Going to this event was like any other event hosted by the town of Stowe – boring and yet somehow he was always dragged to them. Though admittedly it was hard to resist the cute smile and seductive eyes of his girlfriend, who was currently standing in their kitchen, doing some last finishing touches to the basket of hers that he’d end up bidding on. If only she would just agree on them going out to eat for lunch instead. “You sure we have to go to this? That basket could be left here and we can go … anywhere else.”

Kassandra rolled her eyes when Miles tried, yet again, to change her mind. “Yes I’m sure, my name was drawn, and I think it’s a cute tradition.” When the basket was ready, she moved to stand in front of him, prepared to play a little dirty. “Look, I worked really hard to put all your favorites together, but if you’d rather not go, either because my cooking sucks, or because you hate town events, then just say so. I mean it’s not like someone else couldn’t just as easily buy the damn thing, right? That way you can stay home and eat whatever you want, while someone else suffers my cooking.”

“Are you sure this basket isn’t too much?” He never once thought he’d have to make a basket in his life. Granted the rules had changed recently but he always opted out of the event, donating a reasonable amount to keep the Stoweys happy, and making it out with maybe bidding on one or two – just to participate. Now here he was, freaking out over the fact that he had to convince his assistant and long time friend to help him create something decent. He ended up with a basket full of basic picnic goodies such as cheese, crackers, grapes and even two bottles of wine (which he thought to be a bit much). As he held the basket, he kept glancing down at it and then back at Maggie, uncertain. “What if a kid bids on it?”

Maggie loved her friend, but sometimes she wanted to hit him. Like now, when he was being over dramatic about the basket auction of all things. “It’s a charcuterie board, Kyle, not a five course Michelin meal. Don’t get me wrong, we worked hard, and it’s very nice, but it’s not over-the-top.” She wasn’t going to lie, and say she hadn’t been worried the first time her name had been drawn. However, back then she still had two children under eighteen, and couldn’t be bothered to do more than basically throw together a large sack lunch. Now that it was Kyle’s turn though, well she’d decided to help him out, because she wanted his first auction experience to go better than her own. His newest concern was valid though, and she thought on it for a moment before answering. “Considering you’d arrest them for underage drinking on the spot, I doubt anyone would be that stupid. I’ll make you a deal though, alright? If you’re that worried about who might get your basket, you give me a signal, and I’ll buy it. That way, we’ve both done our civic duty, and neither of us has to sit through an awkward lunch with someone we don’t particularly care for. That work for you?”

Born and raised in Upstate New York, Margaret Redding was the only girl in a litter of boys. Not only that, but she came from a long line of law enforcement, and her brothers all followed in those footsteps. Not Maggie though, oh no, she didn’t want to be a cop, or go into the military, but she knew she had to do something to appease her father; especially after getting knocked up at seventeen by someone older. So she decided to study Criminal Justice Law Enforcement Administration, knowing full well she wouldn’t be “allowed” to work right away.

Maggie met Scott Mckee while still in high school, and though he meant a lot to her at the time, he definitely wasn’t the kind of person she imagined herself ending up with. However when she got pregnant, and their families insisted they get married, she put that aside and dove head first into life as a full time college student and mother. Having been informed from the get-go that she’d stay at home when she graduated, she quickly grew to resent not only their parents, but her husband as well. So she stayed home with their daughter Peyton, who had gone deaf in her first year of life, and prepared for the new little bundle of joy on his way.

Six years into their marriage, Scott was transferred to Stowe, Vermont, and so they picked up and moved. The first thing Maggie set out to do once they were settled, was get a job. With both their children in school and all day care, she knew she’d have a big enough block of time. It’s not hard to believe that once completely on their own, the McKee’s began drifting apart, and within a year, were officially separated. With both she and her husband working, and their children settling into life in Stowe, their divorce became a back burner issue for a while. By the time things were made official, Peyton was a thriving eight year old, Shiloh A joyous four year old, and Maggie was loving life across the board. She now has full custody of both kids, because while Scott loves his children, he’s never been very paternal, and only visits on weekends or the occasional holiday.

At the young age of two years old, Kassandra was adopted by Edith & Dottie Ryder, thus giving her not only two amazing mothers, but also a loving older brother, Dawson. At the start she was admittedly attached to her new sibling, following him around and bugging his friends, but he didn’t seem to mind until he reached puberty, and suddenly she wasn’t much more than his annoying younger sister. However as a whole, her family was loving and supportive while she was growing up; that is until she started to rebel and they got a little worried. Around sixteen, she went from being a shy and reserved little girl to a more outspoken and obnoxious teenager, citing Athens’ lack of things to do as her reason; and that’s when she decided she’d be going to New York for college.

It was assumed that Kassandra was drawn to New York because she wanted to find her birth parents, but that was not in fact the case; biology meant nothing to her, because it had meant nothing to them. No, all she wanted was to explore and become part of some place, some thing, bigger than what she’d known for so much of her life. Turns out she was destined to fall in love with New York City and everything she had to offer. While at NYU she studied Early Childhood Education, met her best friend, and began establishing a relationship of her own with one Miles Parker; aka her brother’s annoying best friend while they were growing up, but as it turns out, also the love of her life.

Once she’d gotten her Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education, Kassandra returned home to live in Athens, though she was taking any and all chances to road trip to New York City, and started teaching. Teaching didn’t last long though, as her dream was to open a Daycare and Preschool, surrounding herself with, and helping to nurture, the children she’d learned she could never have herself. With the help of her family, she got together enough money to secure a building, and from there it took about a year to get the business ready to open. For the past five years, Little Rascals has been her life, and she wouldn’t have it any other way, but she can honestly say she doesn’t regret wanting to move on; at least for now.

After a vacation with her partner, Kassandra up and decided she wanted to move to Stowe, Vermont. Before their trip she’d never even heard of it, but there was something about it that drew her in, and Miles was immediately receptive. After finding the perfect place to live and packing up their lives, they moved, and now she’s got to adjust to a whole new life away from her family, but closer to their beloved New York City. It’ll take some getting used to, but she can’t deny that she’s excited to explore another new place and get to know another new side of herself; as well as grow in her relationship with Miles.

The sun had long been replaced by the moon and still, the festivities continued to rage on; young children, teens, and adults alike making the most of their time. Maggie would have also been part of the crowd, indulging in all the fair had to offer, but with her brother and niece having head home, leaving her with no company, she found herself gravitating towards the bar. It seemed the only appropriate way to end the night; a drink or two before she turned in, herself.  

Feet aching from all the walking around (not to mention the ridiculous boots she had chosen to wear), Maggie had slumped herself down by the bar, flagging down the bartender before she even had the chance to get comfortable in her seat. “An Old Fashioned, please,” She requested, “And…” Eyes flickered over to the person closest to her, “Whatever they’re having.” 

Kyler had stayed at the fair pretty much all day, but she wanted to close her night out in the bar itself, so she’d taken off about an hour before. She’d come back to find a diva client trying to harass one of her bartenders, and she almost kicked them out, but they had money to burn, and she always enjoyed making money of other people’s stupidity. So she’d made what they asked for; mostly. Was it her fault that her bar didn’t carry every single thing the recipe called for? She was sure it tasted awful, but luckily the customer had been too embarrassed to kick up another fuss, so they were just nursing it while sulking.

When Margot came in asking for something straight forward, she could’ve almost kissed her. "You got it, Mags.” However Ky scoffed, and shook her head at the secondary request. “Absolutely not, that crazy decided to bring in some specialty order and demand we make it like this is a Starbucks. I’d almost rather give you gasoline instead of whatever the hell that mixture of things is. How about a Margarita instead?"

“You might be wondering how I got here,” Matt laughed, resting his hands on the wood table before him. “A kissing booth and all.” Rolling his eyes, he pointed to the sign hanging on the front of the table. “All proceeds go to a charity of your choice.” Pausing, Matt let his arms cross against his chest. A mild smile rested on his lips as he stood there for another long second. “Five bucks a pop. I’m a sucker for a cause.”

Lydia cocked an eyebrow as she nodded. "I actually was kind of, yeah.” She squinted slightly as he stated the obvious, but listened as he gave further explanation. “Ah, okay.” It seemed impossible to her, that the system of stranger after stranger, handing over money and stating a cause, could possibly work; how could you be sure person’s money went were it was supposed to? However she was trying to rediscover her faith in humanity, so she was choosing to accept it at face value. “I will give you ten dollars, and a kiss on the cheek. Nothing personal or anything, I just don’t make a habit of kissing total strangers.”

Grabbing a burger from Betty’s he had found his way over to the picnic tables. Two people were there before for about fifteen minutes before they left and he was left sitting alone. Not that he minded, he was just content with watching people play music. He’d visited everything there was it seemed and was now just relaxing. “Hey, how’s your day going far?” He asked someone near, making friendly conversation. 

Trick was enjoying his first ever Indigo Springs event, trying to checking out all of the booths, to support every small business and cause that he could. However as someone who was always on call, he was grateful it lasted for several days, so the he could really try and give everything equal time. Sitting down at an empty table with a fresh haul of new food, he was about to dig in when he heard the younger man’s question. Smiling, he gave a nod. “It’s going pretty well, thanks, and how’s yours?”

Eden’s eyes slowly scanned the fair and adjusted the cowboy hat she’d found at some thrift store earlier that day. She wasn’t even trying at this point, mostly using the event as an excuse to drink like a fish and ride the Ferris wheel. And maybe if she was lucky she could find a group of teens and confiscate their weed. She pulled a cig from behind her ear, placed it between her lips and stuffed her hands in her pockets in search for a lighter. It only took a few seconds and a handful of huffs before she realized she’d left hers at home 

“Hey!” Eden called out, pointing to the nearest person in front of her, “Hey, you got a light? I uh…I can’t seem to find mine. Or shit…maybe I dropped it…” She mumbled mostly to herself as she stepped closer her eyes mostly searching the ground for the possibly dropped lighter. “Also think you could point me to the nearest drinking booth or bar around here?” 

Maggie rarely smoked anymore, ever since Peyton had asked her to quit, she’d kept to times of very high stress, but had almost always been prepared to be asked for a light. It had started as a book of matches in her wallet, before graduating to lighters in every room, every bag, and every jacket; all just in case. Now there was only one in her car with the emergency pack of cigarettes locked in her glove compartment. So, when someone shouted and asked for a light, her initial reaction had been to start nodding yes, before switching to a negative shake; but trust her kid to remember the book of matches. “I don’t know about a dropped lighter, I haven’t seen one, but I’ve got some matches you can have. As for a drinking booth, The Secret Saloon has one just down the next row, shouldn’t be too hard to find.”

Maggie nodded as she listened the to other woman’s explanation, and reciprocated her smile. “Sounds awesome, and there’s like a question I’m supposed to be thinking of, right? Or like, something I’m supposed to be putting out into the universe so it can kind of channel an answer into the cards?” She didn’t know much about tarot, but the idea certainly intrigued her, and Peyton had wanted to try it, but convinced her to go first.

It was a balmy 75 degrees out in Indigo Springs Recreational Park, the perfect weather for hiking, birdwatching, or just enjoying a pleasant March day. However, more foot traffic meant more garbage littered along the trails. Dave was walking along the paths with a bag in hand, leaning down to pick up various discarded bottles and wrappers. He never understood how people could be so careless, but this is what they hired him for. Keeping the park clean and safe.

As he was leaning up with a cigarette butt in hand, he was met face to face with the panting maw of a canine. The sudden appearance had him gasping and stumbling back, until he realized…he’d seen this dog before. “Oh…hey buddy,” he said, stepping forward to pat the dogs head. “Where…where’s Fitzpatrick?”

Trick loved spending a day wandering aimlessly with his animals when the weather was perfect. Not to mention the fact, that when they were having a particularly good day, he could let them off leash, and they’d never go more than a couple of feet in any direction. Except apparently today was different, because one minute Mischief was within his eyeline, and the next he was gone. Groaning in frustration, he started calling out in the hopes that the dog would return, but then Murphy seemed insistent that they go a certain way, and he got the feeling that he didn’t have a choice.

When they rounded and a bend and Trick caught sight of Dave, he knew things were okay. Even if Mischief hadn’t found one of his favorite people, he knew that the Ranger would’ve helped him look; luckily that wouldn’t be necessary today. As he caught up to them, Murphy forged ahead to rub against the other man’s leg, and he chuckled. “Right here, he just decided it would be fun to scare me.” Bending down, he reattached the dog’s leash to his harness. “No more taking off for you today.” He beckoned the cat and did the same to him, before looking back up at Dave. “How are you today, Ranger Collins? Keeping cool out here?”

she felt like she looked like she was fresh out of an old timey western, but she knew that she was just in little ole indigo springs. so far, she’d spent most of her time split between visiting presley at her booth and visiting the flowers bloom & bud’s booth. she stood next to raven star’s booth as if she worked there.

lydia honestly wasn’t a big believer in much these days, not since her parents’ accident, but she was trying. she figured it couldn’t hurt to start with something relatively harmless, and crystals were her first attempt. when the girl spoke, she chuckled softly, embarrassed that she was so clearly lost in her element. ❝‌  that’s alright, i was actually just trying to figure out if this matches the picture i’d found online; what do you think? ‌❞
