you guys ever think of how grace and rocky have slowly assimilated into each other in all the years theyve spent alone together. you guys ever think of grace becoming more and more eridian and rocky becoming more and more human.

grace picking up the habit of humming simple eridian words. grace tapping his foot twice when he's asking a question. grace instinctively hiding away when eating. grace being unable to sleep unless someone's watching him. grace saying hello and goodbye the way eridians do.

rocky tilting his carapace to convey emotions. rocky turning to "face" grace even when he has omnidirectional hearing. rocky attempting to emulate human gestures with his biology. rocky learning of hugs and kisses and wanting to give and receive them all the time.

they're both not quite human. they're both not quite eridian either. not quite on earth, and not quite on erid just yet. just grace and rocky, among the stars. like the hail mary is their own planet and the universe is the sun she orbits. just them. no one else.

Grace having left over vodka and asking the Eridian scientists to make him more, without telling Rocky or Adrian.. the scientists find the ethanol and think that Grace must not know how bad it is and tell Grace but then Grace explains that no, that is the entire point please leave the dangerous chemical in thank you.

So the scientists immediately assume Grace has completely lost it and tell Rocky and Adrian and it goes like this:

Scientist: so.. Grace has requested we make him a kind of human drink..

Adrian: okay? Is there an issue?

Scientist: see- the thing is- it has a chemical that is quite harmful to humans but he insists we leave it in?? It’s called ethanol and-

Rocky: NO NO DO NOT MAKE IT GRACE IS STUPID WHEN HES DRUNK NO PLEASE-

Rocky clicker training Grace without Grace knowing..

When Rocky discovers how humans can just.. tune people out he is hocked and more importantly very annoyed because he’ll try to get Grace’s attention and half the time he’s just nodding along or just doesn’t answer while he’s doing something

So one day Grace is doing just that, barely nodding along while doing something on the laptop and Rocky has a thought; “loud noises wake up humans while they’re sleeping, could they also be used to snap them into focus?” Rocky tests his hypothesis with a loud whistle, and to Rocky’s utter delight Grace immediately snaps his head up and looks at Rocky with a confused expression.

So he starts using it when he wants Grace’s attention, repeating that same exact whistle with perfect volume and pitch, at first Grace is a bit annoyed but he usually forgets about it when Rocky starts talking, but slowly over time there’s barely a reaction, Infact, Grace starts reacting quicker and without thought.

Rocky, ever curious, sees if he can get Grace to associate other sounds with certain things. He’s sure it won’t work, but he’s bored out of his mind and well. For science!!

So whenever Grace eats, Rocky will make a barely audible clicking sound before hand and Grace doesn’t notice, after a week or two of this Rocky decides to test it out

So when Grace inevitably forgets to eat one day, instead of Rocky annoying Grace into doing it, he just does the clicking sound, he doesnt expect it to actually do anything but low and behold a moment later Grace looks up and says “huh. Hey Rocky I might take a break and go eat, wanna come?”

Rocky has to do everything in his power not to cackle evilly with his new found power

OK but trans woman Grace whose voice gets a little softer on that good good Erid estrogen and it turns out to hit a pitch thats bewitching for Eridians as well, seeing as the Eridian beauty standard revolves around sound. Just soft and rich and warm and husky and everyone Grace talks to is swooning gently and seething with jealousy at Rocky and Adrian for managing to bag this absolute chime. (Erid slang, equivalent to someone being called an absolute snack on Earth.) And boy howdy to Grace's spouses know everyone is jealous and they are deeply smug about it, encouraging their darling darling Grace to sing for them, dear, we so love your voice...

Omg yes I love every single word in this, Grace having a beautiful deep and soft voice and sounding like a literal siren to eridians yesyesyes ALSO "chime" as an eridian slang compliment is so fantastic i'm adopting this word immediately

also Im thinking about Grace's students loving her voice, and then talking with their parents like "Mrs Grace's voice is so beautifulsoftpretty!" and the parents sometimes attend their classes to check out on their kids and rumors start spreading about Graceteacher's voice that sounds like rumbling thunder and bells and Grace notices more and more parents staying for her classes thinking "wow they're really involved in their kid's education :·3"

Rocky and Adrian bitch a little about Grace 'making the single parents distraught' but secretly enjoy taunting people that Grace is THEIR mate

Grace who is visible stressed and half covering his ears but also trying to listen: what’s going on?? I can’t hear you guys it’s too loud- Rocky what’s going on?!

Grace just nods with bleary eyes and knocks out almost immediately, and the other Eridians are giving Rocky the equivalent of a raised eyebrow in unison.

I love imagining that every eridian welcome committee comic takes place in the same universe and that grace just never said anything about it.

He doesn’t call them out on it cause that might mean that they will actually research phrases more and second guess themselves a lot. And that would mean the cards would stop. Which would be a shame.

But like this he gets a fun little puzzle every week or so where he tries to guess what the committee is trying to say this time. He can rate the cards on funniness and clarity!

I’d like to think that he explains what a lot of them sound like towards the end of his life after having received thousands of cards filled with innuendos and catcalling. The committee doesn’t emotionally recover for the rest of their lives.
