Can’t decide how to interpret this. Perhaps: pink isn’t ‘just for girls’? Or deep down pink is really, really scary?
Yeah. Both.

It’s that time of year: back to school. In Noon Recess, American artist Winslow Homer shows us a one-room schoolhouse, complete with blackboard and world map, whose teacher keeps an eye on children playing outside while also supervising a student who remains indoors during lunchtime. Whether you’re a teacher or a student, we wish you luck as you pack up your supplies for the first day back.

Ancient Egyptian scarab ring dated to the New Kingdom, or a. 1540-1400 BCE. Found on Antiquarium, Ltd.
Georges Fouquet, Brooch, designed by Charles Desrosiers, 1901.
Large brooch of gold and enamel in the form of a hornet hovering by a flower, the stem of the flower curves back on itself then swirls into the distance.
This brooch combines the ‘wavy line’ and the inspiration of flowers and insects - all typical features of Art Nouveau jewellery. It was acquired by the Museum directly from the Salon de la Société des Artistes in Paris in 1901. The Director of the V&A at the time commented on its relevance to art and design students ‘as illustrating modern techniques in adapting various materials to new developments of ornamental design’.
