“or in the nighttime. i think it’s time to face the facts; you’re just not all that scary,” imogen teased. she groaned in frustration at the thought of her charge. “not insufferable as much as just...annoying. she doesn’t listen toa thing i say. she goes off on her own. honestly, i wish i just had one that cried. at least they don’t do anything.”

as much as he did tend to find himself slipping into a role almost akin to a father when it came to one of the younger members of his crew , it wasn’t his intention to watch her like a peeper from behind the shade of trees until he was called out for his presence . ❛ in this pretty face , kid ? didn’t i teach ya better than to go around smashin’ what ya can’t afford ? ❜ his steps were shameless as he approached , hardly a hint of chagrin at being caught on his features as he took no remorse for enjoying the voice he had heard , neither for stopping to listen while he could . ❛ th’fuck ya doin’ without ya little princess at yer side though , didn’t assign ya to her so ya could go ‘round collectin’ shells while she makes a run for it. ❜ yet his words were more grumbled than commanded , not when he himself could understand her want to be free from their charges for a few moments ; his own princess abandoned somewhere between the sands and seas trailed behind him.
imogen grinned crookedly when she recognized nik’s voice, wiping some sand of her clothes as she turned to face him. “i think i remember you saying something like that at some point,” she replied wryly. her expression turned embarrassed as he continued, rubbing the back of her neck. “i told her to stay put,” she explained. it was better to be confident in her choice than to try to make up some excuse. “plus, how far as she gonna go? all high heeled shoes and skirts...she can’t get far. plus, if i spent another five minutes surrounded by royals, i might’ve blown my brains out. then you wouldn’t have the pleasure of my company.”

“i don’t believe a bit of pity would be undeserved.” she murmured, lips forming into a pout. she looked at the other up and down, trying to figure out what to say. “well do you have any suggestions? what am i supposed to pin it up with, a twig?” she glossed over the girls comment about being unable to do it herself.
“i’m sure you don’t. but out here in the real world, just because you want something doesn’t mean that you’re going to get it.” imogen shrugged, running her fingers through her own ponytail. her hairs was getting to be just long enough to pull it back. she’d have to cut it short again soon. “up to you.”

“alright, fine. and what should i call you? scoundrel number five?” she asked, cocking her brow as her eyes trailed up and down the girl’s exterior. olivia didn’t anticipate the suggestive wink from the pirate, causing her cheeks to tinge pink. getting back her composure as fast as it slipped, the princess shot a sickly sweet smile towards the girl. “i dare you to lay a finger on me. then i can find out how tough you really are.” letting out a dry laugh, liv shook her head. “trust me, if it was socially acceptable for me to wear trousers, i would,” she scoffed, disregarding what the brunette was actually trying to say.
“i’d much prefer scoundrel number seven. or imogen,” she added hastily, smirking at the other girl’s blush for just a moment. maybe these people were some semblance of human after all. “that sounds like a challenge, highness,” imogen said, taking a few steps towards her and placing a hand near her belt, where her knife was. “and you should know, that i’m very serious about challenges. oh, i’m sure you would. but it isn’t. because you’re just trapped by your wealth and your social status.”

“why, i don’t believe i said anything in which would insist that i’m CLEVER. though, i do hold some form of CONTENT with my jokes. if that could be taken for finding myself clever. i mean, i did spend hours on them so i would like to be rather proud of them. or else i wasted a lot of my time writing jokes. regardless it is of most importance to me that you all find some hilarity in my words as i did write them for you. but you, i suppose not. what a disappointment !! BUT ALAS, aidan of ireland PREVAILS and he shall not give up. brunette pirate of this ship who is standing in front of me right now, i will have you LAUGH. just you wait. it is now my DESTINY. okay, well, perhaps not as strong as destiny but certainly on my plan of ‘to-do’. right underneath figuring out how to crack a coconut and watching the stars.”
“you made a pun. usually people who make puns think they’re clever,” imogen replied in a matter of fact tone, crossing her arms. “then they weren’t funny. please, spare me from having to hear anymore, or else i’ll make sure you won’t be able to tell anymore.” she snorted. “good luck with that, aidan of ireland. keep up this act, and you are on a surefire path to getting yourself into trouble. not everyone will be as forgiving as me--” she paused for a moment, her eyes narrowing as she looked at him. “the stars, eh?”

maria clenched her jaw, looking away from the pirate, she didn’t have much to say in return. “ well, then no one should sleep on the ground. in my country we do everything we can to make sure every person has a roof above their head and a bed to sleep on. ” she rubbed her eyes. “ i’m not crying. ”
“right, of course. i’m sure you go out into your carriage and throw gold coins at the peasants every so often,” imogen replied, bitter sarcasm laced through her voice. in her experience, the upper class were full of empty promises. “right. no crying in the future, then. it’s pathetic.”

“i don’t lack in imagination, i’m actually quite crafty. well, you wouldn’t have a hammock if someone stole it, now would you?” would she really steal? probably not, that wouldn’t make her any different than they were. cordelia was rather inventive, and now she had no choice but to put it to use. “you’re right. you’re getting all this gold from us, but will it really matter? it’s not like you can do anything with it. you’ll be dead the moment you return us.”
“in your royal opinion, of course,” imogen replied with a snicker. she raised her eyebrow in surprise, taking a step toward the other girl and dropping her voice to a murmur. “if you touch anything i own, i’ll slice your fingers off one by one, ya hear?” she was only half lying. when you grow up with as little as imogen did, possessions were a touchy subject. she sighed. “you don’t understand how this all works, do you? that’s fine. all you are is the cargo, anyhow.”

“You’re starting to whine like one, that’s why,” Valentina retorted. Imogen’s question elicited an even heartier laugh out of the older woman, who replied, “Alas, no. Cap knows better than to shove one of those ingrates on me. It’d be dead before dawn. However, I’ve heard tell that we might be gettin’ more, and that’s what I’m afraid of.”
“i don’t think i’ve ever been more offended, val,” imogen replied, making a face. she didn’t want to be anything like those people. she snorted. “right. and i’m a better babysitter? are you kidding? more of them?”

“no kidding, just give me a shout if you need me help dragging one out to sea. i’m sure davy jones’ locker is awaiting their arrival.” odessa muttered, sitting up on her elbow to glance at the other, shielding the sun from her eyes with her hand. “guess it’s the babysitting of the privileged that’s doing us all in.” the blonde let a heavy laugh slip past her lips as her head fell back, joining in on her mockery. “oh, please no, i can’t get sand on my expensive designer gown sewn together by my personal seamstress and six maids.”
“davy jones is probably too good a sentence for them.” imogen laughed, shaking her head. “we all knew there was a chance the royals would get to us. none of us ever expected it would be like this.” she grinned as the other girl continued the joke, biting her lip. “it’s the prissy ones that are the worst, i’m telling ya. boys and girls both.”

“it’s your royal highness, actually,” olivia corrected the girl’s mocking words, smirking back at her glare. “i mean, aren’t you? did you not just take multiple royal family away from everything they know and took them to an awful island in the middle of bloody nowhere so you can torture us and use our lives to bargain for a little bit of gold??” she asked, narrowing her eyes at the brunette. “sounds pretty savage-like to me,” liv shrugged, forgetting about the uncomfortable dress for a split second.
“ooh, she bites back. i think highness is enough.” as awful as the royals were, the ones that argued were definitely the most game. it felt like a game to imogen, a battle of wits that she was determined to win. she smirked. “got me there,” she admitted in an amused tone. “although i hadn’t considered torture. but now that you mention it...” she winked at her. “and it’s not just a bit of gold. it’s a considerable amount of it. maybe we are savage. but believe me, highness, it’s much more fun than being stuffed into skirts.”

the exhilaration of skin touching the scrunching, tickling sand left the brunette with more than a small grin on his face. there was just something so INVIGORATING about this whole experience – well, the whole kidnapping from his wedding and now on a strange island with a couple of pirates who are holding royals for ransom. the fact was, though, that the crinkle in his eyes and the flexing of the muscles in the apples of his cheeks was an expression worn for the past two weeks on the sea. he was HAPPY to have been ridden of the wedding (alas, a thought he would tell only a few) and even more jocular at being surrounded by the pirates he had only read about in books. he, after all, did IDOLIZE them in some form. in any case, the taste of FREEDOM was absolutely spectacular.
his outlook on the whole situation was, of course, not reflected by other pirates and royals alike and the GLOOM that filled the area was one aidan disliked. STRONGLY. he took off his suit jacket, throwing it onto the dry sand, and rolled up his sleeves, as if preparing himself for something GRAND. his feet landed with a jump onto the nearest collection of rocks and he stood there akimbo. “ this whole journey here, i have prepared the most EXCELLENT of jokes for my fellow friends and family alike. i have racked my brain for only the best form of entertainment for you all. i must suggest you sit down, as this might just BLOW you away. are you lads ready? REALLY ready? you sure? —- ALRIGHT. how do pirates know that they are pirates? they think, therefore they ARRRR!! ” the crown prince extended his arms out, hands shaking with some form of pride. “— ta dah?”
imogen decided early on in this endeavor that she’d never be able to understand the royals. there was something about their behavior, the way they looked at situations, that was completely foreign to her. she blamed it on years of pampering and total dependence on others, something that she and many of her friends in the crew had never experienced. so, when she saw aiden hop up on to a rock, she merely rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“you,” she began after he told her joke, completely unamused. “are not half as clever as you think you are.” it was almost pitiable, how excited this particular prince was. either he was stupid enough to not understand the situation he was in, or he was deluded enough to actually think it was meant to be fun.

“i usually love the sea, but if i have to stay on a ship trapped with all those royals again, i might just walk the plank myself.” the pirate started sitting down against a tree.
“there’s really no escaping them, on the ship or off,” imogen grumbled, kicking her boot into the ground a bit. “i’m ready to just get the ransom money and move on with my life.”

finally being off the ship javier smiled. it had been so long since he got to feel his feet on solid ground. “i don’t care how much trouble i get in.” the prince said before removing his shirt and jumping into the ocean. javier loved swimming, and spending time in the ocean. “come join me, the water is great.”
“there are about a million other things i’d rather do than get in the water with you,” imogen replied, raising an eyebrow at him. “it’s not trouble you should be worrying about. it’s the sharks.”

as soon as scarlet had reached dry land she had collapsed to the ground. she had spent plenty of time grieving her once immaculate dress on the boat, and by this point had given up hope. even for someone else’s wedding she had wanted to be the most beautiful in the room. the dress had been one of her absolute favourites, made from the finest imported silk and ribbon, and now it was in tatters. her golden hair tickled her shoulders, the ruby encrusted hairpin that had once held it in place long gone in the pocket of some pirate. “i wish i could at least have something to pin back my hair.” she murmured when she heard someone come up behind her, dismay evident in her voice. she wasn’t certain who, but hopefully a pirate would pity her, and any royal could most likely relate.
imogen huffed, looking the girl up and down, unimpressed. “if you expect me, or anyone else for that matter, to pity you, you’re a fool. as far as i can see, you’ve got two perfectly good hands right there. go ahead and do it yourself. thought i wonder if your dainty little hands will be able to handle the strain.”

“i swear the next one to ask me for anything is going to have a quick trip off the plank, i’ll leave em’ to the sharks. i’m just caps surgeon, i know nothing more than the next, i’m not going to magically set anyone free to go home to their castle and their maids, unless they want to get swimming.” odessa huffed, tossing the empty rum bottle into the sand next to her and laying back with her arms crossed behind her head. anyone that knew the pirate might have been shocked at the surprising change in attitude. generally odessa tended to be considerate and polite in her own pirate way. yet something about the blistering heat and the lack of privacy away from an entire shipload of whining royals was getting to her. “lovely view, eh? bloody hot though, i’d say.”
“leaving them to the sharks sounds lovely,” imogen said, setting down in the sand next to her, her knees tucked up to her chest. “but i didn’t think you would be the one to throw the first stone. bloody fuckin’ hot,” she agreed, tilting her face up slightly and letting the sun kiss her skin. “probably means they’ll just be complaining more. oh, i’m so overheated, this heavy dress is choking me. someone please fetch me some water, please.” her voice rose a few octave as she imitated the royals, placing a dramatic hand on her forehead.

catching imogen chanting to herself had been a coincidence , after making sure to check bits of the island and what they could expect . she didn’t want to interrupt her , though at the same time melodie wanted to jump out and scare her in all its prank , failing to do so as it seemed she’d realized someone was behind her . ` ya caught me ! and here i was tryina’ scare ya , what a failure . ` grin wide and innocent , body moving to stand beside her . ` were ya goin’ somewhere ? `
“and what a scary sight you are, mel,” imogen replied with a chuckle, playfully punching her friend in the shoulder. “just looking around, clearing my head. trying to get away from the royal bullshit for a little while. and yourself?”
