anyone else relate
hey, sex pervert question: do you ever think about me even when im not present
I need to change my whole life
do u have a normal relationship with your mother or do you have to imagine yourself violently murdering her mid conversation in order to cope with her presence after everything she's done
me, barely making it through the day as it is, filled with depression and anxiety: pathetic. why haven't i run a marathon yet today nor won the nobel price? i must be A Failure and either need to Die Right Now or complete seven months worth of assignments in three hours
It fuckin infuriates me to no end that abusive parents make the bar "They started yelling" as their justification for physically abusing or punishing "unruly" children. It absolves them of all guilt and responsibility by blaming emotional disregulation on children, who are, y'know, not very well known for being in control of their emotions. Parents can be as firm, snappish, aggressive, commanding, or whatever else, but god fucking forbid that a child who can't control themself when upset resorts to expressing their frustration or anger by raising their voice.
I was emotionally parentified, of course I am the "therapist friend"
I was emotionally parentified, of course I can't handle any form of criticism
I was emotionally parentified, of course I will immediately apologize for every minor inconvenience, even if it is not my fault
I was emotionally parentified, of course I am an empath and an old soul
I was emotionally parentified, of course I have no identity and no clue what I want to do with my life
I was emotionally parentified, of course I am afraid of conflict and will do anything to prevent it
I was emotionally parentified, of course I appear to be "emotionally intelligent" and am good at comforting people
i think what a lot of people who tell people with emotionally abusive or manipulative parents that they just need to have a heart to heart conversation and “work things out” like adults need to know is that having that kind of conversation requires the parent/s to take any form of responsibility.
i’ve tried to talk things out but i get told that “it didn’t happen like that” and “you’re exaggerating” and “you always make me the bad guy.” for my mom specifically to work things out with me — something i’ve spent years trying to do before giving up — she would have to take accountability and she has proven time and time again she can’t. i was a kid trying to take control of a situation with an immature adult while she had the power to stop and change and i didn’t
most of us have tried to have the conversations you expect us to have but have been repeatedly and consistently shut down and blamed for the abuse we suffered. if you think an abuse survivor just hasn’t tried hard enough to mend a relationship, you’re putting the blame on them for things not getting better when they didn’t ask for the situation in the first place and are most likely already being told they’re to blame anyway

oscillating between "yeah this is normal" to "no it actually is really weird that i've collapsed and fell in front of my mom multiple times and have still not been taken to a doctor and she still keeps insisting that i could actually walk if i just tried harder"
Child abuse is legal in the U.S. and I’m seriously sick of people pretending that it isn’t or that you can CPS a kid out of an abusive household or fuck, an abusive school. Circumstances that would’ve been considered assault, harassment, or even sexual abuse should they had happened between two adults are disregarded the moment it’s clear the victim is a child and the perpetrator is a parent/guardian. Corporal discipline is not better than child abuse, it sanctions child abuse, and it is, unfuckingrefutably, child abuse. The system is not built to help children in these circumstances, they cannot just go to a trusted adult, or a teacher, or the police, or anywhere else for fucks sake. It doesn’t work that way. CPS does not save you, even if they take you from your home! Anyone who was abused — with or without the marks to prove it — knows that.
You actually shouldn't have to be going through everything alone and its completely reasonable for you to be upset that you have to be btw
grieving the version of myself I was never allowed to be
You are allowed to be scared of your parents even if they've "gotten better" or "changed"
Them trying to be a better parent doesn't erase the years of abuse they did to you
Thank you for your partecipation.
