Nothing beats the friends I've made through twitch/discord/etc. That's why I am a vtuber in the first place! I'm not here to play a popularity game, just to have a fun time and meet new people.

I feel like this is in response to some kind of drama that went down when I wasn’t looking though, huh? 😅

Admittedly, it feels weird when someone seems to act as or present as (and never corrects it) a different cultural group when they aren’t… but other than that no? I mean I look like mine in some ways and really don’t in others.

ok here is an interesting point

aspects of a design that reference another culture isn’t a bad thing, generally (in my opinion). for example if you love japanese robot anime i don’t think there is any problem using that as inspiration

the issue comes when you take so much inspiration from another culture that your character presents as an individual from that background, when you in fact are not.

this isn’t bad because you’re not from there (nessesarily). it can be a problem because you don’t have the necessary context and understanding to represent those people and their heritage (for example having a maori face tattoo when you are not maori is problematic for non-obvious reasons)

but that’s a different conversation then simply “you are not a 3 foot tall fairy with wings irl? how very dare you” lmao

For context, a recent YouTube video has been circulating claiming vtubers are catfishing people by not presenting as what they look like IRL.

I currently stream on twitch.tv/mothrika! Originally I planned on using youtube, but most of my mutuals are on twitch, so it just made things simpler to stick to that instead.

I would like to propose that all of us vtubers moving over here need to find a tag that isn’t just “vtuber” or “indie vtuber” bc those tags are flooded with fanart of all the big guys.

“envtuber” and “vtuber uprising” both seem to be better for just posts by vtubers… and the latter would be an easy pick for twitter migrators. I feel like I’m leaning towards those as my pick, but I’d happily entertain other options.
