origin of blogs name

The moss part of my username comes mostly from Cosmo Sheldrake's song "The Moss" :D There was this one very popular Flipnote AMV for the song by SurohHorus on yt that was a huge inspiration to me early in my digital art journey, it still pops into my head from time to time 🙏 I'm also a huge fan of the color green and anything nature related soooooo it just fit well :D

When deciding on a suffix I think I landed on -kid since online (and especially art/fandom) spaces have always been a sort of get-away for me to not think too much about irl responsibilities, kinda like being a kid again. From what I've seen so far I think Tumblr will be a great little corner for me to shove all my Outer Wilds related obsession drawings/rambles into :D

I don't eat out much (poor student core) but if we're out with friends im usually ordering just fries lol Most places still don't have too many good vegetarian options :'D

Not rly considered ordering food per say but I do often get clowned on by my friends for always buying this specific brand of vitamin water lmao I think there's around 15 empty bottles of it on my desk right now and 1 in my bag, I hardly go out without having one on me 💀🫶

comfort movie, book, show and game

For comfort movie I'd have to pick Laputa: Castle in the Sky (or any Ghibli movie rly) I grew up on Ghibli films and they probably made up half of my personality as a teenager :D

For book I'll go with "The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making" by Catherynne M. Valente. I read it first when I was fairly young, loved it then and it's stuck with me ever since 🙏 Probably also kick-started my dragon obsession along with the HtTYD-movies lol

I don't really watch shows tbh so I don't think I have anything for this one :'''D

As for game, I mean yeah Outer Wilds but also Rain World and Sky:CotL, though for actual comfort whenever life feels out of control its most often Minecraft 🫶

Currently it's "Aleksis Kiven kadulla" by Plutonium 74, I heard this one from a few uni friends and it instantly became one of my favorite songs lol A good mix of Finnish indie feel with a breakcoreish beat 🙏 Even if you don't speak the language I recommend this one, the lyrics are rly fast anyway so it can be difficult to follow even for a native speaker lmao

Uhh well if I didn't make it clear enough..... Outer Wilds :D I first heard about this game probably the year it came out but didn't get around to playing it until a few months ago. I fell in love with the story and then the community right after. The creativity that I've seen from the people creating amazing fanart and fics and other works for this game has been so inspiring!! I wish I had more time to create art 😭 I have so many ideas but so little time :''D

oddly specific thing that gives me joy

The way sunlight shines into my room in the evening. Just the warm glow illuminating all my favorite things in my own space makes me feel really calm and happy :D

Plushies I guess ??? I'm not really too secretive about my interests and honestly think everyone should be able to enjoy whatever they like even if those things are considered childish by some. If you're not hurting anyone then what the hell go for it 💥

Ohhh now this is a cool one :D So in 2023 I got the opportunity to take part in this program where upper secondary school students got to remotely control the NOT-Telescope located at La Palma and photograph any deep sky object we wanted!

My home screen is a false color picture I took and processed during that program in 2023 and in 2025 I managed to get the chance to go on an actual week long visit to La Palma and got to take pictures live on location at the observatory! My lock screen is an edited picture of a 2-image mosaic photo I took during that trip! :D

1st image: M74 aka the Phantom Galaxy, a large spiral galaxy, false color image with BVR filters

2nd image: NGC2903, a barred spiral galaxy, colors edited, mosaic photo combined from 2 images

Learned the basics of astrophotography from this and I've been slowly trying to get into the hobby with my own equipment lately. Just bought (hopefully) the last adapter I need to start experimenting with taking photos through my own telescope :DD

Night owl, hopelessly so. Born to got to bed at 4am and wake up at 5pm, forced to still go to bed at 4am but wake up at 8am for morning lecture 🙏🙏🙏

if you work, what is your profession and do you like it?

I'm not currently working but I am a university freshman studying astronomy! I absolutely love it even though physics is so insanely difficult 💀 Kind of getting cooked by the actual maths side of things but I've been enjoying the astronomy and coding related courses a lot!

I've wanted to study space ever since I was a kid so this has been a dream come true. I've already learned so much and also met so many cool people who are also interested in the same things as me :D Just a few days ago I got to go out with some of my fellow astronomy students and take long exposure photos of deep sky objects on a 60cm diameter telescope! :D It's so insanely cool I'm actually getting to do these things myself now, I'm beyond happy 🫶

"A moment to smell the pine trees"

Aaghh it's finally done! This is my very quantum very Gabbro gift for @gabbrofan27 for the @outerwilds-events Quantum Entanglement Exchange 2026, hope you like it! :D

Some rambling and extras below the cut 💫⬇️

The prompt for this was "A moment of rest away from all of the noise, either shared with a friend/s or alone." And originally I was going to draw Gabbro and Hatchy hanging out under a tree because I'm a sucker for all things Time Buddies lol. Ended up going a different route though and made this instead! :D

The background was a lot more difficult to draw than I expected, mostly because of the treeeessss :'D I went really experimental with this one and tried a lot of techniques out of my comfort zone so drawing this was honestly very fun. I loved adding all the little details and the sky came out so well, I'm really happy with it!

My fav details probably being Felds telling stories to some of the little ones around the campfire and also the Orbital Probe Cannon circling Giant's Deep!

Being a part of this event was awesome, I'm so glad I took the time to participate even if life got a little busy for me towards the end! <3

Also as compensation for no Time Buddies in this drawing, here's some rly small doodles I did of Gabs and my Hatchling oc Mylonite :D

I had a lot of fun making this! getting started on it was a bit of a struggle because I wanted to do something that wasn't just a digital drawing! and once I settled on doing a relief print, it really limited the scope of my composition ideas.

I initially just had the image with the closeup of Gossan's face, but it felt like it was missing... something..... narratively and compositionally. so I added another print above it with the perspective flipped! I think it looks a lot more complete now :3

here's some images of the carving process! I used 4"x6" rubber blocks, and black cranfield safewash ink. my transfer method is scuffed as hell so you can ignore that lol, but you can see how tiny some of the cuts were! crazy

I also decided to carve these onto rubber blocks instead of my usual battleship grey linoleum which. idk. I still prefer battleship grey I think? it's a lot harder (firm) and I can get more defined shapes, since rubber can more easily squish and move around while carving/printing. and I really like the feedback you get from carving into harder material (I think I would LOVE woodblock printing lowkey). but without a press, rubber, being way softer, is less laborious to print with. I have also heard that rubber is easier to print on fabric with too! so I may or may not try that? we shall see ::)
