This is the dev blog for my current web comic Most of Our Town is Missing, a story about a demon radio talk show host who travels the world interviewing random people.

It's effectively meant to be an entertaining format for me to info dump and string together all the disjointed ideas I've had over the years into one coherent story.

Read it as individal pages are released on Comic Fury or as full chapter PDFs on Deviantart when each chapter is finished.

I didn't have time for World Building June this year because I was busy working on MOOTiM chapter 20, but I did conveniently need to make a bunch of background assets for that chapter referencing all previous chapters.

Here's closeups of 17 of the 20 drawings portraying events of the characters past, present of future.

3, 14 and 18 are omitted due to their spoiler-y nature, but the rest are context-less enough or have already been released. The one with Stan the demon king has had the contents of the chart removed for spoiler purposes as well]

Sometimes when you make a character, random factoids about them just kind of hit you out of nowhere. It's not a conscious decision. More like the universe beaming new information into your brain and you just immediately concur with it without any hesitation.

...Anyway, the universe just told me the ghost girl in chapter 15 is trans.

Reoccurring theme in this story seems to be "If someone states something that makes them sound like a delusional madman, there's a 90% chance they're actually telling the truth and just contributing to the absurdist worldbuilding"

One of my major goals for MOOTiM was to burn though the massive list or random, no-context ideas I've jotted down over the last 14 years. I've made a lot of progress but here's a breakdown of each category

Animals with designs- 100% Complete. As of right now, I have no made-up creatures that's I've drawn that don't appear within this comic or MEP 🎉

Animals with names, but no official design- This was a tricky category. There aren't a ton of opportunities to causally drop an animals name into conversation, especially when the animal isn't being shown. I have nearly a page left. My best hope is to come up with visual designs for them at some point, but they probably won't end up in the comic.

Characters- Complete. I actually had to come up with some new designs because I ran out...

Location names- Made a lot of progress since Perry likes to mention places he's been before, but there's still a bit left then half a page left. (Most of them are located in Canis for some reason?)

Food- Only about a dozen items left. I'll probably be able to work a decent amount in the remaining scripts

Stores- Complete. The city scenes helped me burn all those up

Non-food Products- About half a page. Mileage will vary with this one.

Names- Made tremendous progress, but I still have about 2/3 of a page. This one was hard since some characters don't mention their names. I'm trying to use the best ones first.

Frivolous Tidbits (out of context dialogue/situations)- I've resigned myself to the fact that there's no way to get all these in the comic since some of them are situation specific. Still, I'm using 1-2 pages per chapter and have two chapters left to write, so I'm hoping to get the list page count below 3. The rest will hopefully be used in the MOOTiM quickie pages.

MOOTiM Specific Ideas- Got a little over a page and a half left, but some of the dialogue text is multiple lines long, so it's not as bad as it sounds. I'm hoping I can get though most of them.

Ok I think the yellow one is female and the purple one is male

Their names are Phoebe and Jay. Phoebe is a female Panzer, Jay is a male Trompster. They seems to be in some sort of romantic relationship (although they get so little screen time the nature of which is never really revealed) Here's a Prototype design for them and thier finalized color key (Plus Ivor's bc I was too lazy to crop him out)

I went through a ton of different ideas for the Mariachi Bandits. Originally I was considering a sheltank, and a wallop with a bowie knife before I decided on the band theme. There were also going to be more members. Ideas included an iguana with an electric guitar that was actually electrified and a blazurus with a drum that functioned as a cannon. Eventually I condensed it down two two lackeys.

[Apparently there's some children's show on public television right now called Phoebe and Jay which pisses my off because I had no idea that existed when I came up with their names over a year ago. Maybe it didn't? I haven't seen an episode with a timestamp before 2026]
