For every step Temari took around the corridor in their school her leather boots made a sound. A sound of dominance, echoing over the sullen mumble of the kids in the hallway. Heads turned over, gazes followed her legs, oh how she loved when her thighs got attention, up to her face.
Not many dared to look up in her face. Maybe they were scared. Good. Let them be frightened.
It wasn’t like Temari liked being mean, but she liked the respect she got out of it. The Queen of the suburbian school, it rang so well in her ears. She liked gazes. She liked when people seemed to be scared of her.
Her army boots kept making that satisfying noise.
She spotted a pair of legs sticking out in the corridor from behind a corner. Someone was sitting, leaning against the wall and blocked the entire hallway with his lanky legs.
Temari furrowed her brows. Who the heck is this nobody?
There was a board of chess beside the boy. He leaned over, moved a piece across the board. The boy with wild brown hait sitting opposite of the offender stared at the board, making his move.
These first yearers were playing chess right in the middle of the corridor!
Temari huffed and the noise from her boots increased in volume.
The boy didn’t seem to care, totally consumed in the game. He didn’t look at her!
“Your game is in my way,” Temari said coldly to the first yearer. He glanced up at her, brown eyes searching themselves into hers. Temari stared down at him.
“This is important,” he just muttered, resumed to the game and ignored Temari.
Such arrogance, such self-confidence. It knocked Temari over. She just stared at him, before finally slamming herself down opposite of the dark-haired boy, shuffling the other one away.
“It’s okay, Choji,” the boy said when Choji huffed as Temari pressed him aside. “Looks like someone want to challenge me.”
“You think you’re so good at chess, huh?” Temari said, wrinkling her nose at the boy. “And introduce yourself.”
“I’m Shikamaru,” he said. “And you won’t win me.”
Shikamaru smiled and Temari smiled back.
