Meeting Alex Brightman in Detroit

After meeting Alex Brightman in August, I wanted to make a piece of art to give him at a future convention. I wasn’t expecting him to return to the Midwest so soon so it was a nice surprise!

I wanted to make a Beetlejuice and 35mm a musical exhibition mashup piece since I listened to 35mm a lot when I was in high school. This was before I knew who Alex was. When I showed him it he got really excited and said no one had give him a piece of 35mm fanart before. He offered to sign the second copy I had, which was SO NICE. I was not expecting that at all.

He also attempted to facetime Ryan Scott Oliver and Matthew Murphy to show them which is so crazy! Neither of them picked up but he said he’d text them a photo. Very exciting!

He picked the quote, but it’s pretty fitting since this part of the song rattles around my brain very often. I’m so glad he liked it :)

Fun Finds at Motor City Comic Con

I was so excited to see Beetlejuice the musical art at the convention! I had a great time chatting with Chelsea Kirchhoff about Beetlejuice and meeting Alex Brightman last year!

Kaylee Yang drew these adorable cards of us in our cosplays! I adore them and she was so lovely to chat with!

And Rebecca Miller Illustration was also lovely to chat with! We talked about archaeology and her art prints are so cool!

Beetlejuice at Spring Motor City Comic Con!

I have returned to Motor City Comic Con this Spring! We decided to go on Saturday, which was probably the most crowded convention experience I have had so far! It was very hard to get around but it cleared up towards the late afternoon/evening.

Here’s a close-up of my makeup for anyone who wants a reference! I followed the official Beetlejuice the musical makeup tutorial on YouTube and added contouring on the forehead and eyebrows to add dimension. (Also glitter eyeshadow for fun!)

"Alice In Wonderland but dark!" That "The Wizard Of Oz but dark!" This, you know whats the pinnacle example of using the nostalgic and childlike concept of being stuck in a strange fairyland but making it ACTUALLY scary? Crazytown from 35MM by Ryan Scott Oliver preformed by Alex Brightman.

It's about a person named "The Idle Boy" (no real name given) in the world of Crazytown being hunted down by "Nightmares". At the end you think it's going to pull a Alice In Wonderland but it doesn't and its SO GOOD. 10/10 song listen to it rn

Beetlejuice at Motor City Comic Con

I wore my new Beetlejuice Cosplay! The trench coat covered up a lot of details on the suit but it so fun when put all together!

There were so many other great Beetlejuice cosplays (especially with Alex Brightman in town, that will be a future post)

Cosplay materials:

Trenchcoat: London Fog (thrifted), moss colored cotton with dried moss glued on top, grime is fabric paint applied with a sponge and paintbrushes

Suit: Opposuits (bought), grime is more fabric paint and occasionally watered down

Button up (thrifted): fabric paint for the stripes
