Synopsis:
The first four AF Studio LP’s to me were pure gold, every studio LP after those, I cant be bothered with for the most part. Heres partly why, After AF broke up or went on hiatus, Madball took off and the NYHC scene began to grow again, only then did AF decide to do a reunion show at the Wetlands which I was at. Good times, then they realized that this was an opportunity and they rode the waves. Good for them, if a band can make a living on their art congrats all around. Sadly though what came out was a bunch of lp’s and ep’s such as this one that play as if the band is just going through the motions. Sorry, but I cant listen to lyrics about the lower east side and street life in NYC from a band where band members live in Arizona or LA now (cough H2O). Im too cynical for that. To me that means that you are milking the old days and its tiring. Songs about the hardcore scene that I venture to guess you are a part of unless your band is playing a show. AF is a franchise, for some its a household name and thats fine. If you enjoy it, continue to do so, but I need originality to keep my interest. Ramones, Punk Rock whoa’s, LES Skins and Stigma chants, next please.
Bridge 9 usually makes a noteworthy release package, here, not so much. No insert, screen printed one side of DM’s meh, 2 songs found on an upcoming release? Not one unreleased or live b-side? I jumped the gun and bought the presale package, im happy to have the additions to my collection but I couldve waited and bought them on the aftermarket as well.
