In a time when labels are feeling the hardships almost, if not just, as bad as the band themselves I ask "Why should you go for one?"
I do this in light of several labels, in all genres of music, rearing their heads to reveal that even if they promise you world, for the most part, they will get theirs first. I'm not saying this to discourage you from being signed to that beloved label of your dreams. I am however just asking for you to think "What does this label do that I can not?" if the answer is not much or nothing at all, then why force yourself into a debt ridden future that most bands end up drowning underneath. Today bands have the means to be their own label, management, merch supplier, and all around self contained entity. With things like social media and sites like Vimeo, YouTube, and Bandcamp you really don't have to wait for a label to help put you in the spotlight. It is all up to how much you wanna put into it, how much you wanna tour, if you want this as a life or if you want this as a mere weekend hobby.
There are labels now with Bandcamp accounts, just so they can get that one customer that can't get an album in their country. So why not be that way for yourselves? Everything, short of the power of their name, they have to use you have to use. They tweet about upcoming releases, they post full album streams, they have exclusive merch, they have all this and so do you. Its a struggle regardless if you're with a label or not. Just signing to a label doesn't cure all you're problems. You'll get a few bucks up front to take care of some issues, maybe allowing you to get a van, and maybe enough to pay for some gear. But let me be clear THERE IS NOTHING FREE. Even if you get sponsored, unless its a full sponsorship, you'll still have to decide rather or not the discount is worth it and pay out of pocket.
I really want to make it understood I am in no way bashing labels, I am just shedding some light on past ideals that are somewhat dead. You can and will probably be signed at some point if you become that desired, but why just jump into one because it's "what you're supposed to do." Hell there are even labels that I love very very very much that if it were not for them I'd never ever had found a band. BUT there are a lot A LOT of bands that i found all on my own and without any label support behind them.
So in closing I wish you all the best luck in your future music endeavors, i just ask you be smart about them.
Sincerely,

letlive. - Banshee (Ghost Fame)
I have to say im more than amazed with this band. I found them randomly last year and was sucked into the chaotic nature of their... everything. The vocals seem to use words as a paintbrush and the vocal chords as paint. The music is just as mind blowing pulling from all genres and defying the constraints of each one. Not to mention few bands can catch the chaos this band has when preforming. letlive. does just that. You feel the craziness and the intent of every word. Their infectious tones drive me to believe this is the face of what rock/alternative/metal music is and will become. Not just random screaming over of heavy down tuned guitars fussed with melodic tempos, but a melting pot of sonic ambiance that can transport you to feeling of the artist.
Blackest Beautiful comes out July 9th, via Epitaph Records

Chimaira - Crown of Phantoms Teaser
A teaser was released earlier this week of the new Chimaira album, Crown Of Phantoms, in its entirety. I have to say from a fans perspective, this album almost goes back to the way Chimaira used to sound back in the day. i was only disappointed with one album, Infection, to me it didn't have the same heaviness that they're so well known for. Crown of Phantoms seems to be going back to that, and i love that even through all the line-up changes it still sounds like Chimaira.
The single, All Thats Left Is Blood, is up for download here.
Crown Of Phantoms drops July 30th on eOne Music

Defeater - Bastards
I hadn't a clue of this band, which is something i like to happen, and I have to say I listened to the song at least 4 times before telling myself to move on to other music for the rest of the day's post. If you're interested in getting a feel for this band before the album drops? They have 2 albums up on Spotify. The single, bastards, is coming from their album debut, Letters Home, for Bridge Nine. Id say give it a listen if you want to hear the chaos and angst of early punk but with a melodic hardcoreish vibe to it.
Letters Home comes out July 17th through Bridge Nine.
Pre-Orders for the album in all its forms: CD/LP/DIGITAL over here .
Defeater can be seen this summer on the VANS WARP TOUR starting July 11 and running to August 4th.

Motionless In White - America
This will be the 3rd video off of Motionless In White's Infamous. The video was directed by Shawn "Clown" Crahan of Slipknot. You can tell because Clown has a really weird feel to every thing he does, be it something subtle or something very blatant. The best part about this video is that the theme of the song, which is very obvious "America", isnt hokey in its representation. Give it a look see if you feel so inclined.
Infamous is out now on Fearless records.

I feel as though when SCALE THE SUMMIT write music they make musical landscapes to get lost in. I haven't a clue as to rather or not the album cover, which is bad ass, has anything to do with their upcoming album The Migration, but to me i was almost instantly transported to the creature on it and its movement throughout this song. Then again I am just a bit weird, so give this beautiful single, Oracle, a listen. By the way its best if you just lay back and shut your eyes to this.
The Migration by SCALE THE SUMMIT comes out June 11th on Prosthetic Records.
