I’m so curious about what Pietra and Max really think of Lando and Y/N’s relationship. I know you’ve already provided us with some details, but I’d love to hear something deeper. What do they think about Lando openly and actively pursuing Y/N? Do they find it weird how drastically his behaviour towards her has changed? Do they think he still has a chance? And do they actually hope Lando and Y/N will end up together?
Max and Pietra have had multiple private conversations trying to make sense of the sudden shift. From their perspective, Lando went from barely acknowledging Y/N's existence to suddenly being obsessed with her - and there's no visible catalyst they can identify. They don't know about the soulmate reveal, so they're missing the crucial piece that explains everything.
Max sees this as a classic bully-to-lovers arc. He knows Lando was dismissive and sometimes cruel to Y/N, but he genuinely doesn't grasp the depth of damage it caused. From his perspective, it's salvageable tension that'll eventually resolve itself because Lando's clearly committed now and Y/N will come around. To Max, this is just Lando finally getting his head out of his ass and pursuing what he actually wants. What makes it confusing is that Max knows Lando in ways no one else does - this behavior is simultaneously completely in character (the relentless pursuit) and entirely not (the emotional investment). Lando chases wins, championships, perfection in racing with this exact energy. But a person? With this level of vulnerability and patience? Max has never seen Lando operate this way romantically. It's not just attraction or interest - it's something that looks almost like desperation. Still, Max is watching from Lando's side. He sees the effort, the way Lando has completely restructured his priorities around winning Y/N over. And Max knows when Lando commits to something, he doesn't quit. So he's optimistic, thinks Lando still has a real chance, and honestly hopes they end up together.
Pietra's perspective is far more complicated. She's been watching Y/N's micro-reactions to Lando since the moment she introduced them - the way Y/N's shoulders tense when he enters a room, the careful neutrality in her voice, the split-second expressions before Y/N locks them down, the way she deflects when Pietra gently probes about whether she'd ever consider giving him a chance. Y/N is exceptionally good at hiding her feelings, but Pietra has spent enough time with her to recognize when she's performing composure versus actually feeling it. And Pietra has seen all of it - every small flinch, every moment of carefully controlled emotion, the way Y/N has retreated into herself. She knows Y/N's trauma - the mother, the abandonment patterns, the way she's never let anyone close.
So when Lando suddenly transforms into this devoted pursuer, Pietra finds it suspicious. She doesn't fully trust it. The drastic behavior change reads as calculated - she's watching a man who was consistently cruel suddenly perform perfect attentiveness, and her protective instincts are screaming that people don't just flip like that without reason. She probably wonders what changed, what Lando wants, whether this is some kind of game. She worries that Lando's intensity, however genuine it seems now, might just be another way Y/N gets hurt, and she knows Y/N can't survive another person proving her worst fears right.
But here's the complicated part: she still helps him when he asks questions about Y/N. Not because she believes he deserves another chance, but because she's caught evidence of Y/N's feelings in those small reactions - the way Y/N tracks Lando when she thinks no one's looking, the particular quality of her defensiveness around him that suggests hurt rather than hatred, the fact that Y/N hasn't completely cut him off despite having every reason to. She's always suspected Y/N has some kind of feelings for Lando - feelings Y/N has never once admitted to. The way Y/N behaves around him isn't just discomfort; there's something else underneath that Pietra can't quite name but recognizes as significant. So Pietra's in this impossible position of thinking "he doesn't deserve her" while simultaneously recognizing "but she wants him anyway, even if she won't admit it."
The real question haunting them both is: does Y/N actually want this, or is she just being worn down? They go back and forth between "this could be really good for both of them" and "something about this doesn't make sense and someone's going to get destroyed."
As for whether they think it'll work - that's where they diverge completely. Max is confidently betting on reconciliation, probably even romanticizing it a bit, thinking the antagonism was always masking attraction, that this is just how their story goes. Pietra has seen Y/N's walls, knows how deep her resistance goes, and is caught in painful ambivalence about whether anyone could break through, even someone as persistent as Lando. She's uncertain if she even wants him to succeed.
And whether they hope it works out reveals the fundamental difference in their perspectives. Max is rooting for the love story. Pietra is rooting for Y/N's peace - and she's not convinced those are the same thing. At the end of the day, Pietra just wants Y/N to be happy, whether that's with Lando or without him. Her hope is conditional on Lando proving he won't hurt Y/N again. Max's hope is only tempered by confusion about why this matters so much to Lando in the first place.
Hi! First of all I wanted to say how amazing your writing is! You put some much depth and emotions in your story it's breathtaking. Y/N is such complex character, I absolutely adore her and my heart genuinely hurts for her after everything she's been through. I hope she will ditch her mother, as hard as it'll be. Can't wait to see what you'll do next 😊
I have 2 questions
You said that Lando is fighting for his 4th championship. Does this story happens in the future? Or you earesed Max's championships?
Also are Y/N and Lando the same age? Or Y/N is older/younger? Because it was said that she is 27 but few chapters later that she's 25 so not sure which one is right 😅
It's a parallel reality rather than the future - think of it as an alternate timeline where the championship victories happened differently. In this version, Max started winning earlier (before 2021), and Lando claimed his first title in 2022, so by now he’s working on his fourth while Max has already secured his fourth.
As for Y/N’s age - she’s 25, the same as Lando. The inconsistency was entirely my mistake. I changed some details while writing the new chapters and forgot to update it everywhere. So yeah, she’s 25 throughout.
P.S. Just in case someone comes for me - I obviously know Lando is 26 now, but in the story we’re not even close to November; it’s still summer.
Down the road when they're together, will Lando and Y/N relationship have a funny, light , maybe playful side? I see him so full of jokes and having a lightness to him, that would be great for her to have something like that.
Absolutely, and what makes it devastating is that Lando has been watching her be that way with everyone except him. Even before knowing they were soulmates, he witnessed her playful side with their group of friends - her dry wit with Pietra, her sarcasm making Max laugh, the ease she has with everyone else. He knows this side of her exists because he's seen it, collected evidence of it, been starving for even a crumb of that directed his way. Even though she's never joked with him like that, he knows she's capable of lightness; she's just never felt safe enough to show it to him.
So when it starts happening - maybe even before she's officially agreed to anything - it's going to feel monumental. The first time she responds to his teasing with actual sarcasm instead of polite deflection? When she makes a joke at his expense and realizes he's delighted rather than offended? That's her nervous system finally registering him as safe enough for play, not just tolerance.
And the physical playfulness would undo him completely. Her shoving him when he's being deliberately annoying, but especially the moment he accidentally discovers she's ticklish. Because her reaction won't be to freeze up or push him away uncomfortably - she'll just laugh, genuinely laugh, and shove him playfully. And when he actually starts to tickle her, testing this newfound knowledge? She won't get angry or withdraw. She'll squirm and protest while laughing, but she'll let him - not because she enjoys being tickled, but because she's comfortable enough with him that even this kind of playful invasion of space doesn't trigger her defenses. That's intimacy that doesn't require vulnerability confessions or processed trauma. It's just them, being ridiculous together.
What's particularly beautiful is that this side will emerge gradually, in pieces. She won't wake up one day and suddenly be comfortable - it'll be small moments where she forgets to guard herself, where a sarcastic comment slips out before she can stop it, and Lando responds with matching energy instead of the cruelty she's braced for. Each instance builds proof that he can handle all of her, not just the careful version.
The inside jokes will be what really cement it though. Because those require shared history, repeated moments, a private language that belongs only to them. When they start referencing things only they understand, when a single look can communicate an entire joke - that's when Y/N will realize she's built something with him that exists independent of the soulmate bond. They're not just cosmically connected; they're actually choosing each other in the small, daily ways that matter.
You know how there’s that saying that Lando can fall asleep anywhere? Well that’s him and his baby girl, when she’s an infant, right on his chest during race weekends in his drivers room (like he said in Vegas he was napping before quali), then on planes, and as she gets older is gets funnier, they’re cuddling on lawn chairs asleep, during movie nights, if there is a place to sleep the daddy daughter duo will
The devastating thing for Y/N would be walking into Lando's driver's room before qualifying, anxiety spiking because he should be preparing and focused - only to find him dead asleep with their infant daughter starfished on his chest, both of them completely at peace in the chaos of a race weekend. That ability to just shut down anywhere, regardless of stress or noise or importance, would be so foreign to her hypervigilant nervous system.
And it gets funnier as their daughter grows because she inherits it completely. Y/N will be mid-conversation with someone at a family BBQ and turn around to find both of them passed out in the grass, or conked out on the couch ten minutes into a movie they insisted they wanted to watch together. Max probably has hundreds of photos of them asleep in increasingly ridiculous locations.
What makes this particularly sweet is the trust it represents. Lando's always been able to sleep anywhere because he feels fundamentally safe in the world. Their daughter inheriting that - or learning it from him - means she's growing up without Y/N's baseline anxiety. She doesn't need to stay alert, stay useful, stay aware. She can just... rest. Anywhere. With her dad.
Y/N would probably feel equal parts envious and relieved. Envious because she'll never have that ability to just power down, but relieved because it means she broke the cycle - her daughter has the security she never did.
It’s so interesting to me that max and Pietra just assume that Lando and her are going to end up together. However they don’t know they’re soulmates. In chapter 12, when Pietra says she’s never mentioned a serious relationship before. The sentence could have ended there but Lando took it as an opportunity to say before him, proving to both of them that what he’s pursuing is going to be serious. It could be that’s just how Lando is, they think, that he pursues what he is wants to no extent, like that 4th championship, y/n their close friend is his next mission.
The irony is that Max and Pietra are reaching the correct conclusion through completely wrong reasoning. They're watching Lando pursue Y/N with the same relentless determination he applies to racing - and they think that's all it is. Just Lando being Lando: single-minded, stubborn, incapable of accepting defeat.
But what they're actually witnessing is a man trying to undo a year of cruelty to his soulmate. The stakes aren't "Lando wants something so he'll get it eventually" - they're "Lando destroyed his cosmic connection and is desperately trying to repair it." The intensity isn't ambition; it's existential necessity.
That "before him" addition is particularly revealing because it exposes how Lando views this. He's not pursuing her as a romantic prospect among many - he's claiming a position in her romantic history that he believes is inevitable and permanent. From the outside, it looks arrogant. From the inside, it's him asserting the bond's reality even when she's still resisting it.
What makes this devastating is that if Max and Pietra knew about the soulmate marks, they'd probably be less certain it would work out. They'd understand the damage is deeper, the resistance more justified. Right now they're operating on "Lando wants her, therefore he'll win her over" - pure optimism about his determination.
Max and Pietra have no idea they're watching someone whose biology and destiny should guarantee success, but whose own past cruelty created a situation where his soulmate is actively fighting against the bond.
The soulmate marks should make this easy. Lando made it impossible. Or at least A LOT harder. And from the outside, it just looks like typical Lando determination rather than a man trying to convince his cosmically-destined partner that he's worth the bond she's trying to resist.
I really love how you’re incorporating her past ‘relationships’ and showing how she’s always been a yearning lover girl but people brushed her aside to show she’s been forced to bare the minimum attention which is why she won’t accept that from her soulmate. from Lando’s perspective, he’s also forced to see who she would pair well with, Sam and James. But also shows that she belongs in this world. Her situation ship was a man who works with his own brand. She would have married rich no matter what. She belongs in his world and seen whether that was with him or not must be hard because if she doesn’t give him another chance she has options very close to his daily life. He will have to see the man she chooses for herself.
The devastating thing is that Y/N never even got the chance to be the person who loves harder or invests more - because no one ever gave her the opportunity. None of the boys she liked in school paid any attention to her. Sam was the first person to ever show interest - and she didn't meet him until university, making him her first romantic interest at 19/20 years old. Even that was just "I really like you" through texts with zero follow-through, keeping her perpetually in the "maybe someday" zone. So when Lando thinks he's being generous with his effort, he doesn't realize she has no reference point for what being chosen actually looks like.
What makes this particularly brutal for Lando is that he thinks she had something real with Sam. He's operating under the assumption she has romantic experience, that she knows what relationships feel like. He doesn't know that even Sam's interest amounted to nothing but words and waiting.
But here's what's even more terrifying: Y/N doesn't need him to access his world. Her professional success, her ability to hold conversations with CEOs and creatives, the way she naturally gravitates toward ambitious, accomplished men - she was always going to end up in elite circles through her own merit. The soulmate bond didn't elevate her into his sphere; she was already there. This dismantles any savior narrative Lando might have unconsciously held about providing her with access, status, or financial security.
And watching her connect effortlessly with Sam and James isn't just jealousy - it's the horrifying realization that his world is full of potential rivals. Men who would understand her first, who never made her feel worthless, who matched her intellectually from day one. If she walks away, her next attempt at connection might be with someone he has to see at industry events, in Max's orbit, at parties. He won't get the mercy of distance. He'll have to watch her finally give someone else the chance she's withholding from him.
The mark on her hip doesn't erase the year of damage he caused or make her incapable of loving someone else. The bond is his only real advantage, and she's already shown she'll resist it if the person behind the mark isn't worth it.
The stakes aren't "will she end up alone without me" - they're "will I have to watch her build our future with someone else who's better for her."
HI!!! happy to see you're back! missed you and hope you're all good
my heart is broken from that chapter. i relate too much to y/n in various different moments throughout this whole story. like i get her to her core. and it's just really painful to see how both sides play out for both her and lando, but it's satisfying to see how they're so similar and experiencing the same emotions, just differently. i'm like getting frustrated with both of them lol. i wish lando was better at explaining himself and his thoughts without his anger clouding his entire demeanor. like dude be a little bit more eloquent with your words so that she can grasp what you're trying to say. i wish y/n was more open and vulnerable but her entire being has been shaped by her past experiences so like nobody can blame her for how she's refusing lando. also i'm OBSESSED with how you've shown a different facet of y/n that shows just how incredible of a woman she is. as someone who is constantly doubting herself and putting herself down, seeing her shine talking about her interests is just beautiful. it was brutal watching lando see just how incredible she is and my heart hurts for him with his own feelings of inadequacy. i just want them to be happy and i know they will be but damn you're putting us through the ringer lol. i'm really hoping lando can get his head out of his ass to really try and change to be better for her. like we know how much he loves and adores her but it does seem very superficial because he hasn't taken the time to get to know her beyond that. i want him to make himself worthy of her, better himself so he can keep up with her. with y/n i can't wait to see how she will finally learn how to be vulnerable with lando and see herself the way lando does.
again, you've broken my heart and i say thank you lol. you're such a talented writer and i can't wait to see what you do next with these two🫶🏻
This comment really got to me because you GET it.
You're so right about both of them being frustrating in their own ways. They're so similar but handling it so differently, and it's messy and painful but real. Lando needs to figure out how to communicate without the anger taking over, and Y/N's walls are so high because of everything she's been through. Neither of them are wrong, they're just messy and human.
And I'm glad you loved seeing Y/N shine when talking about her passions. That was so important for me to show - she's not just defined by her trauma or insecurities, she's brilliant and incredible in her own right. And Lando seeing that while dealing with his own inadequacy is exactly the kind of pain I wanted to explore. They both have so much growing to do.
They will get their happy ending, I promise, but yeah... we're going through it first 😭 thank you for sticking with them (and me) through all the heartbreak🧡🧡
Knowing the story resonates with you like this means everything!!🫶🫶🥹
I ain’t gonna lie… I be checking every day, hoping I didn’t misunderstand when u said the next chapter was gonna be posted. 😅But I totally understand things come up, life gets in the way, sometimes writing/work is a struggle… So, no pressure!🙏
I’m personally just so excited to read it 😭😭 This is one of the best fics I’ve read it’s so insane what you’ve come up with, and touches on such a deep and common fear of people when it comes to love, but you also display so perfectly how they can react so differently to it! Which is insanely powerful and impressive to me.🥰
I get so excited everytime you post anything to do with this story, blurb and chapter alike! Thank you for all your hard work! And I also want to especially thank you for how much effort you put into your responses, you always find the perfect pictures or write basically entire scenes, and the way you truly explore the depths of your characters in a way that still feels relevant to their actual real life persona (even if your work is fiction) is insane to me. And I can’t applaud you enough. 💕💕
This comment honestly made me emotional 😭😭🥹
Thank you so much for your patience, for checking in, and for being so understanding. I know the wait is hard and I really appreciate you sticking with it.
And thank you for noticing the effort in responses! I'm glad you enjoy the asks and responses too!!! I love diving deep into these characters and their world, and playing around with them outside the chapters is genuinely so fun for me.
