18: How does your Hatchling approach problem solving? Do they try to think through the problem, attempt to brute force the issue, or stumble across solutions accidentally?

They started out very methodical, looking over every ruin and location for clues, and then jetting off to try something as soon as they read about it, but once they started hitting walls and getting frustrated they tried brute forcing things (they got into the tower of quantum knowledge by slingshotting around the black hole, after many, many failures and loops cut short, only to have it fall while they were reading, and realize it could have been way easier. 🤦) In later loops, they took things slower and were more inclined to sit with the pieces and puzzle things out.

19: Where does your Hatchling hang out when they are on Timber Hearth?

The geyser pools (both in the village and around the base of the mountains,) they like water, and unsuprisingly, the nomai ruins crater, they'd go there with Hal and Riebeck ::]

22: What is your Hatchling’s favorite space tool? Examples include signal scope, translator tool, little scout?

They used the scout most frequently, took some pointers from Chert and used it to find landmarks before trekking halfway around a planet, and loved taking pictures with it, but the translator tool is absolutely their baby.

11: What is your Hatchling’s favorite color?

They like dark green!

12: What is your Hatchling’s favorite food or dish?

So, like a lot of the fandom I have a bunch of headcanons about hearthian food, but I haven't sat down and written it all out yet. I think Clast would like crunchy food the best, like fried veggies and fish skin, or herb and pine nut stuffed cicadas. Alsooo they like the crunch of burnt marshmallows, but hate the taste and the way the char sticks to their tongue.

25: If your Hatchling had to pick a job other than astronaut what would it be?

Probably a craftsperson or builder, and on-planet archeologist to study nomai artifacts brought back to Timber Hearth. Growing up, Clast spent a lot of time around Gniess, Slate, and later Tektite when Marl and Hal apprenticed, so they know how to and enjoy helping out with repairing cabins, and making tools, they built the casing for the translator tool. They like taking things apart to understand how they work.

29: If the time loop had never happened, what kind of astronaut would your Hatchling have become?

They were on track to follow in Feldspar's footsteps as a pilot and practical scientist(?) Someone that just went places, asked questions, and experimented with their surroundings. They didn't end up that far off honestly, but outside the loops they would have been a lot more cautious and focused on bringing back nomai tech to study and integrate into hearthian tools with Slate.

41: Was your Hatchling tempted to break space time? If so, did they suspect what would happen?

Sorely tempted, but they figured the nomai probably had good reasons to keep sand out of the high energy lab and only use the ash twin project to send data back, rather than anything physical. Their main theory was that it would explode (hearthian sensibilities + the bit of dialogue from the atp terrible fate ending)

17: Is your Hatchling more likely to sass Slate, or leave them wondering why Gossan is letting an airhead launch?

Sass most of the time! Clast is very sarcastic, and blew themself up enough times that yeah they know it's pilot error, but autopilot pissed them off and who better to rant to about your most recent death than the person who built the blasted deathtrap and happens to be sitting right next to you when you wake up. They also started syaing ominous things for fun at the start of every loop, but that often led to Hornfels radioing them in concern, and later in the loops talking to anyone at all was hard ::(

33: Would your Hatchling oc want hatchlings of their own?

They hadn't really thought about it yet by their launch day, and once enough loops passed for them to start putting things together, they had a hard time conceptualizing a life outside the loops in which people grew and changed, it wasn't an option, and wasn't something that mattered to them. In a no loop or post loop au, Clast might have had an egg but I think they would have just been happy to look after the other hatchlings.

48: How does your Hatchling really feel about The Eye?

Deeply curious, and interested in it from all they read from the nomai (especially after talking with Solanum,) and they spent some time being more scared of it after seeing the owlk's reels, but... in the end there was nothing else to explore, and that sort of reverent curiosity they picked up from the nomai (and a timeloop nurtured lack of self preservation) outweighed the fear. They broke down after the vessel warp though.

13 - How does your Hatchling like their marshmallows ?

Slightly roasted ! Quartz don't like when their mallow lost their chewiness inside, so they just roast them a couple of seconds, just until they get a light color and enough crunchiness and they're done ! They also like them just raw, but would be a shame to them raw next to a nice campfire-

19 - Where does your Hatchling hang out when they are on Timber Hearth?

Usually, besides their home, they spend most of their time at the observatory or at the hatchlings cabin to look after the little ones.

46 - Does your Hatchling tend to agree more with the Nomai or the Owlks regarding The Eye? Why?

As much as Quartz was scared of what would happen with the Eye and all, they didn't agree with the Owlks. They have the mindset of "If something happens, it's for a reason", especially when that something is a call from the Eye of the Universe. I don't know if that's clear I'm sorry lmao, almost midnight in my timezone I struggle to find my words 😂 Anyway- Plus, they found they Owlks a tiny bit extreme in their decisions. They understood more the Nomai approach and admired their curiosity !

Heey !! Thank you for the ask ! ❤️ 22- What is your Hatchling’s favorite space tool? Examples include signal scope, translator tool, little scout? It plays between the signalscope and the translator tool. As a big nomai enjoyer, the translator tool is incredible for them. They always wanted to be able to decript their writings, to learn everything possible about them. And the signalscope is more like a emotional support. During difficult times, it's a way to hear that they're not alone in the solar system. When a loop is too harsh, instead of meditating to the next one, Quartz just sat down and use their signalscope to hear the travelers' playing. It's very conforting to them.

23- Does your Hatchling have an instrument? If so, what is it? Yeess !! They're playing the lyre harp ! They love how soft it sounds and how they can easily carry it around. They're also playing the lyre for the young hatchlings' nap time to make them fall asleep.

26 - Why did your Hatchling join OWV? They're a big nomai enjoyer, their main goal was to explore the ruins and translate their writings. They could have wait for Riebeck's reports but concidering how scared of space Riebeck is, it would have take too much time for Quartz's liking.

Hi !! Thank you so much for the ask ! 14 - What is your Hatchling’s stance on sap wine? Why? Quartz really didn't like it at first. They thought sap wine was really disgusting but somewhat forced themselves to drink it to not be considered a hatchling anymore. They couldn't understand how some people were able to enjoy such an atrocity. With time, they're used to it, they don't find it disgusting anymore but they're still not the biggest fan of it. For now, they drink sap wine only during events and not that much on the everyday life. Maybe it'll change when they'll be older, but it's currently not their cup of tea. 15 - What does your Hatchling like to do with their free time? In the village when they're not training for the space program or learning things about the nomai, they spend most of their time looking after the young hatchlings. They always volunteer to babysit them, play with them... They're really at ease with the young ones ! Otherwise, they enjoy stargazing at night away from any disturbance, climbing in the trees... They like sewing too and create some accessories, but they're not very good at that. At least, they're trying ! Quartz is a social butterfly so they're also spending a lot of their free time wandering around the village to find someone to talk to, mostly Hal.

30- Which Villager did your Hatchling attach to most while they were growing up? It has to be Hornfels. Quartz didn't get their passion for space and the nomai from nowhere ! When they were little, they sneaked a lot into the museum and Hornfels taught Quartz a lot about mostly everything they knew about the stars, the solar system and the nomai. The observatory became their favorite place in Timber Hearth and they naturally grew very close to Hornfels. When Quartz left for the first time in space, they hoped to make Hornfels proud of them.
