How long does it take to get over someone? It’s been six months but it still hurts any time someone talks about him. Everyone says I should be over it, but I’m still sad. I didn’t want to break up, but I knew I had to.

Hey, so like, has anyone else ever been fired for a job for no reason? I don’t mean that I think there was no reason. I worked for a small company, and my direct boss was told by the owner that I was terminated effective immediately, despite recently telling me how well I did my job. My now former boss thinks it was totally unprecedented and unfair, so he’s given me a great letter of recommendation and is trying to help me find a new job.

Frankly, I’m just in shock. Being told I go above and beyond in my job and then randomly getting fired from the company, which is doing very well financially and is actually trying to hire more people, is super confusing.

Every so often, when I’m really upset, I’ll tell a friend “hey, I feel really alone and like everyone will end up hating me.” Every time they say to me, “you gotta learn to be happy with yourself, you gotta make your own happiness.” Did they ever think that maybe all I want to hear, after friends, family, and everyone else has abandoned me over the years, that they won’t leave me too?

I guess not.

People I thought were my friends apparently aren’t. I already had trouble not cutting myself off from people and this isn’t helping. What did I do to deserve this?

But I am.

When I got up suddenly to go to the bathroom, I was sitting dizzy and nauseous, trying not to throw up.

I smiled, when all I wanted to do was cry.

With what little energy I had, I tried to make you smile.

I act casual and give off the air that I’m lazy, when I’m actually just exhausted and in pain.

I was there for you when you needed me most, why can’t you do the same for me?

Funny how everyone’s always willing to accommodate disabled people as long as they don’t actually have to do anything.

According to the counselor at my college, all the teachers go through training on accommodation. But whenever I need subtitles during videos in class I get told “I don’t know how to do that” and they’ll tell me to find the video online so I can watch it at home.

The school says they are very inclusive and accommodating until they actually are asked to be inclusive and accommodating

in my class a girl raised her hand as the professor was about to play a video and said she was hard of hearing and needed subtitles. the professor looked at her, looked at the video, and said “there aren’t any. but they don’t really say much important stuff, you can pick it up from context”

Here’s where the rest of the class could have helped out. If a teacher says “oh you don’t need to hear what they’re saying, it’s not important,” the whole class should just get up and walk out.

What? Suddenly it is important? Than turn on the fucking subtitles. It’s not important? Then none of us need to hear it.

In colleges specifically, professors tend not to be actually trained on what they’re meant to accommodate, and the universities dont always require certain necessary accommodations either.

So the responsibility falls to the students to educate their professors on their needs and what they’re required to do, convince them to do it if they aren’t required or even if they are, reinforce consequences for professors who don’t accommodate the students properly (which can take forever and usually falls to under-funded or apathetic university disability services), and also gain access to accommodations and even diagnoses in the first place.

Which is, um, not a good system.

Just gonna insert my experiences here. I’m not in college right now due to poor disability accommodations. I had permission to get rides using a disability van on campus, but was often told by the driver to stop asking for it because “you don’t looks disabled, and it’s not that far anyways.” I also got yelled at by teachers for being a bit late to class, even though my accommodation letter specifically allowed me to do that. All in all, college disability services suck in my experiences and need to be fixed.
