“thanks, honey. you know, i couldn’t be doin’ this what you. right?” he said with a small laugh, leaning in to press a quick kiss to her cheek. really, she was the BACKBONE of their family, the one holding them all together while he was out working. he didn’t always express his gratitude for it, but he always felt it. and he just so happened to be in a good mood to be able to outwardly express it to his wife.

he’d been so busy with the new job that he was hardly home anymore. missing dinners, parent-teacher meets and even important milestones of their youngest. it was DISHEARTENING, but being able to have small moments like this made up for all the other things he missed. “oooh, they all sound good. but, how ‘bout ITALIAN? we haven’t had that in a while.” he suggested with a grin.

helen smiled as bob kissed her cheek, each moment that she spent with him just was a reminder of how much she had missed him. she was excited for dinner, but helen couldn’t help but looking forward to later tonight when they could spend some quality time together. 

❝ italian sounds good ―  ! ❞ she nodded her head in agreement. ❝ vi’s at some meeting for her drama club so she might not be back home for another hour and dash is at a friend’s house so we do have some time to kill before then. ❞

Quite a bit, in fact. John’s fumbling attempts to master his powers growing up were a testament to that. It certainly was normal for a super family, the trouble’s he’d had, but to an outside his growing power must have looked like the rise of the Antichrist. 

It was easy for normal people to be afraid of supers, which is why he worked so hard to make them like him. 

Shrugging, John lifted his legs, levitating in the air. Yes, he knew his parents didn’t like frivolous uses of his powers, but it was a nervous habit. Levitating was more tolerable than accidentally phasing through the floor. “I also… was approached by a super team. One of the teen hero ones, that’s like… a training camp for one of the big time teams.” Might have buried the lead, there.

with his comment, helen felt like he just opened up a whirlwind of terrible possibilities. she knew that it was a lighthearted comment, but there really was so much that could go wrong. helen always felt like the rights of superheroes were just so fragile after the initial ban. it had been many years since the ban was lifted, but she wasn’t sure that small voice in her head would ever go away.

helen was about to chastise him for his floating when he said the other news. ❝ oh ― ! ❞ she couldn’t help but smile. ❝ well that’s good ! right ― ? i mean, is that something you’d be interested in ― ? being on a team ― ? ❞ it sounded good to her. teams felt safer, and there was a lot to be learned from them, but she knew that it wasn’t something everyone wanted. after all, back when she was starting out helen was approached to head a team of supers as well. and while she appreciated the offer, she didn’t want to get stuck babysitting supers who might not get along. she was trying to make a name for herself after all !
