My husband’s job primarily employs adult men but there is one (1) teenage girl and my husband said originally he worried she might be a bit of an outcast but instead every man on the crew was like “huh guess I am a dad/older brother now.”
She was in a car crash on the way to work one morning and called my husband to let him know she’d be late and he was like wtf guess I’m gonna be late too because I’m coming to pick you up and then he told his team and they were like I think you mean WE are coming.
Imagine you are a teenage girl probably rushing to get to work and you crash your probably new car and feel absolutely miserable and now you’ll be late to work but then suddenly in the distance a car full of all the adult men you work with just pulls up and is like “we came all the way here to pick you up” the mental image right now is fr.
Apparently she tried to call her dad but it was 3am and he was obviously sleeping so she called my husband and he not only came to find her but fished her glasses out of the hood of the car (she’d dropped them while looking inside), drove her to the hospital, and told her to take the day off. She insisted on coming back to work so he used his lunch break to watch TV with her to make sure she didn’t doze off (concussion risk).
You’ve heard of the Mom friend but my husband is very much the Dad friend. He said when he answered the phone she said “hey please don’t be mad” and he’s never felt such powerful Fatherhood energy in his life.
Sebastian Vettel says he has developed a special respect for five time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The pair have been title rivals for years, but the German said that in the recent past, he realized that Hamilton deserves his full respect. “At some point it clicked,” Vettel told Der Spiegel. “It’s not like I don’t also respect the other drivers, but with Lewis I can also feel that it is mutual.”
It was Saturday morning. You sat in front of your vanity mirror in the Monaco penthouse you now shared with your boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton. In front of you was no other than, Val Garland. She prepped your face for the VOGUE interview you and Lewis were about to give.
Almost a year into the relationship, you and Lewis have been as private as possible about your decision to commit to one another. You were more apprehensive than him, it was hard enough to date a 7-time world champion whose schedule consisted of travelling around the world every week and spending hours and hours in garages and factories with his team of engineers. But, the scrutiny that comes with dating a public figure was a lot for your to bear. Fans and media outlets have always been very opinionated about people's lives and not being born into the world of fame, it scared you to think what the public would say if they had every detail of your relationship, notwithstanding the fact that there were already articles with the little they'd manage to dig.
However, as time went by, you and Lewis became more and more serious about each other. You were at almost every race weekend, at A-list parties as Lewis' guest, and even fashion weeks... Your relationship was never a secret, Lewis knew he was serious about you when he decided to commit and made sure he posted you whenever the moment called for an instagram story or whenever he felt emotional and decided to dedicate a post to the supportive and loving partner he found himself with. However, you were never open about the intricacies of your bond. You barely gave interviews about it, - besides some comments Lewis would make here and there - people had no idea how you had met or what it meant to be in a relationship with such a busy man... All of this was going to come to an end after today.
"You look amazing" your thoughts were interrupted by the soft voice of your boyfriend, who stood at the entrance of your vanity room. Val smiled and finished fanning your face, helping the setting spray dry faster before slowly removing herself from the room. Your eyes directed themselves at the figure that now stood in front of you: "you don't look so bad yourself, love." You assured him as he leaned to place a small kiss to your forehead.
"Ready when you are" Lewis extended his hand and you gladly took it. The VOGUE crew was already set up in your living room. For a small magazine article, there were quite a handful of professionals around. Besides Anna Wintour, who was going to lead the interview, there were photographers, one videographer and a couple men dealing with lightning. You took a deep breath and Lewis, noticing your nerves starting to kick in, squeezed your hand reassuringly. "You got this" he managed to whisper to your ear before you placed yourselves on your white cushions, right across from Anna.
After much deliberation and insistence from the media outlets, you and Lewis had decided to give an interview about your relationship, to share some insights on how the year has been and if the risk had been worth taking. In the midst of many magazines and shows that had reached out to you two, practically shoving you with contracts and deals as to why they would be the best source to tell your love-birds story, you both agreed to share it with VOGUE Magazine.
Anna smiled at the sight of you making yourselves comfortable in front of her, she complimented your home and engaged in a little small talk to get you accustomed to her tone and chat.
"We're so happy you finally chose to give us the honour to tell your story" She squirmed in excitement, holding on to a set of cards which seemed to be her script or lines of guidance for the interview.
Lewis and I smiled in assent to her gratefulness, his quiet side starting to come out slowly. Lewis was used to giving interviews, he was always in the spotlight but he had been open to you about how it's easier to talk about technicalities of a race weekend, of how much tyre wear he's had or lack of pace over talking about his views or personal life. You chuckled subtlety at the thought of Lewis being nervous and gave him a soft glance - a, "I see you" glance - that only he could read.
Anna took a deep breath as the cameras started rolling and clicking. The bright lights shone upon the three of you, creating the ideal gleam and cool ambiance the interview needed.
"Let's start slowly... I want you guys to feel as comfortable as possible, this is all going to the magazine and the videos will only be used if, at a later date, we agree to make something with it. So for now, just breathe, we'll have a nice chat and I reckon it'll be an enjoyable ride for all of us" She squinted her eyes as her lips formed the perfect banana shape every time she looked at you two. "Feel at home" she joked, knowing she was sitting in your living room.
You couldn't help but giggle at her comment, the mood lightening a bit to your comfort. Lewis' laugh echoed in your ear, and you felt safe. Anything with Lewis was easy, to you, at least. He made sure you were always within your limits of comfortability, and at arm's length. You felt like a flower whenever with him, his love so pure and passionate, it was hard to not feel protected.
"Tell us then, loves. A year into the relationship," Anna sighed enthusiastically "you have never spoken on the details of this relationship but the whole world has been in love with the little content you manage to feed us with: the trips to Bali, the little Y/N cameos at race weekends, Lewis' cute posts... I'm eager to know more!" She continued, basically begging for one of us to the start telling our story.
You chuckled slightly and looked at Lewis, hinting at him that he should speak first. Although you had already gotten over the fact that he was THE Sir Lewis Hamilton, something in you still insisted that you let him take the reins. He was used to the spotlight, it was still a new world for you.
"Uhm yea..." Lewis chuckled nervously "It's been a year since Y/N and I decided to make our relationship official, we've obviously, like you said, been keeping most of the details to ourselves and enjoying the relationship in our bubble and in the best way we can." He spoke, continuing every time Anna assented, confirming that she was following. "I think not only I enjoy the privacy we've been able to keep but so does Y/N, we live in a scary world, people have completely restricted themselves from having boundaries when it comes to commenting on things they have no awareness or knowledge of, so the decision to keep it shallow to the outside world has been what worked best so far." He nodded slightly. You bit your lip observingly, listening to Lewis speak about your relationship scared you more than it excited you, your thoughts would sway from his explanation to what people would possible think or make of his words.
"And it's super understandable..." Anna nodded to the both of you, "being in the public eye is one of the hardest jobs any of us have, really. For as much as there is love, the hate and negativity that comes with it... It's only fair most of you opt out of the spotlight" She laughed.
"Yea, I mean... I come from a completely different background you know? and to all of a sudden have all of these people interested in my life and what I do, and having researchers going down to my hometown just so they can have articles on my life, or why Lewis is with me... It really is a lot to take in" You spoke, your voice still a bit shaky as you made yourself comfortable. Lewis' glance turned to you, his brown eyes encouraging enough to help you keep following with your strain of thought.
"I think it's more of just wanting to keep the details to ourselves, because the relationship itself isn't much of a secret. Both Lewis and I just want to protect ourselves from what people can do, or be. I guess. As you said, there is just as much negativity as there is positivity. I'm sure a part of Lewis' fans are ecstatic that he found a partner that makes him so happy he decided to go back on his word of not wanting a relationship and finally settling" before finishing, you looked at him and smiled brightly at the thought of being the girl Lewis had chosen to go against his word for. "But..." you sighed, almost as if the words you were about to bring out were daggers to your heart. Lewis' hand reached for yours, which rested on your lap, and he squeezed it lightly. "but there's also a side, or a portion of people that won't be happy with his choices, or will try to find a negative point in every thing that we do, or he does, in particular. We feel the negativity that is at times thrown at us, we see some of the comments and we're only humans... There really isn't any getting used to it I guess. So, our privacy ends up being more of a defense mechanism from all of that" You nodded at Anna, finishing your sentence.
Anna smiled reassuringly, showing you both how empathetic she was to the situation. "I mean, Ariana Grande can agree with both of you. Privacy is the best remedy" She chuckled, making you guys laugh in agreement as well. Not wanting to focus on the negative aspects of being in a relationship, she proceeded "Y/N spoke on the fact that you, Lewis, literally went against something you had set for yourself!" Anna's eyes widened as she mentioned the topic of Lewis being committed. His smile brightened, his cheeks blushing slightly at the statement. "and I guess this is what intrigued most of us, the most! I mean, Sir Lewis Hamilton, 7 time world champion has always been very vocal on how relationships and kids are the last thing on his mind because his schedule is filled with Formula 1. We all thought any of that would only come after retirement? Tell us a bit more, please." She begged.
"Uhm yea" Lewis chuckled, stumbling in his words. "Yea, no, I think I didn't see it coming either. Or at least it wasn't premeditated." He looked at you for assurance, and you nodded in confirmation to his statement, muttering a "it wasn't" without interrupting his thoughts.
"Yes, it wasn't in the plans. I mean, I've always been as focused as I could be but, there has always been ocasional dates here and there and, respectfully, Y/N and I had embarked on simply that. But she just swept me off my feet at some point" His laugh echoed through the room, it became hard for your to hide your grin. Lewis had always been a softie to and for you, he always made sure you felt loved through your love languages but, to hear him speak about your relationship was something else. A different feeling.
"When did you decide it was time?" Anna asked, trying to squeeze more out of Lewis. His smile grew wider as he looked at you, and he shrugged slightly before saying: "I just felt it" His eyes locking with yours for a split second. I
He took a deep breath and decided to fill Anna Wintour on a bit of what was your story as a couple. "We had broken up, I suppose... ended things, after a while. Y/N in particular thought we were getting too caught up in the "occasional" dates" He began, wiping the inexistent sweat off his forehead. "It had become more than just occasionally seeing each other, she found herself finding time in her schedule to fly over for a weekend then would end up spending a whole week with me, then it became a regular thing of flying to whatever part of the world on my weeks off, to spend time..."
"It even got to a point where I'd fly down to the factory just so we'd have a few hours together after" You interrupted Lewis, remembering the times he'd put you on a flight just for a day or two in between his work schedule. Lewis smiled slightly, his fast nod reassuring the crazy things you guys were doing at the time.
"B-but, I didn't want to commit to a relationship. I couldn't commit" Lewis stuttered, slowly licking and tightening his lips together. "I think we both knew what that was turning into and decided to call it quits, but I think we were a little too late" He scratched his neck and looked at you once more. The love of his life. His voice became raspy and low, talking about you put him in the verge of tears.
"I don't know what it was. My focus was still on my work but there was still her." He muttered. "I would go to bed and for the first time feel like my bed was empty, or have a week off and wish we were off somewhere in Venice trying not to get caught" He smiled at you. Goosebumps rushed through your body as memories of a sneaky-link came to the surface. Lewis had just finished racing at Imola and despite having a race the next weekend, he delayed his flight and took you to Venice for a few days, he needed to see you, he needsd time off with you. Even though, for the most part of the adventure, you had to make sure you were as lowkey as possible, it was still a fun time. You bit your lip at the thought, now placing your hand over his, which sat comfortably on the space between the two of you.
"There's a text" He laughed. "You should show her the text" Lewis joked, looking at your now blushing cheeks.
"A text? I'm intrigued!" Anna joined, her chin resting on her hand, as she enjoyed more and more of the insights.
You laughed at the idea of showing the text Lewis had sent you. "yea, maybe we'll attach it to the article" you joked.
"Yea, I texted her I think a month or so after not seeing her, I think we weren't even speaking properly." Lewis said.
"Maybe just checked in once or twice" Your added and he nodded "Yea."
"I had to take the risk, you know? This was it. I hadn't felt this way about anyone before. Not since making the decision of not being in a relationship, anyway. Y/N made me feel differently, I knew I couldn't wait until I retire to try and get what we had back... Time wasn't going to wait for me and I certainly couldn't ask her to put her life on hold, so..."
"It was a risk worth taking then, from what I see" Anna spoke, her hands gesturing at you two who sat almost cosied up to one another.
"So worth it." Lewis smiled. You wanted to jump in his arms, to give him a big kiss right then and there and tell him how much you loved him but all you did was look at him, lovingly and amazed at how far you two had come.
"What is it like, Y/N?" Anna's low voice brought you back to earth, you took a last glance at Lewis before turning to the lady, whose eyes were pierced on you, her interest screaming for some insight on how it felt for you.
You looked at your fingernails and shook your head slightly, unable to come up with words to describe how it felt to be around Lewis, let alone with Lewis.
How do you describe the feeling of waking up to flowers every Saturday morning? the feeling of getting a good night call every time he couldn't give you a good night kiss? the feeling of being the luckiest girl in the world, of being genuinely loved without being asked for anything in return. There weren't enough words to tell Anna Wintour how bright your days had been after Lewis decided to ask you to be his girlfriend, then asking you to move in. No description could come close to the feeling of being someone's go-to, someone's best friend and comfort person.
"Ever since Lewis, I only listen to love songs..." You managed to mutter the first analogy that came to mind, your eyes slowly filling with tears. You shrugged slightly and looked at him, almost as if you were reciting your vows. "I'm definitely the luckiest. He makes sure I'm always comfortable, makes sure we spend time together even when he's racing back to back. He's so supportive and, as you can tell from the thousands of instagram posts and stories of my face, he is so so loving" You squeezed Lewis' hand, and you could tell he just wanted to embrace you in a cuddle. His teeth showing as his smile widened more and more at your words. "We took a huge risk, and it's scary to think that we might one day disagree on what is our individual priority or what our goals look life for the future, but for now, I am enjoying every waking moment next to him and it feels like waking up in heaven, every single day. Lewis isn't just dedicated when it comes to racing, once he puts his mind to something, anything, he invests in it wholeheartedly and this is how it's been with our relationship."
A tear rolled down your cheek, the thought of such pure love scared you just as much as it excited you. You were ready to build forever with Lewis and as far as you knew, so was he. The moment had somewhat became intimate as you continued to slowly describe how mesmerising your relationship with Lewis was. You had forgotten the camera men, the interviewer, and so had Lewis. His hand rested on your cheek, his thumb caressing the tears away. You didn't mind the moment though, after all, it was the love of your life you were talking about...
