as an oxford grad who frequently works with luxury brands/attends high end brand events, i am weirdly uniquely qualified to judge many moments from the art of sarah lmao
ik lots of ppl are gagged by it but overall it was just fine, pretty well done + didnt bite off more than it could chew but i wasnt blown away
as far as the bags...
the allegory of craftsmanship and identorial self fashioning in the context of luxury and esp handbags was certainly easy to grasp, it's one of the most visible luxury items + easy gendered link bc femininity/feminine identity played a significant role + bags are probably the easiest to fabricate within the logistics of the plot, even if u dont know much about brands. plus, the idea of leatherwork and hardware = skin and jewellery is quite cute. im curious why they picked hermes/prada/dior as the main brands, chanel for the old lady was.....obvious lmao. but like prada was fine being portrayed like that fr?? i didnt parse any hard significance.
also like i do not think people care about being """deceived""" by quality lol. if the montblanc/loro piana/italian luxury supply chain controversy is anything to go off of, buyers dgaf. the idea that buying branded items is expressly a status related marker is not shocking or revolutionary, it's a very fundamental aspect of branding and marketing. even the whole "made in london" thing struck me as smart tbh; legally i believe the made in tag only applies to the country a product is assembled in. if anything the show needed to do more to convince me there was some huge drama to the scandal.
anyway idk i just finished the show and have lots of hmm thoughts but i am lazy to type them. (is the only trivia they knew about oxford that people love rowing?) curious to know if people felt knowing/not knowing the brands affected their understanding of the show. for example, i was intrigued by the choice to make a key watch an ap and not a rolex -- the latter wouldve likely been much easier for most viewers to equate to an expensive watch? even though an openworked royal oak has more iykyk cache
