“I honestly think that award shows should be cancelled this year, all of them. The Grammy’s are going to suck without Taylor and Ariana there, not that I love them, but they do bring ratings. Then the Oscars have no host, and it’s still three hours long, can’t they bring back Ellen? I’ll even settle for Neil Patrick Harris again, and he wasn’t that funny”.

“it’s 3 am, i know, but i can’t sleep” calliope admitted as she stood outside the others door, “insomnia loves company and my insomnia choose you, take a walk with me?” 

Paige rubbed their eyes and covered their mouth to hide a yawn. “You are so lucky I took a nap today, or things would have gone differently”. They stretched their arms over their head and nodded, “sure, we can go see the sunrise on the roof”.

Dean wasn’t sure how to feel as she read over the letter in front of her. A letter from her mother, with a picture of the two of them that Dean had never seen before. A letter telling Dean how proud she was of her and that she was sure she was a wonderful young lady. There was no return address, no way to contact her in response. She was too afraid to call her father and ask- he was barely over her mother after all. She looked up at the sound of footsteps, clearing her throat as she folded the letter. “The hell are you lookin’ at?” She asked gruffly, blinking back unshed tears.

Paige jumped slightly when they heard the other’s voice. “S-sorry”, they raised the magazines they were holding, “I was on my way to my dorm and... there was this article I couldn’t help but look at it for a second and I didn’t notice that you were near. Everything okay?”, they offered her a small smile.

“I’m just saying, I’m pretty sure two people have almost stepped on you, so maybe I should just stand here until you’re ready to get up,” she teased, deciding to join them in laying on the grass. It wasn’t as though the blonde had anything better to do, despite already having work for two of her classes that was due in the morning. “Is it weird if I say I miss the snow? ‘Cause, like, I totally hate snow, but Switzerland was fun. I think it’s just the skiing and snowboarding I miss, though, honestly.” 

“Should I have work a safety vest? I thought having red hair was enough for people to notice– SOMEONE IS LYING ON THE GRASS HERE“, they raised their voice at the end, scaring some of the people who were passing by. “I miss the spa. I had an amazing massage there, and the snow was fun. You can skateboard, if you miss snowboarding that much, but you’ll fall to the ground instead of falling into fluffy snow”.

“Well, I just got here from my flight so my answer might be a little wary” Nikita was away with her family while everyone was on the school trip skiing. As much Nikita wanted to go, her family is way more important. “I know what I want in the future is to help people. Being a lawyer is for me. For you is something you need it to be in love with, passionate about.”

“You can help people in many ways. You can build them houses, you can become a doctor. How did you know that lawyer is the way? Did you woke up one day and was like this is it? I am passionate about that energy drink, but I don’t think someone is going to pay me just to drink it forever“.

“Ehh,” Amos began, looking away from the book he had been reading to glance at Paige, elbows holding him up, “I feel like red skin would clash a little too much with your hair–you’d have to go…brunette, or blonde, even.” A smile tugged at his lips as he joked, reaching over and stealing a sour gummy from their stash, “I’m just entirely, overwhelmingly, thankful that I get to go back to my studies. Y’know–testing is only in a few months, and while I believe firmly that standardized testing is a scam and that we should focus our education on life-long skills et cetera, et cetera, I also would prefer to pass them.” It was entirely like him to worry about testing months away, but the ski trip had deprived him of it–he was overcompensating for lost time.

“What if I’m going for a different aesthetic look? All red“. Paige chuckled and looked back at Amos, mentally slapping themselves about the fact that he was doing some reading and they were not. “Why didn’t you take books on the trip? I barely did any sort of skiing because I needed some time to read”, and they had fallen face first into the snow in one of their tries. “You know you and I should probably find another way to stick it to the man. I don’t think that memorizing information is going to help us in the future, only for exams. And passing them is just a way of... you know, just doing what the big they want”.

While she enjoyed the snow, Avery was glad to be home. The bright sunshine was most definitely something she missed. She could wear a tank top and shorts and not freeze her butt off. This did mean that she was going to take her homework outside and do it. But before she did, she’d made a few drinks, fresh juice punch. There wasn’t any alcohol in them, knowing she could get in trouble. Really, there wasn’t any in them. 

Heading to the green grass, she noticed Paige sitting on the grass. A smile formed across her face as she headed over to them. “I have to agree with you, but I do think it’ll get a little better with some fresh juice punch if you’re up for it. I made it this morning.”

Paige sat up when they heard Avery walk over. “Punch?”, they nodded with a smile, “I’ve only had store brand, so I’m definitely trying anything that’s freshly made”. They stretched their legs and put some more lotion on them, feeling the itch of the burn starting. “This is so much better than wearing layers to go out, right?”

“I totally agree with you, that ski trip wasn’t for me,” She smiled as she looked at them from standing afar.  "I didn’t know you could be red as a lobster, can you tan into a color?“

“Have you seen my skin?“, Paige raised their arm. “Okay, tan probably wasn’t the word to use. I burn. But maybe this will be the year I tan at least a little bit? I would try those fake tans but I don’t want to end up orange or worse”.

“could’ve done the exact same thing during the trip since snow reflects light. could’ve been a lobster already.” the male lightly coughed, rubbing his chest and then looked at them with a semi-interested expression when taking the bag to snag a piece. “what a life..”

“Yeah, but you can’t properly tan in the snow, you need heat and light. Plus, I wouldn’t want my hair getting wet“. Paige turned to look at him, “did you have fun on the trip or was it filled with drama?”.

Laying besides Paige, Max took the time of solitude to reply to a few emails and schedule her college interviews. Even now she couldn’t bring herself to fully relax, always finding herself itching to do something productive with her time. “Lobster red? That’ll definitely be a new look,” she laughed. “Who needs to wear blush when your skin is naturally as red as a firetruck.”

The sound of the keys typing was a bit distracting, but Max was in the zone and they weren’t going to get her out of it. “I know, right? maybe I’ll be insta famous for a while, the lobster or something”, Paige looked up at her, “I would win easily in a game of hide and seek if it was in a barn, are all barns red?”

Don’t forget a bottle of ibuprofen if it’s too unbearable.” Dean pointed out with a low chuckle, wrinkling her nose a little. “The candy over there was very good… some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had.” She sighed wistfully, shaking her head at the thought of it. “A lot of shit is better than Monster energy drinks. It literally tastes like battery acid.”

“Ibuprofen, of course“. Paige licked their lips and smiled at the thought of Swiss chocolate, “you can never go wrong with Swiss chocolate, did you try the taffy? The caramel apple flavor is pretty good”. She let out a gasp, “okay, I agree some flavors are pretty bad but the low sugar one is pretty okay”.

Laying down beside them with his arm across his eyes, Simon was also enjoying the weather. Yeah, Switzerland was beautiful, but it was too damn cold for him. He was glad to be back at Kingswood with its warmer weather and lack of snow. “I couldn’t imagine living with that much snow like that. I would avoid going outside every single day.”

“Right? I don’t know how people deal living in extreme weathers, like people that live in the desert, why go out if the sun wants to kill you?“. Paige wiped some sweat off their forehead, “plus, you can slip easily because of the ice and then the big snowfalls, and so many layers of clothes...”

“Hey, if you want an excuse to go to Red Lobster, you can pretend I actually said that and we can be on our way. I like the cold but I had an accident on the snow, long story short, I had to walk to the hotel with wet socks”.

Aria couldn’t help but frown when she finally opened the package she got earlier that day. “Not gonna lie, this trend of my mom giving me all the presents my brother’s fiancee sends her is really starting to piss me off. I was really hoping I was gonna open this to find my new shoes, but instead I got… Four jars of wine jelly?” She questioned as she took the jars out of the cardboard box they came in. “Who even eats this? Do you want them?”

“I’m going to ask a really rude question but is your mother a drunk? I think your brother’s fiancee is trying to send a message, and four jars of wine jelly doesn’t seem like a loving one“. Paige looked at the jars and opened one, smelling the jelly. “We can make shots out of this, maybe, for the next party”, they looked at the brunette with a small smile. “I can take them out of your hands, just need to clean my mini fridge first to make some space for them”.
