The first ever WRC-spec Subaru Impreza, built by Prodrive in 1997, has been consigned to H&H’s next auction at the Imperial War Museum on 14 October. Do rally cars get any more iconic that a bright blue Subaru Impreza with the names McRae and Grist on the side? Perhaps, but few would disagree with the importance of such a machine. An estimate of £175,000-200,000 has been put on this piece of modern rallying history.

Ferrari Dino Regarded by most as the most attractive of Ferrari road cars, the Dino was never intended to be a Ferrari at all. Enzo Ferrari had long called V6 race engines Dino in memory of his only son, who died during the 1950's. The first appearance of the name came with the 246 Grand Prix car of the 1957 season. Racing then as an FII car, this had a new V6 engine, apparently designed by Dino Ferrari on his death bed. This car progressed to full World Championship status for 1958 and delivered Mike Hawthorn his Championship, with only two wins for the car but, by dint of its superb reliability, a string of second places that allowed Mike to outstrip Stirling Moss. During the 1960's, Ferrari began producing smaller capacity sports racing cars and labelled them as 'Dino'. This went so far as being homologated and entered as a separate entity to the main Ferrari Factory cars at events such as Le Mans. By the end of the 1960's Ferrari was ready to go into production with a new, mid engined two seater coupe, to be called simply 'Dino'. It is assumed that the threat of the rear engined 911 Porsche was being taken seriously at Maranello and the Dino was the result. The Dino found its self being used as a rally car and race car, the pinnacle coming, arguably, with a NART (North American Racing Team) entry for the 1972 Le Mans race. The car ran steadily to a decent 17th place overall finish. A great achievement for what was, essentially, a stock motor car.
