People discussing ‘unhinged’ fanfiction always seem to talk about dark!fic or explicit stuff, as opposed to the truly unhinged stuff like the fic author zapping all their favs from a story onto a set, assigning them roles, and forcing them to act out popular movies. Because, let me tell you, I read a fic like that with the original Yugioh cast acting out Disney’s Aladdin approximately fifteen years ago, and it is to this day one of the one of the most unhinged pieces of media I’ve ever consumed.

If you wanna know the state of Yugioh TCG collecting in the wake of Overframes in the core game…
The situation is so funny man
Basically, Mr grifter announced that he might be getting into the collecting side of yugioh, which would lead to the scalping hell that now plagues the Pokémon and One Piece TCGs
As a joke, MBTYugioh gave them pointers on what to “invest in”, recommending some of the WORST shit products that this game released in the years
He then followed up with a tongue-in-cheek, clearly trolling video recommending shit like Legendary Duelists sets, Duelist of Deep and Synchro Storm, and the Platinum cards, and exclusive COINS before ending the video with “Don’t invest in yugioh. You will lose money due to this game’s reprint policies”
Like, it was very obvious for anyone with half-a-brain cell and is familiar with Yugioh that the video is a joke
BUT a bunch of scalping bots took the video at face value and bought out these doodoo, worthless products immediately after his fuckass video came out
Now they’re sitting on unsellable trash. 100% deserved, I hope everyone whose trying to grift this game like Pokémon loses their money

Okay I wanna ramble for a second! I was reading the manga and the moment in the Battle City finals where Yami Bakura gets switched out with Ryou during the first duel came up. And everything about that moment is sooooo interesting. Like, look at what Yugi says after the duel:
This is like a DIRECT parallel to the moment in Duelist Kingdom where Kaiba threatened to jump off the castle wall if Yami went through with his attack. Here, Ryou was in danger of dying due to the strain of getting blasted point blank by Osiris while being weakened from his injury. Two tournaments. Two opponents at risk of dying if Yami attacks. Everything is on the line.
The thing I find soooo fascinating is that in Duelist Kingdom, Yami ended up doing the attack, but here in Battle City, he's unable to. It isn't until Yami Bakura takes back over and Ryou is no longer in danger of dying that Yami is finally able to order the attack. This is direct, observable evidence of Yami learning kindness from Yugi! That's so cool!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhh my goodness, the manga is so good.

Season 0 my beloved. I’ve been watching it with my friends and it reminded me how cool the vibe of early yugioh was.
I’m also very fond of Yami’s gloopy shadow form. I wish they kept more of that in Duel Monsters.

Okay apparently this falls under ‘everyone totally noticed this [loud incorrect buzzer]’
So uh- about the fact that Thief King Bakura hauls Atem’s father in on a rope and why that detail of the rope is important:
TKB in this moment is making a demand of the pharaoh and his mages. Return the millennium items to me. And it’s important that he’s using specifically desecrated corpse of Atem’s father on a rope as his argument.
(Don’t you see my rage, pharaoh? My grief? It kills you to see your only family denied rest to be put on display, do you understand why I hate you for wearing my family and everyone I’ve known on a rope around your own neck?! Don’t you see?! Here is your father! Now give me mine back!!!)
And Atem doesn’t listen. Doesn’t know what to listen for. (And nobody who does would care to.) pushes Bakura aside and— (apparently a dead pharaoh deserves more human decency let alone respect than the boy he wronged. Apparently talking with these assholes doesn’t work. Time for plan B.)
(Also as an aside the anime has the whole sarcophagus dragged in by a horse which muddies the symbolism somewhat but is still making the same fundamental argument.
