He gave her a nod, obediently following her into the caravan. She seemed so calm even thought he just had made her look like a fool in front of other noble vampires. Yet her smile remained. “That won’t happen again.” he promised her a last time before they would enter the carriage. Of course he wouldn’t have a seat before she allowed him to.

Of course he would become her perfect child, Vittel almost wanted to scoff at that. He would play perfect until she left her guard down, and then it was completely another story. With his head filled with escape plans, he almost couldn’t wait for his new life to begin. “Yes, mother…” he replied.

“Of course it won’t” she hummed with a smile on her lips. Once they were home, she would make sure to let him pay for it, maybe some time in the punishment room would do him some good, but not enough to really damage him. She had a need for him, after all.

She sat and did not give him any directions as to where to place himself, almost waiting for him to make a mistake. He would soon learn to be truly obedient to her, to serve her as best as he could and that it was an honour that Lady Maader herself would be drinking from him.

“Even if they don’t trust you anymore, you can always get new ones. There swim enough fish in the ocean, after all.” She chuckled. “What do you actually with those we defy you though?” She was very curious about that. Surely Maader wouldn’t just let them go, would she? Gyokuen did not think she would considering the woman’s malicious personality. If it were up to Gyokuen, she would let them try to leave without knowing how fierce her wraith could be when one opposed her with all their strength. Certainly she would give them a very nice punishment they won’t forget so easy.

“That is true indeed, if a child is too far gone and I run the risk of it giving the other kids thoughts in their silly little heads it has to go, it happens all the time, really. I have some older kids that I trust to an extend that dispose of those children for me. And well... I have this sweet little chamber, deep down in the basements, and it’s really wet in there, with like a foot of ice cold water on the bottom, and the water drips down the walls and from the ceiling. You’d be surprised what some time alone in that room, chained up, does to a kid’s mind. If you step in then and offer them a warm blanket and some tea or hot chocolate suddenly you are their hero and they do anything to please you, and if you threaten them with some more time in the punishment room they just about fall apart and rip themselves to pieces in an effort to please you and not get thrown in that room again. It’s still the most effective tool I’ve found so far.”

Gyokuen took a seat in one of the chairs Maader offered to her and listened with full ears to her friend’s story. When Maader was done with her story, Gyokuen clapped her hands together. “My, my, you do have a fascinating way to manipulate the poor souls.” A melodic laugh exited her parted carmine lips. “What you just told me proves how gullible children really are. Once you give them what they beg for, they’ll follow you without hesitation. Children are so small-minded that they don’t notice they are only getting used by the one they believe cares for them when in reality they are not.”

“Well, it does work very well indeed” Maader chuckled, giving her friend a bright smile. “I never had thought I could make a living out of that, and here I am, doing exactly that, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else really” She nodded along with her and hummed. “Indeed, once you have them believe that you care for them they will follow you no matter how twisted your methods were. The only thing you can’t do is break that imagination. Once you let them see you really don’t care they won’t trust you anymore. I made that mistake a few times in the beginning, by now I know better. Build up the illusion, even with torture and manipulation, and as long as you keep it up the children will do whatever I ask of them.”

He knew that crying would do him no good, but he simply couldn’t control it. He was utterly terrified, and completely helpless too. The strange thing was that he could no longer tell whether he feared her touch or craved it. He leaned into her hand as she stroked his hair, somehow feeling soothed by the gesture. Even though he knew he shouldn’t. She was the one who had done all this to him, after all.

“I’m s-sorry f-for crying, M-Mother. It’s just all a l-little overwhelming. A-and a lot… a l-lot to get used to.”

He forced some semblance of a smile, facing the direction where he assumed she was.

“I… H-how can I do chores l-like this, M-Mother?”

“Shhh, it’s okay, dearest, Mother will take care of you now” she hummed and gently embraced the boy, stroking over his hair with one hand. It was nice like this, loose falling down over his shoulders. “You’ll get used to it, Mother will help you with that~”

she smiled a little and caressed his cheek with a single finger. “Special children don’t need to do chores anymore, my dearest. Special children may be in Mother’s presence most of the time and show how good they are at being good children and pleasing Mother.”

When she stepped more in the room, Gyokuen turned the door behind her close as she turned to her beloved friend. She placed her sleeves before her carmine lips. “Oh my, my deepest apologies for all of the troublesome movements but don’t worry, dear, we’ll be at my precious empire soon.”

“There’s something I’m wondering though.” She removed her sleeves from her face, revealing a smile plastered on her visage. “How did you actually manage to gather so many children? I’m rather surprised they’re so obedient but I suppose you train them very well.”

Maader chuckled and shrugged a little, then offered the Empress one of the chairs in the small room. “Well... I started out pretty small, with just a few children I picked up randomly from the streets, because they were endlessly begging me for some food or coin, and when I gave in and gave them some they were so... so grateful, and so willing to do anything in return. So I took them in and made them work to repay what kindness I was showing them, and reminded them to always be grateful and happy that they had a place on my side. It worked so perfectly well... and then one day someone expressed interest in one of them, and I told the girl to be as good for the guy as for me because I’d like it, and the silly thing went along all obediently, and I got a good amount of money for her. And then... I started getting bigger, sending my children out to collect more kids from the street, and I started buying slave children to retrain them to my standards and sell them again for more money... and well, the more money, the more children I can afford to feed and keep with me to sell them. Though I have to admit that there are a select few children that I will not sale, that will be with me until I tire of them...”

Vittel was relaxed as they approached the carriage. It was refreshing to get away from all the vampires and their hungry eyes lusting after blood. He followed her obediently, still nodding confidently at her compliment until his smile vanished.

The fact that she held his chin up, forcing him to look at her. Even though she didn’t seem to look angry, he could tell he made a mistake. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to make fun off you. That was really not my intention… I’m terribly sorry, my lady.” he was quick to try and fix what he messed up. Not only had he made fun of her, but done so in front of a few other vampires. He had only been her slave for minutes and messed it up big…

Maader smiled down at her new child, the way she smiled to let the children know that they were in trouble. “Yes, my dear, Mother will teach you to be a perfect child for her” she hummed and carressed the human’s cheek. She would break him soon enough and make him her sweet and good child. He would soon get to know what an honour it was to be allowed to serve her, to live only to please her.

“Come now, Mother will take you home, dear, show you your new life” she hummed and tugged on his leash to make him walk with her again. “You’ll see just how good you’ll have it with mother~”

“E-eh? Close my eyes…? A-alright..”

He didn’t like where this was going. Especially as he did as she asked, and felt the fabric rest over his eyes. Already feeling a bit panicked, he opened his eyes, only to find himself in complete darkness. Of course he could always untie it, but… She was right beside him, she could punish him for even trying.

Still, he couldn’t help the tears that welled up in his eyes, and the few that managed to slip under the blindfold and down his cheeks. This was terrifying. He was completely helpless now.

“Th-thank you, M-Mother. It… it’s an honour…”

What was he going to do now? Allow her to lead him around like a frightened puppy? There didn’t really seem to be many alternatives..

“Sweetheart, there is no reason to cry, Mother will take care of you now~” she cooed and wiped away the tears that escaped the blindfold. “Mother will lead you now, you don’t have to be afraid. Mother will be there for you and lead you through the darkness of your life, Mother is all that you need” she hummed and wrapped him up in her arms, brushing over his hair.

“It is, isn’t it? Few children are given this trust, and the privilege to be close to me all the time. You are a very lucky boy, Seishun, my dear.”

Satisfied with her guest’s response, Gyokuen closed the door behind her, leaving Maader some little time for herself. This was sure going to be a long journey and she needed Maader to have plenty of rest because when they arrive at the Kou Empire, there were a lot of things needed to be done. Hopefully they would find no obstacles along the way as it might just delay their arrival to Kou otherwise and Gyokuen wanted to be at the palace as soon as possible. .

A few hours passed by and the witch decided to leave her duties for awhile and see how Maader was doing all this time. Once again she entered Maader’s quarters and saw her new devious friend sitting on the chair. “So, has things been well for you, dear~?”

Maader stayed in her room after Gyokuen left, having nothing else to do. And if she were to leave her room and walk around she would probably just get aggravated by some of those servants or the movement of the ship beneath her feet or something like that, so she stayed put and just read one of the books she had taken along for the journey.

As her new friend came to check up on her again she smiled and stood from her bed. “Oh, good, my dear, good indeed~ I’m not sure if I’m too fond of all the movement the ship makes but well, that’s what comes with going on a boat, right?”

Vittel was feeling proud of himself, so far he still had not messed up with anything yet. His new mistress seemed rather fond of him, he was obedient and did whatever she told him to. If he could keep his facade, there would be no reason for her to suspect anything… “Yes… you’re the very first.” he assured her, swallowing a lump in his throat.

The touch on his bare neck, reminded Vittel that soon he would be dried out from all the blood. How long would it take for her to devour all of it, he didn’t know. Perhaps a few days only. Those vampires didn’t have any self control, not those he had seen at least. If she was different, he could consider himself lucky…

“That would make me feel very lucky, spending so much time with you…. and getting to know my mother better.” He couldn’t help, but let a little nervous laugh escape through his lips. But he was quick to swallow it back and feign it has a mere cough attack. “I’m sorry, for saying something inappropriate…”

Such a sweet plaything she had found herself here, so obedient and childish. As if she would not hurt him if he just followed along and never acted up. She didn’t even think there was a possibility for him to not mess up. She would not allow that. Soon enough he would find himself put in front of a choice where there was no right way for him to choose. Oh, it would be fun to see him try to deal with that~

She wondered how he would react when he realised what exactly being her special child meant... but he would only get to know about that when it was time, of course. “Such a sweet boy you are” she hummed and ruffled over his hair as she lead him away and towards her carriage. She chuckled a little then and grabbed his chin, making him look at her. “What is there to laugh about, hm? Do you think it is acceptable to make fun of your Mother?” she asked with a raised eyebrow. Oh, she would teach him better than to laugh at her. In public at that.

She giggled, like a little schoolgirl. “I sure hope so.” She replied curtly. “Though I’m glad you like your temporary residence. It’s not much but it’ll do for now. But this is nothing compared to the room I’ve arranged for you, so do look forward to that.”

“Unfortunately, I have to take my leave now as there’s some business that require my attention.” Before she left, she stopped at the door, turning her head to the side. “And if there’s anything you need, don’t hesitate to ask one of my servants. They’re quite obedient fellows so they’ll do as you say~” And with that, she left.

“Oh well, I can’t expect too much of a ship, now can I?” she chuckled. “It certainly is a lot more comfortable than I would allow my beloved children to be during a ship journey~” Well, that was because her children were her slaves and she did not care to grant them any comfort anyway. No way they would ever get something nice like this.

“Of course, I know you have your things to tend to. I will get along just fine, and look forward to seeing your wonderful little empire~” she hummed and got comfortable on the chair in the tiny room. “I’ll make sure to seek out one of the servants should I need anything, dear~”
