new gundam game looks neat as a mecha game, but i Haaaaate that it's gundam

thinking about this more. it sucks so bad that it's space kaiju shit. a big through-line of gundam is human conflict, and having it be "oops we're under attack by giant space aliens !!!!" feels so disgustingly un-gundam. i'm really really hoping there's at least some kind of twist where these things have sentience and have human-like civilisations or Something to have some kind of way to have some nuance to "we're slicing giant monster dudes in half"

i dont want to become one of those kneejerk "new thing bad" people, but it sucks soooooo bad that every single semi-niche IP is incentivised to make new shit appeal to the broadest audience possible. everything is monster hunter world now and explicitly worse for it

i wont harp on about this more than this this reblog but the incentive for this kind of stuff is usually The Average Person looking at something and saying "well i know that this has an audience and i'd like to look into it because there's aspects i like, but XYZ (eg political/interpersonal drama in gundam, general friction in monster hunter, motion inputs in fighting games) is stopping me from doing so", so the average shareholder pleasing response is to strip out XYZ instead of telling those people to suck it up and engage with these things and actually learn to experience something. what's worse is when these new filed down versions of these things are made, and the fans of those things begin to act like they're an authority on the Thing As A Whole and it all becomes worse because of it
