the pitt fic (rabbot): i went looking for knives (and i was looking for you)
Relationships: Jack Abbot/Michael "Robby" Robinavitch
Summary: Post 2.15. Before leaving on his motorcycle trip, Robby spends one more night in Pittsburgh. He doesn't go to his condo; he goes to Jack's.
Read on Ao3 HERE
He needs to go, but if he goes now, like this… And then, like the smallest bit of light cutting through the overwhelming darkness of it all, a mother and a baby alive but for a split second, Robby, it's you and me. So Robby takes a deep breath, unhooks the helmet from his backpack, and puts it on before settling on his bike. He knows what to do.

Trinity and Mel who each had plans they were looking forward to fall through and who each got upsetting news they weren't prepared for but who found a friend in each other. Trinity and Mel who are growing together.wl
that scene between robby and santos in 2x07 when they're talking about whitaker and trinity makes a reference to the musical annie...
looks like the sun has come out for you, little orphan robby.
#guys if i had the ability to gif i would do this parallel#i also have so many thoughts about this#and the sun symbolism within this show#like !!!! like !!!!#in s1 robby finding jack on the roof with the sunrise#last episode in s1 jack finds robby on the roof when the sun has completely set#there is so much between those two scenes that are exact matches#and then here with robby :( he's framed by the sun!!!#walk with me do you see what i mean!!#maybe soon i'll be able to untangle all this#and make it into a meaningful post…#but the sun WILL come out tomorrow#there is always hope for that. always hope for a better happier tomorrow

There is such a specific frustration of being in a toxic work environment where you have been fighting with upper management constantly for years. Having someone come in and suggest the most obvious solutions. And it's never the fault of the new person. But god does that specific interaction make you want to fucking scream.
Because OF COURSE you have thought of that. you have been yelling about it. You have been arguing about it. Told no to your face over and over and over. It's such a specific level of exhaustion.
And the new person confirming you're right is validating, but they have the naive notion anything will be done because they haven't been fighting upper. They haven't been in the endless meetings where you're cut off, belittled, told no, told it's not important, told to figure it out.
It's even worse when the person comes in and gets what they want because upper wants to please them so fucking bad.
the difference in how robby talks about langdon—and his addiction—with dana vs. al-hashimi is so interesting to me. with dana, robby doesn’t hold back; he has no qualms being honest about his feelings surrounding langdon—his antipathy for his presence in the ED, all his knotted irritations—because dana has long been his partner in responsibility.
but with al-hashimi, it’s completely different. when she asks about the tension between santos and langdon, he gives a controlled version of the truth: yes, santos brought langdon’s addiction to light, and yes, that created conflict. but when she presses about whether he was stealing from the hospital, robby skirts it entirely. he deflects to the ED, to its excellence, to what it is she will be responsible for carrying when he’s gone.
and of course part of this comes from robby seeing baran as an outsider compared to dana, but it’s more than that. dana and he have years of history, yes, but robby’s caution also feels instinctive. beneath all the anger, the sharp words, and everything he’s said about langdon behind his back or to his face, there is still a protective impulse at work. even when he fronts frustration, even when he’s harsh, it comes from a place of betrayal—a betrayal born only because langdon was so trusted by him. it’s a complicated, almost paradoxical bond: anger and guilt intertwined, tempered by an almost instinctual care that refuses to vanish, no matter how bitter or fractured the relationship has become.
