I miss us. I miss everything about us. But over the past few weeks, I cannot define what "us" is anymore.
Untitled
We are all our own masterpieces, created by the endless number of artists that have touched upon our lives; temporary, everlasting, and everything in between. We start off as a blank sheet of paper---clean, pure, and flawless (although that can be a flaw within itself). But as life begins to unfold before us, we are stained by the good, the bad, and the ugly. We are helpless, vulnerable templates exposed to the unknown. Happiness is inevitable, just as pain is unavoidable. Just when you entrust someone with your entirety, that same someone mercilessly crumbles us up into a ball. Tainted. Flawed. We aren't programs, in which we can press ctlr+z and the mistakes go away. We're just a piece of paper, where the wrinkles cannot be flattened out no matter how much we or others may try to. But everything that happens constitutes to our own masterpiece. Every stroke, every splatter, every rip and wrinkle determine the look that we display to others, and that is the only way we will portray ourselves. All masterpieces are different. You can never find two of the same artwork no matter how much they look alike, because there will always be the slightest stroke which you miss, or the tiniest wrinkle that you did not consider. There will be artworks that juxtapose each other in the ugliest ways, but yet, there will be others that complement each other beautifully. Each piece of paper will go through unimaginable experiences, but those are the experiences that will speak with each other in a way that only they can witness the beauty.
But of course, we are our own artists as well. We are our own original artist. We determine what to keep, what to omit, and how to respond and deal with certain problems. We are put out there in a vulnerable position, but yet, we can control that type of vulnerability. We control our final look, because it is the original artist that adds the finishing touches to his/her work.
Once in a while, the artist should take a step back to admire the work and progress made, and to admire the beauty of the steps taken to get there.
Friends make the bad times good, and the good times unforgettable.
Unknown
Dear Friend,
we've been friends for almost seven years now, but I'm still shocked to know that there are certain things you can't tell me. Sometimes, I hate myself for being such a "good girl" because people feel like they have to put up a clean front before me. I don't appreciate that. And to be honest, I'm offended that you feel that way. And sad. We're grown up...to an extent. Know that I've come to the point where I don't judge people based on their actions anymore. People can drink, smoke, and have sex all they want because I've come to accept that that's what people do. I am not going to think less of you as a person when you choose to make your own decisions. So please, feel free to talk about these things to me. I care. I care a lot about you. I care about your health, your lifestyle, and your well being. As long as you are safe, then I'm relieved. As long as nothing harms you mentally and physically, then go for it. Just live, because what's life without living? But I can't bring up this conversation if you always avoid it. I can't force it out of you either. So as a close friend, trust in me.
Not Your Girlfriend
I am not your girlfriend. Please don't touch me like one, hold me like one, talk to me like one. I can tolerate a lot of things, but I cannot tolerate someone who treats me the way you do, especially when you have no intention of dating me. Just because you want a girlfriend doesn't mean that you can use me to fill in for her. Just because you want a girlfriend doesn't mean that you can play with my feelings. Just because you want a girlfriend doesn't mean that you should be so good to me. It's unfair for the both of us. So please, I'm begging you, stop being so good to me.
Because once I fall, I fall hard despite the consequences.
And if you miraculously happen to begin to fall for me, then tell me before it's too late.
Because at the end of the day, you really only have yourself.
Filters.
What is the point in filters? Why do we have the option to filter our lives to make it seem better than it really is? Why can't we just accept things and people for what they really are, instead of adding or erasing the true elements that are already there? In reality, all of us are deceitful. We like to display our ideal lives with the vibrant colors, or lack thereof. It's weird, isn't it?
But what if we do have the option to filter our reality? What if we can erase the blemishes of our lives, and add in the nonexistent elements that make it better? We would only be creating an illusion for ourselves, so would our lives still be considered ideal then?
It's good to have high expectations, but for me, it easier to set them at a low. That way, I'd be less hurt when "it" doesn't rule in my favor.
