either of them. they attract love because they offer a wider range of content than just a couple of shows all for children. not even to mention all of the comics that are marketed towards adults!!!!!!!
let me know what else... i have ideas but not many, and i think this is a genuinely good thing to think about. thx to @theunmentionablesister for putting the idea in my head lel
this donatello is cold, methodical, and detached. he is incapable of compassion and instead manipulates those around him until they are no longer useful. when threatened, he won't hesitate to kill. inspired by american psycho, nobody, and (let's be honest) his actions in the show and movie. he ditched his bล, favoring dual knives. although he will use a MAC-10 when short on time or energy. he is most often alone, almost never on missions with his brothers. he doesn't care to help nor harm them, and views himself as the only link that matters.
i see a lot of villain donnies that are secretly self-loathing or really love everyone around them. i wanted to make one that was truly irredeemable; a real villain, not just a sort of anti-hero. no hate to other creators, i just wanted to put my own spin on the concept!
Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism ๐๐พ you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
I think itโs really weird when people who ship the canon straight ship have โship warsโ with the popular gay ships. Yes Courtney, you have human rights in every country and your ship is canon. What else do you want? Do you want my soul next Courtney?
best feeling in the world is when you draw something and youโre so proud of it you have to stop and stare at it every few minutes to remind yourself of its beauty like narcissus with his reflection in the pond
CPTSD constantly has me acting so cartoonishly stupid. hello my partner of 4 years who has literally never so much as raised their voice in my direction, i heard you doing dishes a little louder than usual in the other room. are you going to kill me?
