Lamina had ran from the exhaust organ. It was suffocating and they needed to visit their sister. They knew Phantom would worry about them but they’d be back soon. They ran through the mists. Even though the crushing weight of grief on their spine made them want to lay down and never move again.
The wraiths swirled around Lamina curiously but they paid them no mind. Darting into Sinner’s Road and nearly falling into the maggot ridden waters. They carefully climbed down a wall and hopped to a platform. Sneaking past the roach keeper unnoticed. Hopping down glancing curiously at an empty jail cell.
They ran past the muckroaches chasing them, stumbling out into Greymoor. Their fur flattening down in damp cold clumps. Lamina shivered but continued on until they spotted a faint blue glow in the distance. They ran towards it. Seeing their sister, wrapped in glowing blue vines. The butterflies fluttering their wings smugly. As if laughing to Lamina that they had their sister. And they didn’t.
Lamina started to cry slowly creeping towards Bappie and gently headbutting their face.
So why does it hurt so much that they don’t bounce up and warble at Lamina.
Lamina lies down next to Bappie. They don’t care that the vine squish under them.
They close their eyes and sleep.
They dream Lamina is there, so is Sable and Thistle. They’re standing on a small flat rock. Well Lamina is, Sable and Thistle float just above it. Looking out at the ocean in every direction.
A giant head rises. Breaking the surface of the water. Several glowing blue eyes staring at them.
Another little one? Throwing themself to my control? How delightful!!
Lamina stares at the being afraid. Backing away but water laps at their fur. They are cornered. Vines rise from the sea. Twisting around them. Choking them.
The sensation of being strangled by vines in a dream is suddenly made more real as Lamina wakes. Caught in the vines next to Bappie.
Is Lamina hallucinating? Or does Bappie seem to be crying? Or does it matter as Lamina’s vision is fading to blue, to black. And then they are gone.
