The double Corrin combo!
Do you need a hug, Dad?
angst/ fluff with corrin being upset saizo won't show PDA
(Want to change the name? Use this!)
You noticed it when those feelings of loneliness manifested into frustration. Seeing Kaze walking with his wife, arms linked, sometimes holding hands, whenever out on trips to restock supplies. Saizo would walk beside you, but your husband refrained from public displays of affection.
It wasnāt anything you thought to hard about, considering his personality. But Saizo was capable of being lovingā¦it made you feel left out whenever you were in public.
Not because you wanted to be like everyone else, but because it almost made you feelā¦used, in a way. Your passions were reserved for evenings, and then you were awake alone in bed, your husband having disappeared until the next night.
It was rare you spent much time doing anything together, much less something like holding hands or linking arms. Your brow furrowed, mulling over your thoughts. Maybe it was because you never asked, you figured, looking up to your tall, handsome ninja.

my submission for the world around us zine!!! i love scarlet a lot and wanted to imagine what her convos with some of the other characters would be like since the game didnāt give us a chance to see it.. and selena is my forever girl so i had to pair them.
iād reccomend full view to read it!!!Ā
actually, if you're ever up for it, i'd love to hear your thoughts on queerbaiting in awakening.
oh man, you asked for itĀ
*ahem*Ā
Awakening is a game deeply, deeply embedded in heteronormativity. It has a system of marriage where pretty much every character can marry every other character of another gender, which in and of itself raises some unfortunate and untrue ideas about men and womenās relationships always having an undertone of romance and them never being able to just be friends.Ā
On top of this, despite the large cast of characters, and the fact that one of the characters is a self-insert, there are exactly zero options for any sort of same-sex romance. Not only is this highly unrealistic, but it also, in my opinion, unnecessarily limits a wider diversity and breadth of gameplay, reducing the number of potential experiences and the gameās replayability for the sake of adhering to certain constricting norms.Ā
Now, the explanations (not necessarily excuses) for this usually follow the lines ofĀ āwell, the reason for the marriage mechanic is the kids, and that wouldnāt work with gay relationshipsā (which i take severe issue with for many reasonsāthis is a fantasy game, after all, and the second generation doesnāt have kidsābut iāll leave that untouched for now), orĀ āNintendo is a conservative company, and they didnāt want to upset anybody by including gay content.āĀ
Nintendo is a conservative company, I agree. They likely didnāt want to upset anyone with gay content, I agreeāonly to an extent, though, which Iāll elaborate on later. However, I really canāt believe this is the full explanation for the decisionāin fact, Iām rather convinced that IS (or at least NoA, Iām not sure if this applies to the original Japanese script as well) possesses a level of malice towards LGBTQ+ people. And the reason I think this is the queer baiting.Ā
Despite the fact that only heterosexual relationships are allowed to come to fruition, the game clearly, explicitly teases you with the idea of same-sex romance and feelings of attraction only to deny actual representation. All for the sake of āhumor,ā it seems, as if taunting a segment of the player base that is already marginalized is the most hilarious thing in the world. There are innumerable examples of this. Take the F!Robin and Flavia supports, for example, where Robin is mistakenly convinced that Flavia is hitting on and trying to propose to her.Ā
Robin: K-Khan Flavia!Flavia: Well? Have you thought more about my proposal?Robin: Oh, er, right. You mean the one about me going to Regna Ferox?Flavia: And joining my family. Donāt forget that bit.Robin: Yes, about that. You see, Iām not entirely sure what it means. Because weāre both women, and⦠I mean, not that thereās anything wrong with that, butā¦Flavia: Yes? Andā¦? Weāre both women. Thatās no impediment as far as Iām concerned!Robin: It is for me!Flavia: Why? Isnāt it more important that we hold love for each other? Any other detailsāRobin: This is a bit more than a detail!Ā
Note the implication here that even Robin, the supposed player self-insert, is strictly heterosexual and made uncomfortable by the idea of being in a relationship with another woman. Or take the Severa and Kjelle supports:
Severa: Itās one thing for a child to be a tomboy, Kjelle, but youāre a grown woman now! Augh! Now I can see your stomach! Really, have a little⦠Wow. Those are serious abs, Kjelle. I could do my laundry on them. No wonder you walk around with your shirt hanging offā¦Kjelle: Itās not āhanging off.ā I just untucked it! ā¦And why the sudden compliment anyway?Severa: Iā¦I donāt know! It just kind of popped out of my mouth.Kjelle: You donāt have the hots for me or something, do you?Severa: Hah! You couldnāt handle me for an hour, and you know it!Ā
Or Maribelle and Oliviaās supports:
Olivia: Hee hee! Besides, Iād rather hang out with you than some stuffy noble gentleman. So then, would YOU care to join me for tea, O fairest of nobles? Methinks heaven should count itās angels, for there is one standing in front of me! Those pantaloons must be made of mirrors, for I can see myseā
You can see yourself in them. You can say it, game. Donāt think this only applies to women thoughāsee Virion and Libraās support for an example.Ā
Virion:Ā (blushing, smiling) Hmm⦠From this angle, Libra looks quite different. Very manly, in fact. That big brow⦠Those massive knucklesā¦Libra: Sorry? Did you say something?Virion: Who, me? Oh, er, no. Nothing of import, my good man! Er, friend. Manā¦friend. *Ahem*Ā
Nothing important, of course. This is a sideshow to be dismissed and laughed at.Ā
Itās obvious they added such lines not to please LGBTQ fans (because then they would have added romance options at the end of these exchanges) but to please straight people who fetishize the idea of gay romance. This sort of takes down the explanation that IS didnāt want to upset anyone with gay content, tooāthe implications here would be obvious to anyone, even a homophobe who would be made viscerally upset by any reference to gay people.Ā
This isnāt even mentioning the DLC conversations which take the queerbaiting and ramp it up to 11ā thereās the time when Kjelle drinks a truth potion and starts groping Severa, calling her pretty, saying they should āforget about the boys,ā or the time Vaike runs around telling everyone Lonāqu is gay, in an oh-so-uncomfortable bit of dialogue (but he never says āgay,ā of course. You can never say āgay.ā) Ā
All the while, characters insist thereāsĀ ānothing wrong with that.ā Yet their actions donāt match their words.
LGBTQ+ people here arenāt brushed aside to reach a larger audience, theyāre used as a commodity to evoke laughs and please certain other demographics. Theyāre exploited and not given anything in return. Fire Emblem: Awakening was not made for LGBTQ+ people, which is part of why I work so hard to reclaim it. IS seems to think our existence is a joke, but itās not. And I donāt think we should take such a suggestion lying down.
Iām gonna reblog @unassumingvenusaurās post to add to the discourse for a second.
Iād also like to point out that FE has a history of brushing up against LGBTQIA+ themes in their games, at least as far as the NA translation is concerned. FE7 had implicit romantic intention between Heath and Legault (which was played for laughs), but also had an implied but seemingly genuine relationship option between Florina and Lyn. Sacred Stones had an implied connection between Eirika and Tana that went unstated, and most notably Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn actually had both Ike and Elincia, arguably the two main characters of the series (sans Micaiah and Sothe in RD) with this same kind of hinted same-sex relationships. If Iām not mistaken, Ike has no possible romantic ending with any woman on the team, but has one for Soren and one for Ranulf. Elincia also has an implicit bond with Lucia thatās said to runĀ ādeeper than the bond of milk sisters.ā
At one point in time I actually thought that Radiant Dawn was the start of a progressive shift in FEās trajectory, but Awakening was a step back. Donāt get me wrong, I love Awakening, but @unassumingvenusaur put it best in her post above. Iād argue that Fates went even further with its baiting, even though it includes canon same-sex options. Beyond the fact that the only two options are between a heavily suggestive and flirtatious man and a woman whoās trope is stalking the main character, we have someone like Soleil. Soleil is canonically bisexual, and has no same-sex romance options. So we get to see her flirt with girls as much as we like, but then at the end of the day, she marries a guy. It is kind of dismissive of LGBTQIA+ people that a part of their lives is played as a joke, and honestly one of the reasons Iām so committed to this hack is that it shows a truly positive part of the FE community, and showcases proper character depth. I strongly believe that an overwhelming majority of the supports written for this take the clear-cut personality traits of these characters and also goes into a serious exploration of them. We have people addressing Cordeliaās trauma over losing her squad mates while not letting go of her fastidious nature, or Laslow showcasing both his charm and flirtatious behavior, while also exploring the dark reality he had to face. I honestly believe this effort does more than just reclaim the game from a pretty dismal view of people like me (for example), it wholeheartedly improves the quality of it, and shows a genuine love of the characters spanning these two games.
This got a little rambly, but Iām in a mood. tl;dr though is that queerbaiting isnāt a new element in FE historically, and this hack is made out of genuine good.
Thank you very very much ^^

Benny for the kidnapping prompt, please!! If it's not too much to ask, maybe with a little extra angst? ;)
(Want to change the name? Use this!)
The band of royals burst into the fortress, leading an anxious group of soldiers with them. Among them was your husband, Benny, who gripped a razor sharp lance in one hand, and a bloody, crinkled ransom note in the other.
It had since been ripped in two, after Benny found it tacked on the war councilās tent that morning.
His gentle demeanor evaporated as he trailed your captors, sprinting as fast as his heart pounded in his chest. It took hours to find the fort just outside of Mokushu. As soon as they did, all your family was on the case.
But they were running out of time. They may have found the place you were held at, but how much longer did they have? According to the royals, not much.
