It had been months since the last transmission. It was only August and the summer rain was active then. Now it was December and the harsh winter had begun to settle in return. Moving boxes were everywhere in the Shoreside Drive-In with only a few things left to pack.
The upcoming transmission was late and the radio was old but the person on the other side was ever so lively.
B: “Hello? Who’s there?! I didn’t realize there was someone on this thing trying to contact! I’m s-sorry for being late!”
Boxten was shaky at first, being more than startled and lifting the receiver in his worn wooden hands. He was whimpering while trying to twist the knob and get past the static.
B: “Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh! I didn’t mean to be late. Is anyone still there? Hello?”

"Hello? I'm sorry to have.. Left the transmission as is. As I was saying; I am 'Observer'. As that is what I am always known as." [Static] "Send me Transmission, would You?"
For it being a few weeks things certainly have changed. Rather than it being in the comfort of their rundown but still standing drive-in theater Boxten was now on the move. The human boy was there, too, catching on to the portable radio Boxten always carried on his back.
G: “Hey, didn’t you turn that one off before we left? Boxten, get over here. There’s something up. I gotta clear it.” Gabriel motions the droid over with his hand.
B: “Huh? Again? That’s odd. Do you think it’s just the wind?” He’s a little skeptical at first, shuffling over in the snow and crouching beside Gabriel for him to move the moss around on his back.
G: “Oh please. The weather’s been treating us nicely today. There’s hardly anything going on right now out here so something’s bugging the radio for sure.”
The boy lifts the receiver and gives the old radio a few bangs with his fist. “Hey. Who is this? We got your lousy transmission and we’re kind of busy.”
Boxten felt he was just imagining things. Were they being pranked again like last week?

TRANSMISSION RECIEVED FROM: [UNIDENTIFIED]

"Hello Hello? Yes, that was me.. I'm 'Observer', I'm-" *static* "-sorry for leaving that transmission a few weeks ago, the weather was harsh here.-" *static* "-Had to wait till it was clear"

G: “‘Observer’, huh? Will keep that in mind. Why contact us? What’s the situation?”
The boy was gripping the receiver in one hand and starting to carefully place some boxes down with the other.
B: “Observer sounds familiar… I think I told you about this person, Gabe! Something about uhm… Servers last week? Or Survivors.”
Boxten leaned down to pick up whatever Gabriel had placed down. The droid didn’t mind too much since he was the stronger of the two, carrying a majority of the boxes.
Boxten didn’t say it now but he was glad he didn’t hear the transmission wrong those days ago.
G: “Survivors, huh… You wouldn’t be wrong. This is Gabriel Stenton and Boxten. You’ve reached our radio station.”
Gabriel huffs through the cold dry air, stuffing his free hand into one of the pockets of his dirty pink fur-lined parka.
G: “If you were contacting before then I’m guessing the weather’s screwed you up, too, then? Or would I be wrong? We don’t have the supply to help right now.”
Seems that Gabriel is tense today.
*the voice from the radio answers.* "The weather here was pretty bad then, but not enough to create any real damage. Just a few holes that could be covered"
*static* "..To be honest; I was playing around with the radio hoping that someone would answer." "Because I'm stuck with a-" *static* "-sentient pile of black goo thats more of a pain to avoid than to deal with." *static* "You could say I just needed someone to talk to."
G: “Just someone to talk to… I think that can be managed. Yeah.”
He squints far ahead at the street upcoming, Gabriel looking at Boxten and gesturing to keep up.
G: “So what’s it like on your end? What kinda damages we talking? And what’s with the black goo? Is it some sort of new biomass?”
B: “New biomass? Oooh noo…”
"The damages are not that severe, just a few cracked windows and leaky ceiling."

"I dont think the black goo is a biomass? Its just in the corner of my room, moving occasionally. Only upside is that some mutants avoid it, especially some stretchy-armed mutant I keep seeing around lately."
G: “Stretchy-armed, you say? Avoiding some… pile of gunk.” Gabriel ponders in wonder. “If only we had that. Right, Boxy? Would save us a lot of trouble with the mutants we have here.”
B: “Mm!” Boxten nodded in agreement, the two beginning to climb uphill. “Definitely!”
G: “And honestly! Sunrise is going to shit with how many attacks we’ve received since Canada, USRF, the Coalies and mutants started going to war.”
As the two were walking further into Sunrise City Gabriel paused, turning towards the nearby abandoned Art Institution. He motions Boxten to wait where he was, offering him the receiver.
Boxten of course accepted, placing his boxes down and holding it up to his speaker while Gabriel went ahead
B: “So Observer! What’s it like where you are? Are you on-island or not? Are the locals friendly?”
"Hmm.. Where I am, nature pretty much covers the whole place, and its thick with trees. As for the locals.. I don't really think anyone's out here, aside from the occasional mutant. I just stay in some forest cabin I found."

"Even if there were locals, I hope they're friendly.."
[Ooc: Made design for the Anons just to make them fit this lore :D. Designs under the cut + other guy who has yet to interact with anyone. Not too familiar with After the Flash Wintertide but im looking into it]
B: “Ooh! We’ve been living in a drive-in theater out by the shoreline. We’re in the middle of a move though since there was an attack close to here and has been growing biomass.”
Boxten would scratch the underside of his “chin” thinking about it, moving his free hand to his mossy, leafy shoulder.
“I would have been fine since I’m a droid but Gabriel’s at risk with the new mutant strain break so we’re going deeper into Sunrise to try and avoid that.”
"There's a new mutant strain going about? What exactly.. is it? I'm curious, and haven't heard much from outside." The voice sounds confused, rightfully so. As he hasn't gone out of the forest recently.
B: “Yeah. Scary stuff. It’s got the entire island split. The mutants were kinda their own people before in Southpoint but now there’s this new strain that can mutate humans, too. Even going so far as going into eldritch stasis.”
The way that Boxten speaks. How his voice tremors slight in the background with a mild static like an old stereo that doesn’t want to cooperate. “Sometimes I wonder how it’ll affect the people that I know…”
"God.. that sounds.. horrible. I hope you guys are able to stay safe, it sounds like a good choice to move to Sunrise, even with the risk of encountering hostile mutants."

"..That would also explain the unnatural mutants people have been seeing lately..."
G: “Hey.” Gabriel makes a sudden approach, jogging down the stairs while he calls out to Boxten, “We gotta get moving. Alleycat. The signs are all here. Let’s go.”
B: “Oh—Her? Oh no!” Boxten would grimace (if he had a mouth), quickly picking up the boxes and preparing again for the move.
G: “Always her and that mutt messing with our stuff. Hope she doesn’t notice and tail or that it’s just the dog freak.”
It isn’t before long that Gabriel makes it over, taking some of the luggage to help lighten the load.
Gabriel is now on the receiver again.
*the voice heard.*
"Alleycat? Is that.. a code for one of the mutants?" *The voice spoke curiously*
G: “You could say that, sure. Never bothered to make contact but she’s always made a disaster every few months in the lower floor of the theater. Mutt usually follows after the next day in the car lot but he’s more communicative.”
The boy lets out a sigh as he shrugs, gesturing to Boxten to get moving.
G: “We never bothered to actually find out where they lived since they’re both dangerous. Never guessed this place, though. There’s a shit ton of posters cut into and drawn on from our old place.”
".. Like arts and crafts?. Anyway, it sounds that they don't take kind to strangers, wish you luck in trying to get away." *The voice said, it was a tad concerned but still mostly fine*
G: “Well there isn’t much guarantee but the bridge might do us some good. Or maybe the hotel but lots of folk tend to go there… Nobody would expect a couple of guys underneath where old Bargetown used to be.”
"Hmm.. I guess so? I haven't really left the forest, only snippets of maybe outdated news come my way. I hope you stay safe."
G: “Oh we’ll be safe. We’re here out on the bridge now though so we gotta set up camp. Hopefully it’ll stick. Talk to you again soon.”

The way that Boxten speaks. How his voice tremors slight in the background with a mild static like an old stereo that doesn’t want to cooperate. “Sometimes I wonder how it’ll affect the people that I know…”
"God.. that sounds.. horrible. I hope you guys are able to stay safe, it sounds like a good choice to move to Sunrise, even with the risk of encountering hostile mutants."

G: “Hey.” Gabriel makes a sudden approach, jogging down the stairs while he calls out to Boxten, “We gotta get moving. Alleycat. The signs are all here. Let’s go.”

G: “Always her and that mutt messing with our stuff. Hope she doesn’t notice and tail or that it’s just the dog freak.”
It isn’t before long that Gabriel makes it over, taking some of the luggage to help lighten the load.

It had been months since the last transmission. It was only August and the summer rain was active then. Now it was December and the harsh winter had begun to settle in return. Moving boxes were everywhere in the Shoreside Drive-In with only a few things left to pack.
The upcoming transmission was late and the radio was old but the person on the other side was ever so lively.
B: “Hello? Who’s there?! I didn’t realize there was someone on this thing trying to contact! I’m s-sorry for being late!”
Boxten was shaky at first, being more than startled and lifting the receiver in his worn wooden hands. He was whimpering while trying to twist the knob and get past the static.
B: “Oh gosh, oh gosh, oh gosh! I didn’t mean to be late. Is anyone still there? Hello?”

For it being a few weeks things certainly have changed. Rather than it being in the comfort of their rundown but still standing drive-in theater Boxten was now on the move. The human boy was there, too, catching on to the portable radio Boxten always carried on his back.
G: “Hey, didn’t you turn that one off before we left? Boxten, get over here. There’s something up. I gotta clear it.” Gabriel motions the droid over with his hand.
B: “Huh? Again? That’s odd. Do you think it’s just the wind?” He’s a little skeptical at first, shuffling over in the snow and crouching beside Gabriel for him to move the moss around on his back.
G: “Oh please. The weather’s been treating us nicely today. There’s hardly anything going on right now out here so something’s bugging the radio for sure.”
The boy lifts the receiver and gives the old radio a few bangs with his fist. “Hey. Who is this? We got your lousy transmission and we’re kind of busy.”
Boxten felt he was just imagining things. Were they being pranked again like last week?

B: “Observer sounds familiar… I think I told you about this person, Gabe! Something about uhm… Servers last week? Or Survivors.”
Boxten leaned down to pick up whatever Gabriel had placed down. The droid didn’t mind too much since he was the stronger of the two, carrying a majority of the boxes.
Boxten didn’t say it now but he was glad he didn’t hear the transmission wrong those days ago.
G: “Survivors, huh… You wouldn’t be wrong. This is Gabriel Stenton and Boxten. You’ve reached our radio station.”
Gabriel huffs through the cold dry air, stuffing his free hand into one of the pockets of his dirty pink fur-lined parka.
G: “If you were contacting before then I’m guessing the weather’s screwed you up, too, then? Or would I be wrong? We don’t have the supply to help right now.”
Seems that Gabriel is tense today.

G: “Just someone to talk to… I think that can be managed. Yeah.”
He squints far ahead at the street upcoming, Gabriel looking at Boxten and gesturing to keep up.
G: “So what’s it like on your end? What kinda damages we talking? And what’s with the black goo? Is it some sort of new biomass?”
B: “New biomass? Oooh noo…”
"The damages are not that severe, just a few cracked windows and leaky ceiling."

"I dont think the black goo is a biomass? Its just in the corner of my room, moving occasionally. Only upside is that some mutants avoid it, especially some stretchy-armed mutant I keep seeing around lately."
G: “Stretchy-armed, you say? Avoiding some… pile of gunk.” Gabriel ponders in wonder. “If only we had that. Right, Boxy? Would save us a lot of trouble with the mutants we have here.”
B: “Mm!” Boxten nodded in agreement, the two beginning to climb uphill. “Definitely!”
G: “And honestly! Sunrise is going to shit with how many attacks we’ve received since Canada, USRF, the Coalies and mutants started going to war.”
As the two were walking further into Sunrise City Gabriel paused, turning towards the nearby abandoned Art Institution. He motions Boxten to wait where he was, offering him the receiver.
Boxten of course accepted, placing his boxes down and holding it up to his speaker while Gabriel went ahead
B: “So Observer! What’s it like where you are? Are you on-island or not? Are the locals friendly?”
"Hmm.. Where I am, nature pretty much covers the whole place, and its thick with trees. As for the locals.. I don't really think anyone's out here, aside from the occasional mutant. I just stay in some forest cabin I found."

G: “Survivors, huh… You wouldn’t be wrong. This is Gabriel Stenton and Boxten. You’ve reached our radio station.”
Gabriel huffs through the cold dry air, stuffing his free hand into one of the pockets of his dirty pink fur-lined parka.
G: “If you were contacting before then I’m guessing the weather’s screwed you up, too, then? Or would I be wrong? We don’t have the supply to help right now.”
Seems that Gabriel is tense today.

B: “New biomass? Oooh noo…”
"The damages are not that severe, just a few cracked windows and leaky ceiling."

"I dont think the black goo is a biomass? Its just in the corner of my room, moving occasionally. Only upside is that some mutants avoid it, especially some stretchy-armed mutant I keep seeing around lately."
G: “Stretchy-armed, you say? Avoiding some… pile of gunk.” Gabriel ponders in wonder. “If only we had that. Right, Boxy? Would save us a lot of trouble with the mutants we have here.”

G: “And honestly! Sunrise is going to shit with how many attacks we’ve received since Canada, USRF, the Coalies and mutants started going to war.”
As the two were walking further into Sunrise City Gabriel paused, turning towards the nearby abandoned Art Institution. He motions Boxten to wait where he was, offering him the receiver.
Boxten of course accepted, placing his boxes down and holding it up to his speaker while Gabriel went ahead
