✧ Biography Bits | full bio here
Born and raised in San Diego by his Guyanese immigrant parents. A few years later, his sister was born and he immediately wanted to protect her from anything bad in the world
His family was low income and his parents never fully learned English, creating a lot of issues for Mo and his sister as they grew up. They navigated as best they could.
He discovered sports through a rec center that was close enough he could walk. He worked there when he was old enough to offset the fees for the teams he wanted to join, and there were more than a few, but baseball was the only one he consistently loved.
He survived in large part because of his best friend, Eliie. To him, she is the sun. She can do anything and be anything, but he feels like maybe he can too as long as she's in his corner.
Did not hesitate to take a baseball scholarship to the University of Florida, where he played for all four years of eligibility, rallying from a couple of shoulder injuries as time went on. After the second one, he had every indication a professional baseball career wasn't going to be a long-term option, so he secured a bachelor's degree with more specificity than most of his teammates.
After college, he played Triple A ball in Iowa for a few years, getting called up to the Cubs a few. All too soon, the shoulder injury he'd been working on through most of college ended his career.
It took some time, but he found a job as a strength and conditioning coach, eventually sliding over to the analytics side of things and using his college degree to analyze player performance and suggest mechanical things players can do to up their game.
Over the last couple of years, he's started coaching Little League and volunteering in a nearby Boys & Girls Club in an effort to fill the time he's usually sll alone in the world.
After Ellie lost her job, he invited her to stay with him to get back onto her feet. While he doesn't ever want to see her struggle, having her near for the first time in a long time was kind of a relief.
He and Ellie are co-habitating well. He's not surprised. She's the most consistent person in his life at this point, in spite of their different interests and paths.
